You can’t use a PS5 as a display for a Nintendo Switch by connecting the consoles with an HDMI cable: both send video out, and neither provides the HDMI input needed for the other. Connect a supported Switch model’s dock to a TV or monitor instead. If the PS5 itself has no picture, troubleshoot its connection to a display separately.
Why connecting a Switch to a PS5 gives you no signal
The HDMI port on a PS5 is an output, not a video input. Nintendo’s documented TV setup also sends video out from the Switch dock’s HDMI OUT port to a TV or monitor. A direct HDMI cable between the consoles therefore cannot show the Switch screen on the PS5. Get a supported Switch model working on a TV or monitor
1. Confirm the Switch model
Switch Lite does not support TV mode, so it cannot send video to a TV through a dock. A Nintendo Switch or Switch OLED can use a compatible Switch dock; Switch 2 requires Switch 2-compatible accessories. (Nintendo: How to Connect Nintendo Switch to a TV)
2. Check the console in handheld mode
Remove the console from the dock and check whether its own screen works. If the screen is blank handheld, resolve that console power or display problem first; a TV connection cannot isolate it. 3. Reset and verify dock power
- Disconnect the AC adapter from both the wall outlet and the dock for at least 30 seconds.
- Inspect the adapter and cables for visible damage.
- Reconnect the model-appropriate Nintendo adapter directly to a wall outlet and the dock.
The original Switch uses adapter HAC-002; Switch 2 uses adapter NGN-01. Nintendo says the original Switch adapter does not provide enough power for Switch 2 TV mode. 4. Connect the dock directly to the display
- Connect the dock’s HDMI OUT port directly to an HDMI input on the TV or monitor.
- Turn on the display and select the exact HDMI input used.
- For troubleshooting, remove receivers, soundbars, splitters and video adapters from the path.
- Make sure the console faces the right direction and is fully seated in the dock.

5. Isolate the HDMI connection
Change one item at a time so you can tell what fixes the picture:
- Try a different HDMI input on the same display and select that input.
- Try a known-good HDMI cable.
- Connect the dock to another TV or monitor.
If a different input, cable or display works, that points to the part of the connection you changed rather than proving the console or dock is faulty. Nintendo recommends testing another cable and display as part of its troubleshooting. (Nintendo Switch blank-screen troubleshooting)

6. Cross-test the dock if possible
If you can access a compatible dock and adapter, try them with the console. Use equipment made for the relevant Switch generation; similar-looking connectors do not establish compatibility. If another compatible dock restores TV output, the original dock or its power supply may need attention.
7. Contact Nintendo if the issue remains

If the PS5 itself has no picture on a TV
This is a different problem from trying to use the PS5 as a Switch display. Connect the PS5’s HDMI OUT port directly to the TV or monitor, turn on the display and select the matching HDMI input. If the issue happens only at a particular resolution or refresh rate, check that the display, cable and selected HDMI port support that mode, then review the PS5’s Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output options. For applicable 4K/120 Hz modes, PlayStation advises checking display capability and firmware, using a suitable cable and—when available—the correct HDMI 2.1 port. A solid white PS5 indicator means the console is powered on. If it is on but no picture appears, PlayStation directs users to its picture-and-sound troubleshooting. A blinking blue or white indicator can mean a console error and has a separate troubleshooting path. If the picture problem persists, use PlayStation Repairs. A capture card or adapter is not an established fix for turning a PS5 into a Switch monitor. The practical next step is to connect the dock to a separate display.
