The quickest way to find a Nintendo Switch game is to search Nintendo eShop, then narrow the results with Price Range and Genre. If you are starting with a type of game rather than a title, Nintendo’s web Games catalogue is easier for browsing. For a date-led search, browse recent releases and confirm the release date for your country because Nintendo dates can differ by region.

Use the official Sales and Deals page for current digital discounts, and compare the digital listing with the physical edition before buying. The right choice depends on the local release date, platform edition, total price, and whether you need a cartridge, resale option, or gift.

Choose the search method that matches what you know

Nintendo provides three useful starting points, and each suits a different question:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

  • You know a title or keyword: search in Nintendo eShop on the Switch and apply Price Range and Genre.
  • You know a genre but not a title: browse Nintendo’s web Games catalogue, where genre-led browsing and software filters make discovery easier.
  • You want the newest games: use recent-release listings in the official catalogue, then verify the local release date on the game’s Nintendo listing.
  • You want the lowest current digital price: check Nintendo’s Sales and Deals page and note when you checked it, because discounts and end dates change.

After making a shortlist, compare release date, genre and play style, regular and sale prices, digital or physical format, and whether the listing is for the original Switch, Switch 2, or a Switch 2 Edition.

Search Nintendo eShop by keyword, genre, and price

The on-console eShop is the most direct route when you have a title, character, series, or gameplay idea in mind.

  1. From the Switch HOME Menu, open Nintendo eShop.
  2. Select the magnifying-glass Search icon.
  3. Enter a keyword. This can be a game title, series name, publisher, or a term describing the game you want.
  4. Review the result list and adjust Price Range and/or Genre to narrow it. Nintendo Support describes these controls as a way to display only games within the category you set.
  5. Open a result and check its edition, supported console, release information, price, and purchase options before proceeding.

Searching first and filtering second is useful when a broad word produces many results. For example, a keyword related to racing can be narrowed by a racing genre and a price range, while a series name can be narrowed to the specific entry you want. Filters reduce the list; they do not replace checking the individual product page.

What the eShop filters tell you

Genre is a discovery aid, not a complete description of how a game plays. A title can combine several styles, and the store’s assigned category may not communicate whether it is primarily single-player, competitive, story-driven, or designed for short sessions. Read the product description and screenshots after filtering.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Price Range narrows the displayed games by the store price available in your account’s region. It does not guarantee that a physical copy costs the same, that downloadable content is included, or that the price will remain after a sale ends. Treat the amount shown on the product page as the current digital price for that account region.

Browse Nintendo’s web catalogue when you do not know a title

Nintendo’s web Games catalogue is better than an eShop keyword search when your starting point is “What should I play?” rather than a known name. Open the catalogue and browse its genre-led sections and Switch software filters.

  • Fight faster and smarter with new and returning techniques, like the perfect shield and directional air dodge
  • Face off in 2-4 player battles, or play against the computer

Start with a genre, then narrow your shortlist

  1. Choose a broad genre in the Games catalogue.
  2. Use the available Switch software filters to remove platforms or products that do not apply to you.
  3. Open promising games and record their title, genre description, release date, regular price, sale price if shown, and edition.
  4. Discard entries that are for a different platform, a bundle you do not want, or a Switch 2 Edition when you need the original Switch version.

Genre-led browsing is particularly useful for categories where store labels overlap. Make your own short description of the core play style—such as “turn-based strategy,” “co-op action,” or “story-focused adventure”—so that two games with the same store genre can be compared on what you actually do in them.

Use the catalogue as a comparison list, not a price guarantee

Nintendo’s catalogue displays product prices and game listings, but prices are volatile. A price shown on a page can change, and a promotion can end. Before publishing a guide, making a purchase, or sending someone a recommendation, recheck the listing in the reader’s region and record the date checked.

Find the newest Switch games by release date

Nintendo’s official catalogue can be used for date-led discovery, but release dates require more care than a simple “newest first” list.

