If your original Elgato Key Light won’t pair with Matter, the first thing to know is that Elgato’s documented setup for this light is through Elgato Control Center over Wi‑Fi—not native Matter commissioning. If Control Center cannot find the light, troubleshoot its Wi‑Fi and local-network discovery. If you are scanning a Matter code in Apple Home, the issue is that the official setup material reviewed does not document native Matter support for the original Key Light.
Can I add an Elgato Key Light to Apple Home or Matter?
Apple Home supports Matter lights generally, but that does not make every light a Matter accessory. Elgato’s Key Light setup guide describes adding and controlling the original Key Light with Elgato Control Center over Wi‑Fi. The official materials reviewed do not document native Matter commissioning for this model, so scanning for a Matter accessory in Apple Home is not the documented setup route.
For Elgato control, use Control Center’s add-accessory flow. For Apple Home or another Matter ecosystem, a third-party bridge is a separate, more technical possibility—not a native Elgato setup path.
Fix a Key Light that Control Center cannot find
1. Use a compatible 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network
Elgato specifies 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n Wi‑Fi and WPA- or WPA2-compatible encryption for Key Light. Its compatibility guidance lists 5 GHz, 802.11 AC/AD/AX, WEP, and WPA2-Enterprise as incompatible. See Elgato’s compatible network types.

If your router uses one network name for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and pairing fails, temporarily give the bands separate names, then connect the light to the dedicated 2.4 GHz network. Elgato recommends this approach in its band-steering guidance.
2. Reset the light and pair again
A reset erases the stored Wi‑Fi credentials, so you will need to add the light again in Control Center. Elgato’s quick-start instructions are:

- Power off the Key Light.
- Hold the reset control in position II for at least 10 seconds, until the light flashes three times.
- Wait, then power the light back on.
- Open Elgato Control Center and retry its add-accessory flow.

3. Check Bonjour and multicast discovery
Control Center finds Key Light through Bonjour/multicast discovery on the local network. A light can be powered on and connected to Wi‑Fi yet remain invisible if the router or access point blocks that traffic. Check these settings:

- Allow Bonjour or mDNS and multicast traffic on the local network. Elgato identifies
_elg._tcpas the mDNS service string used by lighting products including Key Light. - Check IGMP Snooping and broadcast or multicast filtering; disable filtering if it is preventing discovery.
- Review firewall rules that could block local discovery.
- Make sure the computer or phone and the light are on the same local network, not separated by guest-network isolation or another router path.
Elgato’s “Key Light – Not found by Control Center” troubleshooting page also recommends restarting the computer or phone and router. Initial setup requires a Wi‑Fi adapter capable of 2.4 GHz.
Use a third-party bridge only if you need Matter integration
The open-source matterbridge-elgato project describes a self-hosted way to expose certain Elgato lights to Matter ecosystems. It is not Elgato-supported native Matter commissioning. Before trying it, check the project’s current documentation for the exact Key Light model supported and its requirements; support should not be assumed for every Elgato light.

When to consider replacing the light
Do not treat a failed Matter scan as proof the hardware is faulty: the original Key Light’s documented setup is Control Center Wi‑Fi pairing. If it still cannot connect after a reset on a compatible network and you have checked local discovery, hardware failure becomes more plausible. Elgato identifies Key Light as an LED panel on its product page; consider a replacement only after those network and reset checks.
