Put feasible games in deadline order, reserve realistic play sessions, and decide early whether to shorten your target, move on, or buy a departing game to keep playing.
Find the games leaving your own Game Pass catalog
Open the official Game Pass catalog and select “Leaving soon.” Xbox describes this collection as showing games leaving in the next two weeks. It is a live view, not a permanent schedule: Xbox says titles and availability can vary by region, plan, platform, and over time. Check that each game is available to you and note the listed departure date rather than relying on an old list or a date seen elsewhere.

The Xbox catalog also says members can buy listed games at a discount. The specific game, price, availability, region, and terms are not guaranteed by the collection, so check the offer in your own store before deciding.
Choose what “finish” means for each game
Before estimating time, decide what outcome would feel complete to you. A main-story finish, a main story plus extras, and a completionist run can take very different amounts of time. Xbox’s PC game hubs surface HowLongToBeat community data for main-story and completionist play; Xbox’s description says it can help players compare their playtime with community-sourced completion data (Xbox Wire, February 26, 2024).

Use the estimate for your chosen finish line—not the largest available number by default. Treat it as a planning estimate, not a promise about your own pace. Exploration, difficulty, familiarity with the genre, and interruptions can all affect how long your run takes. If a main-plus-extras estimate is not available in the game hub, use the closest relevant estimate available and allow for uncertainty rather than treating it as exact.
Turn departure dates into a workable queue
For each candidate, write down the details that determine whether it fits your calendar:

- Game and access: confirm the title appears for your plan, region, and platform.
- Departure date: copy the date shown in your current catalog or app.
- Finish line: main story, story plus extras, or completionist.
- Estimated hours: record the matching HowLongToBeat figure and its category.
- Available sessions: estimate the hours you can genuinely play before the date, not the hours you hope to find.
Prioritize titles with the nearest departure date, but check feasibility before committing. If the available sessions do not plausibly cover the chosen estimate, rank a more achievable game ahead of it—or choose a shorter finish line. When several games fit, favor the one you most want to complete as well as the one with the earlier deadline. This is a personal planning method, not an Xbox scoring rule.
Schedule sessions and keep checking dates
Block out actual gaming sessions on your calendar and divide your estimated hours across them. For example, if your chosen estimate is 12 hours and you can reliably play four hours a week, plan around three weeks of sessions, then compare that schedule with the listed departure date. That is arithmetic for your own plan, not a guarantee that the game will take exactly 12 hours or remain available until a particular day.

Xbox has described departure notices through its apps, console collection, Xbox Wire posts, and notifications, and its current catalog presents a two-week “Leaving soon” window. Do not assume every game will receive an identical or fixed amount of advance notice. Recheck the catalog and any available app notifications while you are playing, especially if your schedule is tight. Xbox’s November 2020 guide describes those historical notification routes; app layouts and feature availability can change.
If you cannot finish before removal
Choose a shorter finish line
If the main story is what matters to you, switch from a completionist target to the main story and use the corresponding estimate. Do this early enough to make a workable schedule, rather than treating optional content as mandatory.

Defer the game
If even the shorter target does not fit, move on to a game you can finish in the time available. There is no published statistic establishing a universal chance of finishing before removal or a single reliable number of spare hours to add; your schedule and pace are individual.
Buy it to continue after it leaves
Xbox’s guidance is that members can buy a departing title, potentially using the member discount, to keep playing after it leaves Game Pass. Check the current store listing for the exact price, regional availability, and purchase terms. Xbox’s 2020 Game Pass guide also describes buying games before departure, but it does not establish today’s offer for any particular title.

Do not count on cloud gaming to extend catalog access
Cloud play does not prevent a game from leaving the catalog. Separately, Xbox announced on September 3, 2026 that monthly cloud gaming allowances would begin in November 2026: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential. Xbox said the change was expected to affect 4% of Game Pass subscribers. These are plan allowances announced by Xbox, not estimates of how long a game takes to finish. The announcement said market availability and purchase options could vary and that pricing and further details would be shared before the change; check Xbox’s announcement for current terms rather than assuming those details remain unchanged.