Browse recent releases

  1. Open Nintendo’s official Games catalogue for Switch software.
  2. Use its recent-release or date-oriented browsing options to see newly listed games.
  3. Open each candidate’s product page and verify the release date shown for your country.
  4. Compare the date with the edition you intend to buy. A standard Switch game, a Switch 2 version, and a Switch 2 Edition can have different listings or availability.

When a catalogue page groups products or uses a general release list, the individual product page is the final check. Nintendo’s release documentation warns that release dates may differ by region, so do not copy a date from a United States listing into a United Kingdom, European, or other regional guide without verification.

Understand eShop release time

The calendar date and the moment a game becomes playable are not always the same. Nintendo Support states that the exact eShop release time is decided by the publisher and may vary by title. Nintendo also notes that many titles become playable at 9:00 p.m. Pacific Time on the night before the physical release, but that timing is not universal.

Mario Kart™ World (Nintendo Switch 2)
  • Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world
  • Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle

  • Take on the adrenaline-packed Knockout Tour—a fierce 24-driver elimination mode
  • Explore courses at your own pace and wander the world to discover fun surprises in Free Roam

If launch timing matters, check the game’s own Nintendo listing and publisher announcement for your region. Do not assume that a midnight local launch, a 9:00 p.m. Pacific launch, or the physical street date applies to every game.

Record dates with their region

A useful release-date note includes the market and edition, for example: “United States digital release, original Switch listing” or “United Kingdom physical release.” This prevents a regional date from being mistaken for a worldwide launch and makes an updated article or buying decision easier to audit.

Find cheap Switch games without confusing a sale with the normal price

Use Price Range for a budget-first search

In eShop search, set the Price Range filter before opening every result. This is the fastest way to remove games outside your budget when you already have a keyword or genre in mind. After filtering, still inspect each product page for edition, included content, and the price that applies to your account region.

Check Nintendo’s Sales and Deals page

Nintendo’s official Sales and Deals page is the appropriate place to check current digital discounts. Sale prices and end dates are temporary. Write down the date you checked a deal whenever you publish or share a price, and recheck it before buying. A game can return to its regular price after the stated promotion ends, and a promotion available in one region may not appear in another.

Use the regular price as the comparison baseline

Show both the regular price and the current sale price when both are listed. A percentage discount can look impressive while the resulting price still exceeds a reader’s budget, and a low sale price does not indicate how often a game is discounted. The regular price is also the amount a reader may pay after the promotion expires.

GamesRadar+ described $59.99 in the United States and £49.99 in the United Kingdom as a common Nintendo Switch launch price in 2026. That is a general market example, not a universal Nintendo price: launch prices vary by title and market, and discounts vary as well. Use the live Nintendo listing for the exact game rather than applying those figures to every release.

Calculate the total cost, not only the headline price

  • Check whether you are viewing the base game, a deluxe edition, a bundle, or a Switch 2 Edition.
  • Check whether required or optional downloadable content changes the final cost.
  • Confirm the account region and currency before comparing prices across pages.
  • For a physical copy, include delivery, taxes where applicable, and any retailer-specific conditions.
  • For a digital copy, consider storage space and whether a required download is involved, as stated on the product listing.

Compare two or more games on the same criteria

Once you have a shortlist, put the information in a small comparison table. This avoids choosing a game simply because it appeared first in a search result.

Comparison point What to record Why it matters
Release date Local date, region, and edition Shows recency without mixing markets or versions.
Genre and play style Store genre plus a plain-language description of the core play Two games in one genre can provide very different experiences.
Regular price Current Nintendo listing price in the account’s currency Provides a baseline after a promotion ends.
Sale price Discounted price and sale end date, if shown Separates a temporary deal from the normal cost.
Format Digital, physical, or both Affects resale, gifting, storage, delivery, and availability.
Platform edition Original Switch, Switch 2, or Switch 2 Edition Prevents buying an edition that does not match the console or desired features.
Region Store country and currency Release dates, prices, and availability can differ by region.

