The most reliable way to find U.S. technology employers that sponsor work visas is to combine three checks: review an employer’s historical H-1B petitions in the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub, verify occupation and location evidence in the Department of Labor’s FLAG labor-condition records, and obtain written confirmation that the specific job will support your immigration route. A past filing proves activity, not a promise to sponsor a particular vacancy.
What counts as convincing sponsorship evidence?
Visa sponsorship is job-specific. An employer may have filed thousands of H-1B petitions and still decline to sponsor a particular team, occupation, worksite, employment start date, or candidate. Treat public filing data as a screening signal, then confirm the current opening directly with recruiting.
For a practical shortlist, look for all three layers of evidence:
- USCIS petition history: the employer appears in the H-1B Employer Data Hub with activity that matches your occupation and target geography.
- DOL labor-condition evidence: the employer has certified Labor Condition Applications (LCAs) for a comparable occupation, worksite and period.
- Current vacancy confirmation: the job posting or recruiter explicitly addresses H-1B sponsorship, a change of employer, or another immigration option for the exact role.
USCIS says employers petitioning for specialty-occupation workers first need a certified DOL LCA and then file Form I-129. That sequence explains why the two government datasets complement each other, but neither dataset guarantees that a new petition will be filed for you.

Define your search before opening a database
Write down the constraints that determine whether a company is useful to you. This prevents a large filing count from distracting you from an occupation or location mismatch.
Occupation and seniority
Identify the work you will actually perform, not only your preferred title. “Software engineer,” “data scientist,” “security analyst” and “product manager” can map to different Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) categories. Record your likely SOC family, degree field, years of experience and seniority. H-1B eligibility depends on a specialty occupation and the role’s normal degree requirements, so a company’s filings for a different function may be irrelevant.
Location and work arrangement
List acceptable states, metropolitan areas and office locations. For hybrid or remote roles, ask where the employer will place the official worksite and whether the arrangement can change after filing. A filing tied to one worksite does not automatically cover a move to another area; an amendment or other immigration action may be required.

Immigration timing
Note whether you need an initial cap-subject petition, a change of employer, a change of status, a transfer, or another route. Also record your current status, expiration date and any employment-authorization restrictions. Give recruiters a specific start-date window rather than saying only that you “need sponsorship.”
Use the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub
USCIS launched the H-1B Employer Data Hub on April 1, 2019, to provide information about employers petitioning for H-1B workers. Use it to discover employers and test whether their activity resembles your target job.
Search and record the right fields
- Open the USCIS H-1B Employer Data Hub.
- Search the employer’s legal or commonly used name. Try spelling variations if the first result is incomplete.
- Filter by fiscal year and, where available, NAICS code, state, city or ZIP code that matches your target market.
- Record the number of initial approvals separately from continuing approvals. USCIS defines continuing approvals to include continuing employment, changes of employer and amended petitions.
- Save the employer name, fiscal year, decision type, city, state and any tax-identification information shown so you can compare it with DOL records.
Do not treat a city or ZIP result as proof of the beneficiary’s worksite. USCIS warns that state and city fields are mailing-address fields and may not be the actual location where the worker performs the job. Data-entry or petitioner errors can also affect an employer name, tax ID, state, city or ZIP.
Understand what the USCIS numbers include
The hub reports adjudicated first decisions. It excludes pending cases and later appeal or revocation decisions. A low count can therefore reflect timing or a narrow reporting window rather than a complete absence of sponsorship. Conversely, a high count records past adjudications, not future hiring plans.

Verify the employer’s LCAs in DOL FLAG
The Department of Labor’s FLAG system covers H-1B, H-1B1 and E-3 specialty-occupation programs and provides labor-condition information and disclosure material. An LCA is not an approved visa; it is the employer’s labor attestation that precedes the relevant USCIS petition.
What the employer attests to
DOL states that the required wage must be the higher of:
- the actual wage paid to similarly experienced and qualified employees doing the same job for that employer; or
- the prevailing wage predominantly paid for the occupation in the area of intended employment when the application is filed.
Employers submit ETA-9035 or ETA-9035E electronically through FLAG. A certified LCA can support the employer’s next steps with USCIS and the Department of State, but certification alone does not establish that your offer, salary, worksite or petition will be approved.

