Inspect the visual differences and confirm the run is using the intended baseline before changing anything. If the differences are part of the redesign, accept them and save the updated baseline; if they are unexpected, reject them and investigate the application while keeping the existing baseline.
What an Eyes baseline mismatch means
Applitools Eyes compares a captured UI checkpoint with a stored baseline image for that test and environment. A mismatch is a signal to review what changed, not proof that the redesign is wrong. Applitools describes visual testing as checking that previously correct screens have not changed unexpectedly (Overview of Visual UI Testing).
The particular cause cannot be determined from the mismatch alone. Inspect the baseline and checkpoint images alongside the run configuration and result before deciding what to do.
Review the mismatch without losing the old baseline
- Open the failed result and inspect the comparison. Review the checkpoint, baseline, and highlighted visual differences. Do not accept the result merely to clear a failure.
- Verify baseline identity. Check the application name, test name, operating system, browser, and viewport size. Eyes uses these parameters to identify baselines; a changed value can put a run on a different baseline than the one you expected. See Applitools’ baseline parameters documentation.
- Check the match level. Strict is the documented default. It detects visible changes to text, font, color, graphics, and element position while aiming to ignore rendering differences from platform-dependent software and hardware. Choose a match level based on the changes the test should detect; loosening it indiscriminately can hide real regressions. See Match Level.
- Classify the differences. Decide whether each visual change is an intended result of the redesign or an unexpected change that needs investigation.
- Save the appropriate decision. Accept and save an intentional change to update the baseline used for future comparisons. Reject an unexpected change to retain the existing reference while you investigate or fix the application. The Dashboard supports reviewing and saving baseline decisions; consult Applitools’ accept/reject guidance.
Resolve changes in the Dashboard or Playwright report
Eyes Dashboard
Use the Dashboard’s result review to inspect the visual comparison, then accept or reject the changes and save the decision. Confirm you are viewing the intended run and baseline before saving.

Playwright enhanced HTML report
For Playwright, Applitools documents an enhanced HTML report that supports resolving changes. Accepting or rejecting from that report requires authentication. See the Playwright enhanced HTML reports documentation.
Common causes and what to check
- The run appears to compare against the wrong reference: compare application and test names, OS, browser, and viewport with the run you intended to review.
- The redesign is intentional but the result remains failing: inspect the changed areas, then accept and save the intended baseline update.
- A difference was accepted too early: review the current comparison carefully before making another baseline decision. Accepting updates the future reference; rejecting preserves the existing baseline.
- Only platform-dependent rendering differences appear: verify the match level and whether the test should treat those visible differences as meaningful. Do not change the setting as a blanket workaround.
- The report does not allow a decision: authenticate when using the Playwright enhanced HTML report, or use the Dashboard review workflow.

If you need a clean screenshot to inspect a redesigned page outside the Eyes comparison workflow, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF; this cURL example saves a WebP screenshot of the target page. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