If a value is not displayed on the listing you are using, mark it as “not stated” rather than inferring it from another region or edition.

Digital versus physical Nintendo Switch games

The better format depends on how you use your games and what is available in your market.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Consideration Digital version Physical version
Where you buy Nintendo eShop listing for the account’s region Retailer inventory, which varies by country and store
Resale or lending Normally tied to the purchasing account and not a cartridge to hand over A cartridge can be gifted, lent, or resold where local rules and retailer practices allow
Convenience Switch between installed games without changing cartridges Requires the cartridge when you want to play that copy
Availability Depends on the eShop listing and account region Depends on stock, retailer, edition, and region
Price checking Use the live Nintendo listing and Sales and Deals page Compare current retailer prices, delivery, taxes, and edition details

When physical makes more sense

A physical Nintendo Switch game can be a better fit if you want a cartridge, expect to resell or gift the game, or prefer not to make the purchase permanently associated with one account. Physical pricing and inventory vary by retailer and region, so verify the exact edition and local availability rather than assuming a cartridge costs less than the digital version.

When digital makes more sense

Digital is convenient when you want immediate access through the eShop, want to switch games without carrying cartridges, or find a current digital sale. Check the sale end date and account region before relying on a promotional price.

Check compatibility before buying either format

Read the platform label carefully. A listing may describe the original Switch game, a Switch 2 game, or a Switch 2 Edition. Confirm that the edition matches your console and that any enhanced features you expect are included in that specific listing.

Three practical search examples

Example: a co-op game under a set budget

  1. On the Switch HOME Menu, open Nintendo eShop and select Search.
  2. Enter a broad keyword related to the activity or genre.
  3. Set Genre to the closest available category.
  4. Set Price Range to the budget limit.
  5. Open the remaining results and remove bundles, incompatible editions, and games whose listing does not describe the type of co-op you want.
  6. Check Sales and Deals for a temporary lower price, recording the end date shown.

Example: the newest strategy games in your country

  1. Open Nintendo’s web Games catalogue and browse its strategy-related genre section.
  2. Use the Switch software filters to exclude other platforms.
  3. Browse recent releases and open each candidate’s product page.
  4. Record the local release date and whether the page is for original Switch, Switch 2, or a Switch 2 Edition.
  5. Check the current regular and sale prices in your region.

Example: deciding between a digital deal and a cartridge

  1. Record the digital price and promotion end date from Nintendo’s listing.
  2. Check the physical listing for the same game, edition, and region.
  3. Add delivery and other applicable costs to the physical price.
  4. Choose digital for immediate, account-based access or physical if cartridge ownership, gifting, or resale is more important.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

  • Using a date from the wrong country: verify the local Nintendo listing because release dates may differ by region.
  • Assuming every eShop game unlocks at midnight: the publisher controls the exact release time, and timing varies by title.
  • Treating a sale price as permanent: record the promotion end date and recheck it before purchase.
  • Comparing different editions: match the base game, bundle, Switch 2 Edition, or other edition on both sides of the comparison.
  • Assuming a genre label explains the whole game: read the product description and identify the core play style.
  • Comparing currencies as if they were identical: prices, taxes, availability, and release dates are regional.
  • Assuming physical stock is universal: retailer inventory and pricing vary by market.
  • Ignoring the platform label: confirm whether the listing is for original Switch, Switch 2, or a Switch 2 Edition before buying.

A repeatable checklist for finding the right game

  1. Define the starting point: title, keyword, genre, newest release, or budget.
  2. Use eShop Search for a known keyword, or Nintendo’s web catalogue for genre-led discovery.
  3. Apply Genre and Price Range filters where available.
  4. For a date-led search, browse recent releases and verify the local date on each product page.
  5. Check the publisher-controlled eShop release time if launch timing matters.
  6. Review regular price, sale price, and sale end date on Nintendo’s Sales and Deals page.
  7. Compare digital and physical options, including delivery, stock, resale, gifting, and account ownership.
  8. Confirm region, currency, console compatibility, and edition before checkout.