Compare an LCA with the vacancy
- Search DOL disclosure data or FLAG material for the employer.
- Match the employer’s legal identity and, where available, its Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN).
- Compare the SOC or occupation description with the advertised duties.
- Compare the listed worksite with the job’s office, hybrid or remote arrangement.
- Check the wage rate, wage level and filing date against the role’s compensation range and anticipated start date.
- Record whether the filing is recent and whether multiple LCAs cover the same occupation and location.
A wage mismatch is a reason to ask questions, not automatic proof of ineligibility. The advertised range may span levels, while the LCA may reflect a particular worker or worksite. Ask the employer’s immigration team which wage and location would be used for your petition.
Inspect the public-access-file trail
DOL says an H-1B employer must make specified materials available to workers and the public within one working day of filing. Where accessible, the public-access file (PAF) can reveal more context than an employer name alone.
Materials to look for
- The certified LCA and its filing details.
- The wage rate paid to the H-1B worker.
- An explanation of the actual wage system.
- The source used to determine the prevailing wage.
- Documentation showing how and where notice was provided.
- A summary of the benefits offered to H-1B workers.
Use the PAF to test whether the employer’s occupation, worksite and wage practices align with the vacancy. Do not infer that a public file means the employer is accepting applications or that it will reuse the same LCA for a different job.

Confirm the exact job with the employer
After government-data screening, read the employer’s own career page and the complete posting. Look for phrases such as “visa sponsorship,” “immigration sponsorship,” “H-1B,” “transfer of an existing H-1B,” “change of employer” or “work authorization.” Also note exclusions such as “no sponsorship now or in the future,” “must be authorized to work without sponsorship,” or a restriction to candidates with unrestricted authorization.
Ask a precise written question
Send recruiting a short question that identifies the role, location and timing:
“For the [job title] position in [city or approved remote location], will the company sponsor an H-1B petition or an H-1B change of employer for a candidate starting [month and year]? If the role is hybrid or remote, which worksite would be used for the filing?”
Ask whether the answer comes from the recruiting team or the immigration department, and save the response with its date. A verbal statement that the company “usually sponsors” is less useful than a written answer tied to the requisition number.
Clarify the type of support
“Sponsorship” can mean different things. Ask whether the employer will support an initial cap-subject H-1B, a change of employer for someone already in H-1B status, an extension, an amendment after relocation, or an employment-based green-card process. The company may support one action while excluding another.

- Set your target. Write down occupation, SOC family, seniority, degree field, acceptable locations, current status and immigration deadline.
- Build an employer list in USCIS data. Search names, fiscal years, NAICS codes and target geography. Separate initial and continuing approvals and note the date range.
- Cross-check DOL records. Look for LCAs matching the occupation, worksite, wage and filing period. Investigate discrepancies rather than averaging them away.
- Review the PAF where available. Check the LCA, wage explanation, prevailing-wage source, notice and benefits summary.
- Validate the live requisition. Read the employer’s posting for explicit sponsorship language and ask recruiting the precise written question above.
- Keep alternatives. Save the evidence, recruiter response and date for each employer, then maintain several applications because sponsorship policies differ by team, location and hiring cycle.
What the latest technology hiring data can—and cannot—tell you
DOL FY2026 first-quarter LCA selected statistics, reported as data available on December 31, 2025, show the scale of specialty-occupation filings. They describe applications and certified positions, not guaranteed vacancies, visa approvals or future sponsorship.
| Measure | FY2026 Q1 figure | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Applications received | 76,164 | Applications submitted to DOL during the reported period. |
| Applications processed | 83,116 | Applications processed during the period; this can exceed receipts because processing may include earlier submissions. |
| Applications certified | 75,488 | LCAs certified by DOL, not USCIS-approved petitions. |
| Positions certified | 163,306 | Worker positions represented by certified LCAs; not open jobs. |
| Software Developer positions | 55,517 (34.0%) | The largest listed occupation share in the cited technology-oriented statistics. |
| California | 53,940 (33.0%) | Certified positions by state. |
| Texas | 20,628 (12.6%) | Certified positions by state. |
| Washington | 12,759 (7.8%) | Certified positions by state. |
The same DOL table lists top employers by unique FEIN: Qualcomm Technologies (25,555 positions), Amazon.com Services (10,616), LinkedIn (3,812), Amazon Web Services (2,899), Cisco (2,868), NVIDIA (2,491) and Infosys (2,272). Because the calculation uses unique FEINs, one employer name can appear across multiple FEINs. These counts are useful for discovering organizations with filing activity, but they do not establish a sponsorship percentage or predict a particular team’s decision.

