If your VMware reseller or support partner has lost authorization, first check your own entitlement in the Broadcom Support Portal. A partner’s authorization change does not by itself establish whether your contract is still active, has transferred, can be renewed, or qualifies for a new offer. Verify the account record, then ask Broadcom or a reseller currently authorized for your specific offering to confirm the route in writing.
Start by checking your Broadcom Support Portal account
VMware Customer Connect stopped being available to VMware customers on May 5, 2024. The current customer portal is the Broadcom Support Portal. Broadcom’s getting-started article explains the transition and portal functions.
- Sign in to or activate your customer account in the Broadcom Support Portal.
- Open My Entitlements and check the relevant product entitlement, downloads, and license keys. Portal navigation may vary by product; the September 3, 2026 VCF 9.1 FAQ also directs VCF 9.1 customers to My Entitlements.
- Record the customer organization, product, contract or order details, entitlement identifiers, and maintenance or support end date shown for the relevant item.
- Use the portal to open, track, or update a support case if the entitlement is active and the case option is available for your account.
If an entitlement is missing, do not infer that the partner change removed your rights. Ask Broadcom customer assistance or the seller identified in your order records to reconcile the portal account against the contract and entitlement details.
Check whether maintenance is still active
Broadcom’s global Maintenance Policy Handbook, revision Maint-HB-RM111 dated June 8, 2026, says active maintenance is required for Essential Support and its associated benefits. It says customers must complete renewal before the maintenance term expires; after expiration, the expired term no longer provides entitlement to maintenance or support deliverables. Do not assume a lapsed contract can be reinstated on its previous terms.

The handbook lists a minimum maintenance purchase term of 12 months. That policy figure is not a statement that every current product offer, subscription, or renewal is available for 12 months; confirm the terms attached to your specific product and quote.
Choose the support route that matches your account
For a support case
If the portal recognizes an active entitlement, use its case-management workflow and follow the routing displayed for that account. For some offerings, requests submitted through the Broadcom portal can route automatically to certified or authorized partner support. Broadcom’s explanation of partner-provided technical support describes this arrangement for certain cases; it is not a universal rule. Avoid relying on an old third-party support URL when the portal provides the supported route.

For an entitlement or policy question
Contact Broadcom customer assistance, your Broadcom sales representative, or a reseller currently authorized for the specific offering. The handbook says some partners may provide support for certain offerings if they are certified; it does not mean every reseller supplies technical support or that every customer request goes to a partner. Confirm the prospective provider’s current authorization and service scope directly.
For a renewal quote
Give the representative the customer account, product and version, entitlement or contract identifier, end date, and any quote already received. Ask whether the proposed transaction is a renewal of existing maintenance, a new subscription purchase, or another offer. Request the applicable terms in writing, including what happens to support and licensing rights. The available policy does not establish a universal renewal route, price, or automatic transfer when a partner loses authorization.

Handle legacy perpetual licenses and SnS separately
In a February 2024 announcement, VMware by Broadcom said sales of perpetual licenses and renewals of support and subscription (SnS) for perpetual offerings would end beginning February 4, 2024. It also said customers with active contracts would continue receiving support through their contract expiration. The announcement is a dated policy statement about legacy perpetual offerings, not proof that every current subscription follows the same terms. See the February 8, 2024 announcement summary.
If your perpetual license has an expiring SnS term, ask Broadcom or a currently authorized reseller which subscription or other offer is available for that product and region. Do not treat a proposed subscription as a continuation or renewal of the former perpetual SnS contract unless the written offer says so.

Separate the customer entitlement from a provider’s license
Before discussing renewal or portability, establish who holds the relevant entitlement: your organization, a cloud provider, an OEM, or another service provider. Agreements can attach support and license rights to different parties. The VCF 9.1 FAQ describes portability distinctions for VCF 9.1 specifically; its eligibility rules should not be applied to other VMware products. Ask Broadcom to confirm how the named entitlement and agreement are treated.
What the partner change does—and does not—tell you
The sources do not establish that loss of authorization automatically transfers a customer contract, ends an active contract, or creates a new renewal path. Those outcomes depend on the customer’s account, agreement, product, and current offer. The reliable next step is to verify the portal record and get a customer-specific answer from Broadcom or an authorized provider before a maintenance term expires.
