Legacy of Valor refers to Veteranos: A Legacy of Valor, a live theatrical tribute—not a film or television series. The production was presented by Latin Heat Entertainment with Plaza de la Raza for Memorial Day in Los Angeles in May 2015. Written and directed by Enrique Castillo, it dramatizes the life of East Los Angeles native U.S. Marine Corps PFC Eugene Arnold Obregon, who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions during the Korean War.
The May 2015 cast notice names 11 performers. Five have specifically assigned character roles, while six are credited to the ensemble. Separate theatre biographies document additional performers from the national tour and verify selected earlier stage, film and television credits. The cast list below separates those documented facts from credits that cannot be confirmed.
What production does “Legacy of Valor” mean?
Searches for Legacy of Valor can be misleading because the title is commonly shortened. The documented production is Veteranos: A Legacy of Valor, a live stage tribute created for a Memorial Day presentation in Los Angeles in May 2015. It was produced by Latin Heat Entertainment in partnership with Plaza de la Raza.

Actor, writer and director Enrique Castillo wrote and directed the play. Its central subject is Eugene Arnold Obregon, an East Los Angeles native and U.S. Marine Corps private first class who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for Korean War actions. The production honors Obregon and other Latinos who served and died in U.S. military service.

Because this is a stage production, the cast can vary by presentation or tour. The 11-person list in the May 2015 cast notice is the best baseline for the original Los Angeles presentation. A South Coast Repertory biography also documents performers from a later national tour, including Sol Castillo, who is not listed in that 2015 notice.

Brandon Vladimir as Eugene A. Obregon
Brandon Vladimir is credited as Eugene A. Obregon in the May 2015 cast notice. Obregon is the historical figure at the center of the play: an East Los Angeles Marine whose Korean War actions earned the Congressional Medal of Honor. The available cast material does not provide a citable list of Vladimir’s earlier roles, so no additional screen or stage credits should be attributed to him here.

Raul Cardona as The Warrior
Raul Cardona played “The Warrior.” South Coast Repertory’s biography records theatre work in Zoot Suit and other productions. The same biography lists screen appearances in The Mayans MC, Enlightened, Outlaw, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Shadow Kingdom with Bob Dylan. It also confirms that Cardona appeared in the national tour of Veteranos: A Legacy of Valor.
Alexander Deeney as Bert Johnson
Alexander Deeney is listed as Bert Johnson. The May 2015 notice does not attach previous-role information to his name, and the available theatre material does not establish a citable earlier credit. His confirmed connection to the production is the Bert Johnson assignment in the original cast notice.
Karina Noelle as Virginia Obregon
Karina Noelle is credited as Virginia Obregon. No verifiable previous-role biography is supplied in the available production and theatre records. It is therefore more accurate to stop at the documented Virginia Obregon credit than to infer work from unrelated performer listings.
Ben Leasure as Drill Instructor
Ben Leasure played the Drill Instructor. The cast notice identifies the role but does not provide earlier stage, film or television credits that can be confirmed from the available records.

Documented previous roles and credits
Only a subset of the performers has a publicly documented credit trail tied to this production. The distinctions below matter because a stage cast list and a performer biography answer different questions: the first establishes who was hired for a particular presentation, while the second establishes work the performer had done elsewhere.
Raul Cardona
Cardona has the clearest documented combination of theatre, television and film work among the performers named in the 2015 notice.
- Stage: South Coast Repertory lists him in Zoot Suit and other theatre productions.
- Television and streaming: His listed screen credits include The Mayans MC, Enlightened and Outlaw.
- Film and filmed performance: The biography also cites Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Shadow Kingdom with Bob Dylan.
- Veteranos connection: The biography confirms his participation in the national tour of Veteranos: A Legacy of Valor, in addition to the “The Warrior” credit in the May 2015 cast notice.
Sol Castillo: a documented national-tour performer, not part of the 2015 notice
Sol Castillo requires a careful qualification. Sol Castillo does not appear in the 11-person May 2015 cast notice, but South Coast Repertory programs document Sol as a performer on the national tour of Veteranos, portraying Eugene A. Obregon.

Enrique Castillo
Enrique Castillo both created the production and has a substantial earlier acting record. His biographical record identifies him as an actor, writer, director and producer.

Castillo’s creative-team role is distinct from the acting assignments in the 2015 cast notice. He wrote and directed the tribute, while the notice separately identifies the performers portraying Obregon, The Warrior, Bert Johnson, Virginia Obregon, the Drill Instructor and the ensemble.
Which cast members do not have verified previous-role listings?
The available production records name Natalia Ferreiro, Marissa Herrera, Alvaro Renteria, Michael Gonzalez, Jessica Cornejo and Laurie Muñiz as ensemble performers, and identify Alexander Deeney, Karina Noelle and Ben Leasure in principal roles. They do not, however, supply citable previous-role biographies for these performers.

That absence should not be read as proof that they had no earlier work. It means only that the records supporting this cast list do not establish specific credits. Laurie Muñiz has the additional 2015 credit of choreographer, but no earlier acting or choreography roles are verified in the available material. A reliable cast guide should leave these entries unexpanded rather than attach credits to the wrong person.

Original cast versus national-tour credits
There are two separate identification tasks:
- Identify the original presentation. Use the May 2015 notice for the 11-person Los Angeles cast and its five named character assignments.
- Identify touring performers. Use theatre programs and biographies that explicitly describe national-tour participation. Those records add Sol Castillo as Eugene A. Obregon and also confirm Raul Cardona’s tour connection.
A tour replacement or later production does not rewrite the original cast notice. If a listing names Sol Castillo as Obregon, it is describing the national tour documented by South Coast Repertory, not adding Sol to the May 2015 Los Angeles cast.
How to verify a cast listing without mixing roles
Check the production title and date
Start with the full title, Veteranos: A Legacy of Valor, and the May 2015 Memorial Day presentation in Los Angeles. This prevents confusion with an unrelated film, television program or another event using “Legacy of Valor” as a shortened title.
Separate acting, creative and historical credits
“Eugene A. Obregon” is the character portrayal; Eugene Obregon himself was the historical Marine honored by the play. Enrique Castillo is the writer-director and also an actor with earlier screen roles. Marcos Loya and Castillo are credited with original music, and Billy Meza is the musical director. Laurie Muñiz is both an ensemble performer and choreographer. Keeping those categories separate avoids treating production staff as cast members or a historical subject as an actor.
Record the source type with each claim
A contemporary cast notice is strongest for who appeared in that specific presentation. A theatre biography or program is stronger for a performer’s earlier credits or a national-tour engagement. When the two sources describe different engagements, preserve the distinction instead of combining them into one expanded cast.
