If your Logitech G29 is not detected or repeatedly disconnects, start with the physical connection rather than the game: connect the power adapter directly to a working outlet, connect the wheel directly to the PC or console USB port, and set the platform switch correctly. On Windows, confirm detection in Logitech G HUB and then test the wheel in the native Controller panel. Those checks separate a power, cable, USB, or mode problem from a game configuration problem.

The G29 should rotate fully left and right and return to center during startup calibration. If it never calibrates and is absent from both G HUB and the operating-system controller panel after direct-connection tests, a failed power path, cable, USB interface, or wheel base is more likely than a setting inside a game.

Identify where detection fails

The stage at which the wheel disappears determines the next useful action. Do not begin by changing force-feedback settings if the wheel has no power or is not visible to Windows; those settings cannot repair a missing USB device.

The wheel works briefly, then vanishes Repeat the direct USB and alternate-port tests. If another port works, Logitech recommends updating the motherboard USB chipset driver.

Check compatibility and the platform switch

The G29 is a powered USB racing wheel for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Windows. Logitech lists a USB port, Logitech G HUB at release, Windows 10 or Windows 11, and a game that supports Logitech force feedback among the requirements. A game can therefore fail to provide wheel input even when the hardware and operating system are working normally.

Use the correct switch position

Set the physical platform switch before connecting the USB cable:

  • PS3: use PS3 mode on a PlayStation 3.
  • PS4: use PS4 mode on a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5.
  • Windows PC: use PS4 mode.

After changing the switch, disconnect and reconnect USB so the host enumerates the wheel in the new mode. Logitech states that PC users need Logitech Gaming Software 8.70 or later for full functionality. On a Windows system that uses G HUB, still perform the G HUB and native Controller checks below; the point of the mode setting is to make the device present itself correctly to the host.

Fix the physical connection first

1. Reseat power

  1. Turn the wheel off or disconnect it from the console or PC.
  2. Unplug the AC connector from the rear of the wheel base.
  3. Connect the power adapter firmly to the base, then plug it directly into a known-working wall outlet.
  4. Do not use a switched-off power strip while diagnosing the problem.

Logitech’s pedal-troubleshooting guidance puts this check first: “Confirm that the wheel unit is properly connected to power.” A USB connection alone does not replace the wheel’s external power requirement.

2. Remove every USB intermediary

  1. Disconnect the G29 USB plug from any hub, extension cable, KVM, monitor port, or USB switch.
  2. Plug it directly into a USB port on the computer or console.
  3. If it is still missing, shut down the host, move the plug to a different USB port, and test again.
  4. On a desktop, test a port directly on the motherboard rather than a front-panel hub when possible.

Logitech’s wired-device guidance specifically recommends trying another USB port. If a different port works, update the motherboard USB chipset driver before assuming the wheel is defective. A direct connection is essential for diagnosis because an intermediate device can introduce power, compatibility, or enumeration failures that look like a wheel fault.

Watch the startup calibration

With power and USB connected, the wheel should rotate fully to one side, fully to the other, and return to center. This movement is the startup calibration described in Logitech’s pedal-connection procedure.

If calibration does not happen

  • Confirm the AC connector is fully seated at the base and the adapter is connected directly to a working outlet.
  • Confirm that the USB plug is directly connected to the host and that the platform switch is in the correct position.
  • Try a second USB port and, if available, another compatible computer or console.
  • Do not start with in-game sensitivity or force-feedback settings; the wheel must enumerate and calibrate before those settings matter.

A wheel that remains completely still after these checks has not established a normal startup state. If it also fails to appear in the host’s device software, continue through the Windows or console checks below before concluding that the base has failed.

Verify detection in Windows before opening a game

3. Check Logitech G HUB

  1. Connect the powered G29 directly to the PC with the switch set to PS4 mode.
  2. Open Logitech G HUB.
  3. Look for the G29 on the device screen and operate the wheel, pedals, and buttons.
  4. Note whether G HUB sees the device continuously or whether it disappears when the cable is moved or the wheel is used.

Logitech’s connection-issues guidance places the G HUB check before its advanced registry procedure. If G HUB does not list the wheel at all, stay with power, switch, and USB isolation rather than changing a game profile. If G HUB lists it and shows input, the USB device is communicating and the next check is the Windows Controller panel.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

4. Test the native Windows Controller panel

  1. Open the Windows search box and enter Set up USB game controllers.
  2. Open the Controller panel result.
  3. Select the G29 and choose its properties or test option.
  4. Move the wheel, press each button, and operate both pedals. Watch the axes and button indicators.

This test is independent of an individual game. A wheel that responds here has working basic USB input, so a failure limited to one title points toward that title’s control binding or force-feedback support. A blank test page, missing device, or calibration problem is the condition for Logitech’s advanced registry step.

Use the registry procedure only for the documented Windows symptom

Logitech labels registry work as advanced because it changes Windows configuration directly. Use it only when the Windows Controller test page is blank or calibration is failing after the physical, mode, G HUB, and Controller checks.

Before editing

  • Create a backup of the relevant registry key or a system restore point.
  • Close G HUB and games.
  • Verify that the connected device is the G29 and that the identifier is VID_046D&PID_C24F.
  • Do not delete unrelated joystick entries.