Compare employers with an evidence scorecard
Do not rank employers by petition volume alone. Use the following comparison axes for every shortlisted vacancy:
| Factor | Questions to answer | Strong evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Recency and decision type | How recent is the activity? Is it initial or continuing? | Recent initial activity, with continuing activity understood separately. |
| Occupation match | Does the SOC and duty description resemble your role? | Same or closely related occupation and degree requirement. |
| Worksite | Does the LCA location fit the advertised office or remote arrangement? | Matching city or a clearly documented remote-work plan. |
| Wage alignment | Can the offered salary satisfy the required actual-or-prevailing-wage rule? | Recruiter or immigration-team confirmation for your level and location. |
| Vacancy language | Does the posting explicitly address sponsorship? | Positive wording for the exact requisition, not a generic careers-page statement. |
| Employer process | Will it handle transfer, amendment, extension or green-card steps? | A documented process and a contact who can explain it. |
| Filing scale | How much historical activity exists? | Useful as context only; never the deciding factor. |
Give the most weight to a written answer about the exact job. A smaller employer with a matching LCA and clear commitment can be a better prospect than a large filer whose current requisition excludes sponsorship.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Mistake: treating an LCA as a visa approval
Correction: An LCA is a DOL labor attestation. The employer still must file the appropriate USCIS petition, and the case can face eligibility, selection or adjudication issues.
Mistake: assuming the largest filer sponsors every role
Correction: Filing volume is aggregated across occupations, entities, offices and years. Match the SOC, worksite, wage and live requisition.
Mistake: reading a mailing address as the work location
Correction: USCIS identifies state and city fields as mailing-address data that may not be the beneficiary’s worksite. Confirm the location with the employer.
Mistake: counting pending cases as evidence
Correction: The USCIS hub reports adjudicated first decisions and excludes pending cases and later appeal or revocation decisions. Record the coverage period before drawing conclusions.

Mistake: overlooking FEIN and name variations
Correction: Search legal-name variations and compare FEIN information where available. DOL’s employer tables can show the same organization under more than one FEIN.
Mistake: assuming remote work eliminates immigration requirements
Correction: Ask which worksite the employer will use, whether relocation is permitted and whether a later move would require an amendment or other filing.
Understand the visa and cap context
FLAG material covers H-1B, H-1B1 and E-3 specialty-occupation programs, but the public employer workflow described here is primarily an H-1B screening method. The cited annual H-1B limits are 65,000 regular numbers plus 20,000 exemptions for qualifying U.S. advanced-degree holders. Selection and eligibility rules can change, so check current USCIS instructions before relying on a cap number, registration requirement or filing timeline.
Your strategy differs depending on whether you need a cap-subject first filing or are changing employers while already in H-1B status. Tell recruiting which situation applies; “transfer” and “initial sponsorship” are not interchangeable requests.
Keep an evidence log while applying
Create one row per employer and requisition. Record the USCIS search date and filters, initial and continuing approval counts, DOL LCA occupation and worksite, wage information, posting language, recruiter’s name, written answer and answer date. Update the row if the requisition changes.
This log prevents three costly errors: applying repeatedly to jobs that prohibit sponsorship, confusing an employer’s historical activity with a current commitment, and losing the worksite or timing details needed by an immigration lawyer. If your status is time-sensitive, have qualified immigration counsel review the employer’s proposed filing strategy rather than relying on public databases alone.
