If your YouTube Live broadcast stops when a prerecorded playlist reaches its end, fix the repeat setting in the source that OBS is sending: enable Loop for a single file in a Media Source, or Loop Playlist for several files in a VLC Video source. YouTube’s playlist loop control affects playback for viewers; it does not restart the media source feeding your live broadcast.
First, identify which playlist is stopping
There are two different situations that can sound like a “YouTube Live loop” problem:
- You are watching a YouTube playlist: use YouTube’s viewer-side playlist Loop control. YouTube Help provides instructions for desktop, Android, and TV or console playback: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
- Your channel is broadcasting prerecorded files through OBS: enable looping in the OBS source that plays those files. This is the setting that keeps the live video program repeating.
Make a single video loop in OBS
- In OBS, locate the Media Source that contains the video.
- Open that source’s properties.
- Enable Loop, then confirm the setting.
- Check that the video returns to its beginning when playback reaches the end.
OBS describes Media Source’s Loop option as replaying the file when playback completes. The source settings are documented in the OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.
Loop a playlist of several videos in OBS
- Use a VLC Video source for the files you want to play in sequence.
- Open the VLC Video source properties and add or confirm the playlist files.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS describes this option as restarting the source after it runs out of media files.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off if the videos must play in a particular order.
- If the VLC Video source is unavailable or does not work, install VLC. OBS specifies 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS.
These controls are source-side settings, not YouTube watch-page settings. See the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation for the source options and VLC dependency.

If the YouTube event still ends, check the broadcast chain
A looping source, OBS’s encoder output, and the YouTube broadcast event are separate parts of the chain. Check them in that order so you can identify what actually stopped.
- Confirm the source is still playing. Watch the OBS preview when the playlist reaches its end. If the picture stops or goes blank, revisit the source type and its loop setting.
- Confirm OBS is still sending. Check OBS’s connection and streaming status. A source can be configured to loop while the encoder output has stopped or disconnected.
- Review the YouTube broadcast’s auto-stop setting. A broadcast may end after encoder transmission stops, but the exact behavior and timing are not established here. Treat auto-stop as a possible downstream cause, not the explanation for every ended event.
A current iTechGuides troubleshooting article describes the possible sequence of a playlist ending, OBS output stopping, and YouTube auto-stop ending the event. Use it as a diagnostic possibility; the direct fix for an OBS playlist that runs out is to configure the source to repeat.

Which loop control applies?

Google’s YouTube IFrame Player API Reference states: “The default behavior is that playlists do not loop.” That statement applies to playlist playback in the embedded player; it does not describe OBS media-source behavior.