Open the G29 registry location

  1. Press Windows key + R, enter regedit, and accept the administrator prompt if Windows requests it.
  2. Navigate to ComputerHKEY_CURRENT_USERSystemCurrentControlSetControlMediaPropertiesPrivatePropertiesJoystickOEMVID_046D&PID_C24F.
  3. Confirm that the identifier matches the G29 before making any change.
  4. Apply only the correction specified by Logitech’s G29 connection-issues procedure, then close Registry Editor.
  5. Reconnect the wheel and repeat the Windows Controller test.

Logitech describes this as “working directly within the Registry.” If you cannot verify the identifier or do not have a backup, stop at this step rather than editing a different joystick entry. The cited Logitech guidance does not provide a component-level repair procedure for a wheel that remains electrically or mechanically dead.

Separate a game configuration problem from hardware failure

When Windows shows normal input

If G HUB and the Windows Controller panel both show smooth wheel-axis movement, pedal travel, and button presses, the USB hardware is probably functioning. In the affected game:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the game’s controller or input settings.
  2. Select a wheel or steering-wheel preset if the game offers one.
  3. Bind steering, throttle, brake, clutch, and the buttons again rather than relying on an old profile.
  4. Check that the title supports Logitech force feedback; support is a game requirement listed by Logitech.
  5. Set force feedback only after steering and pedal input is recognized.

A game-specific failure does not mean the G29 is disconnected. The decisive comparison is whether the same controls work in G HUB and the Windows Controller panel.

  • Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft

When Windows does not show input

If the wheel is absent from both G HUB and the Controller panel, changing in-game bindings cannot fix the underlying connection. Return to the direct power, correct switch position, alternate USB port, and alternate-host tests. Keep the wheel connected directly during every test so the result is comparable.

Console-specific checks

PlayStation 3

Set the switch to PS3 before connecting the wheel. Connect the power adapter directly to the base and the USB cable directly to the console. Allow the startup rotation to finish before launching a supported game. If the wheel is not detected, repeat the test with another console USB port and without any hub or extension.

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5

Use PS4 mode on both consoles. Connect power and USB directly, then watch for the full left-right-center calibration. Test in a game known to support Logitech force feedback. If the console sees no wheel, test another USB port and, if possible, another compatible console or Windows computer; this separates a console-port issue from a G29 issue.

Diagnose repeated disconnections

A G29 that disconnects after initially working requires the same isolation sequence as a device that is never detected, but the timing provides an additional clue. Record what happens when the wheel drops out:

  • Disconnects immediately at startup: recheck the AC connector, platform switch, and direct USB path.
  • Works on one USB port but not another: use the working port and update the motherboard USB chipset driver as Logitech recommends.
  • Disappears only through a hub, KVM, extension, or monitor port: remove that intermediary and keep the wheel directly connected.
  • G HUB loses it while Windows also loses it: suspect the USB cable, host port, power path, or wheel interface rather than a game profile.
  • G HUB and Windows remain normal while one game stops responding: treat it as a game configuration or compatibility issue and rebind the controls.

Do not infer a hardware failure from one problematic port or one game. A repeatable result on a direct connection and a second host is more informative than a single failed session.

Use this decision table after testing

G HUB Windows Controller What it indicates Next action
Absent Absent The host is not receiving a usable wheel device. Repeat direct power, correct mode, alternate USB port, and alternate-host tests.
Present Blank or calibration fails Windows joystick configuration may be damaged. Back up the registry and use the documented G29 identifier procedure.
Present Axes and buttons respond Basic wheel communication is working. Rebind controls and verify game force-feedback support.
Intermittent Intermittent The connection is dropping at the device or host level. Remove intermediaries, try another port, and test another host.
Normal Normal The operating system can use the wheel. Investigate only the game profile, supported features, or title compatibility.

When replacement or service is the rational next step

Consider a hardware fault when all of the following are true:

  • The power adapter is firmly connected to the wheel base and a known-working outlet.
  • The wheel is in the correct PS3 or PS4 mode for the platform.
  • The USB cable is connected directly, without a hub, extension, KVM, or switch.
  • More than one host USB port has been tested.
  • The wheel never performs its left-right-center calibration.
  • The G29 is absent from both Logitech G HUB and the operating-system Controller panel.

At that point, a failed power path, cable, USB interface, or wheel base is more likely than a software setting. Logitech’s cited support articles do not provide a component repair procedure, so opening the base or replacing internal parts is outside the documented troubleshooting path. The directly relevant replacement product is the Logitech G29 Driving Force Racing Wheel; replace it only after the isolation checks above establish that the existing unit is not communicating.

Final troubleshooting checklist

  1. Disconnect the wheel from the host and reseat the AC connector at the base.
  2. Connect the power adapter directly to a working outlet.
  3. Set PS3 mode for PlayStation 3, or PS4 mode for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC.
  4. Connect USB directly to the host; remove hubs, extensions, KVMs, and switches.
  5. Try another USB port and update the motherboard USB chipset driver if the alternate port works.
  6. Reconnect and watch for full left-right-center calibration.
  7. On Windows, check G HUB, then test axes and buttons in the native Controller panel.
  8. For a blank Controller page or calibration issue, back up the registry and verify VID_046D&PID_C24F before using the documented advanced step.
  9. If Windows input is normal, rebind the affected game and confirm force-feedback support.
  10. If every direct test fails and the wheel remains absent, treat the problem as a likely hardware fault rather than continuing to change game settings.
