The details may identify the claimant, where the material appears, and—when the strike concerns a specific track—the Infringing audio track. If you cannot access the channel, check YouTube’s copyright-removal email.
Find the song and claimant in YouTube Studio
- Confirm that the notice is a copyright strike. Check the email about the removed stream and the notice in Studio. YouTube says its strike notification comes from
no-reply@youtube.comand explains why the content was removed. If an email seems suspicious, navigate to YouTube directly instead of following its links. - Open YouTube Studio and select Content. Use the filter bar to select Copyright, then locate the removed livestream or its archived video.
- Open the copyright details. In the Restrictions column, hover over Copyright and select See details. Review the overview for the status and content used, then open the additional details for the claimant and where the material appears.
- Check for the track identification. If YouTube identifies a specific audio track associated with the strike, look for Infringing audio track. This is the most direct account-specific answer; do not assume that a song you remember hearing is the one named in the strike.
YouTube documents those labels and steps, but Studio’s layout can change. Follow the current labels shown in your account if they differ.
If you cannot access Studio
Use the copyright-removal notification email from YouTube. YouTube says the email contains strike information for creators who cannot access their channel. Confirm the sender and navigate to YouTube independently if you are unsure the message is genuine. See YouTube’s guidance on understanding copyright strikes.
Check whether it was a strike or a Content ID claim
A copyright strike follows removal of content after YouTube determines a copyright removal request appears valid. A Content ID claim is a different outcome: it typically does not itself cause a strike, though it can restrict a video’s availability or monetization. Check the exact Studio notice before deciding what happened or how to respond. YouTube’s copyright troubleshooting guidance explains how to review copyright details for labels such as “Includes copyrighted content,” “Muted due to copyrighted content,” or “Blocked.”

Why a livestream interruption may not name the song
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies such content, a placeholder may replace the stream and YouTube may warn you to stop using it; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A stream can also be terminated when a copyright strike is issued. An interruption by itself does not tell you which song was involved, so check the specific Studio notice.
Archived livestreams follow a separate timing: YouTube says Content ID claims are made after the stream ends if you choose to archive the video. That means a live interruption and a later claim on an archive are not necessarily the same enforcement event. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

What to do once you identify the track
Finding a song or claimant does not establish whether a removal was legally correct. YouTube lists three ways to resolve a copyright strike:
- Complete Copyright School and wait for the strike to expire. YouTube says a strike can expire after 90 days if Copyright School is completed; verify current requirements and timing in its copyright strike guidance.
- Ask the person who submitted the removal request to retract it.
- Submit a counter notification if you believe the content was removed by mistake or qualifies for a copyright exception. A counter notification is a legal process; consider qualified legal advice if you are uncertain.
Deleting the video after a strike does not clear the strike. Review YouTube’s current instructions before choosing a response.

If you had a music license
Keep the license and related records, then contact the rights owner about the specific claim. YouTube says a rights owner should add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for licensed third-party material; without allowlisting, a stream can still be interrupted. Allowlisting is a prevention and rights-management step for future streams, not a substitute for checking the track and claimant named in the existing strike.
