Start with the charge on your bank or card statement, then confirm the billing account using receipts and subscription records. Cancel through the account that manages the subscription—not necessarily the company named on the charge—and save the confirmation.

Identify the charge and the account behind it

  1. Record the statement details. Note the exact descriptor, amount, and date. The name may identify a payment platform or intermediary rather than the streaming service, so treat it as a clue and confirm it against an account or receipt.
  2. Search your email for receipts. Search for the streaming service’s name and for billing messages. For an Apple-billed subscription, Apple recommends searching for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple” and checking which Apple Account appears on the receipt. If there is no Apple receipt, Apple advises checking the bank or card statement to identify the company billing the subscription. Apple Support’s cancellation guidance explains these checks.
  3. Check likely subscription lists. Review the accounts you may have used to subscribe: Apple Account, Google Play, Roku, Amazon, and the streaming service itself. A carrier, cable provider, bundle, or another intermediary may also handle billing, so these platforms are not an exhaustive list.

Where to check

  • Apple: On iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your account name, then tap Subscriptions. Apple also provides instructions for finding and canceling a subscription on other devices at Apple Support.
  • Google Play: Review subscriptions in Google Play if you may have subscribed there. Google Play Help explains how to cancel, pause, or change a subscription.
  • Roku: Check your Roku account subscriptions and purchase history. Roku-billed charges may appear on a statement as “Roku,” “Roku for [provider],” or “The Roku Channel.” Use Roku’s purchase-history instructions to review charges.
  • Amazon: Check Memberships & Subscriptions for Prime membership billing or Prime Video add-ons. See Amazon Prime Video Help for payment and order issues.
  • The streaming service or another provider: Check the service’s account billing or subscription page, and any carrier, cable, or bundle account that could include it.

Find who controls cancellation

The company charging your payment method and the company that controls cancellation are not always the same. Look for the subscription in an account’s subscription list, then follow any instructions there about where it is managed. If you do not find it in one account, check other likely accounts, receipts, and the service provider’s account; absence from a single list does not prove the subscription is canceled.

Roku documents both arrangements: some subscriptions billed through Roku are managed and canceled by the streaming service—for example, Disney+, Hulu, and Sling TV—while other subscriptions are managed through Roku. Subscriptions purchased directly from a provider must be handled with that provider. Roku’s subscription guidance explains the distinction. Roku also says that if a charge appears on a statement but the subscription is absent from Roku purchase history, it was purchased directly through the service provider.

Cancel through the account that manages the subscription

  1. Open the account or subscription page where the subscription appears and confirm the service name and renewal information.
  2. Use that account’s cancellation flow to turn off renewal. For an Apple-billed subscription on iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > your account name > Subscriptions, select the subscription, then tap Cancel Subscription. Apple says that if there is no Cancel button or an expiration message appears, the subscription may already be canceled. See Apple’s instructions.
  3. For Google Play, Roku, Amazon, or a service-provider subscription, follow the cancellation instructions for the account that manages it; the available steps depend on that provider. The relevant help pages are Google Play, Roku, and Amazon Prime Video.
  4. Save the confirmation email or a screenshot of the canceled status. Note the access end date and the next renewal date that would otherwise have applied.

Check cancellation timing and billing afterward

Deadlines and access after cancellation vary by provider. Apple says to cancel a trial at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid renewal; do not assume that timing applies to other services. Check the specific account’s renewal date and terms. For a Roku-managed subscription, turning off auto-renew leaves access in place through the current billing cycle. Google Play says charges recur at the beginning of each billing cycle unless the user unsubscribes. Roku Support and Google Play Help describe those policies.
