Hideo Kojima’s cameo appears during The Heist, the first major heist mission in Cyberpunk 2077. At Konpeki Plaza, pause in the lobby instead of going straight to the elevator. Enter the hotel bar, walk to its rear booth or couch area, and look for Oshima, the NPC based on Kojima. Speak with him for a short exchange, then return to the elevator objective.
Quick answer: where is Hideo Kojima?
The cameo is inside the Konpeki Plaza hotel during The Heist. After entering the lobby with Jackie and passing security, choose to explore rather than immediately following the objective to the elevator. The bar is an optional detour. If you follow Jackie directly to the elevator, it is easy to walk past the cameo without seeing it. The exact left-right position can look different depending on your camera angle, but the reliable landmark is the rear seating area of the bar: a booth or couch near the back corner.

What you need before searching
Reach the correct mission
You cannot find the cameo during the opening street missions or in a free-roam visit to another part of Night City. Progress through the main story until The Heist, the mission in which V and Jackie enter Konpeki Plaza for the planned operation.
Know that the detour is optional
Konpeki Plaza presents the elevator as the obvious next objective. The cameo is placed away from that direct route, so the important decision is simply to explore the lobby before taking the elevator. When Jackie moves ahead, use the time to inspect the bar instead of treating the elevator marker as mandatory.
Turn on subtitles if you want every line
The interaction itself is short, but nearby patrons and ambient conversation can be difficult to follow without subtitles. Enabling subtitles in the game’s settings makes the exchange easier to read, especially when characters around Oshima are speaking Japanese.

Step-by-step route to Oshima
- Start The Heist. Continue the main story until V and Jackie arrive at Konpeki Plaza.
- Enter Konpeki Plaza. Follow the mission route through security and reception with Jackie.
- Stop in the lobby. Do not call or enter the elevator as soon as the objective points you there. Let Jackie move ahead or select the option to explore when it appears.
- Find the hotel bar. From the lobby, enter the bar area rather than staying on the direct path to the elevator.
- Walk past the main counter. Continue toward the rear seating. Guides describe this as a back booth, rear couch, or back corner; these descriptions refer to the same area.
- Look for Oshima. He is seated with several other people. The name “Oshima” identifies the Kojima-inspired NPC when you get close enough to interact.
- Trigger the conversation. Move close until the interaction prompt appears, then speak with him and listen to the short exchange.
- Return to the mission route. After the conversation, leave the seating area, go back through the lobby, and take the elevator to continue The Heist.
How to recognize the correct spot
Use the bar’s layout, not a compass direction
Descriptions that call the location “back-left” or “rear-right” can seem contradictory because they depend on where V is standing and which way the camera is facing. Do not use left or right as your primary guide. Enter the bar, pass the main serving area, and search the seating against the far side of the room.
Look for a seated group
Oshima is not standing alone near the entrance or the elevator. He sits on a couch or in a booth surrounded by other patrons. If you only scan the lobby or the bar counter, you have not gone far enough. Continue toward the back seating until you see a cluster of guests.
Confirm the name before moving on
The decisive clue is the interaction label: the NPC is called Oshima. This is the in-game name used for Kojima’s cameo. Once that name appears and the prompt is available, you are at the right seat.

What happens when you speak with Oshima?
The scene is a short optional conversation rather than a long quest or a separate objective. Approach the seat and activate the prompt; the game handles the exchange in place. One part of the dialogue can involve a question about a game pitch, which is a nod to Kojima’s work as a game creator.
You do not need to choose a special dialogue path to make the cameo count. The important action is reaching the rear seating and starting the conversation. After the lines finish, the mission remains active and the normal objective continues at the elevator.
Explore the bar first or take the elevator?

There is no meaningful alternative route once you are inside the plaza. The practical difference is whether you take the optional bar detour before advancing the mission. If you want to see the cameo, exploration is the safer choice.

Why players miss the cameo
The elevator objective draws attention away from the bar
The Heist gives you a clear next step in the lobby, and moving toward that marker feels natural. Because the bar does not need to be visited to finish the mission, players who follow the objective without looking around can leave the area before noticing Oshima.
The seating is not at the counter
Checking only the bartenders or the central tables will not reveal the cameo. Oshima is in the rear seating, separated from the main counter. Walk deeper into the room and inspect the booth or couch area.
Camera orientation changes location descriptions
One guide may call the seat back-left while another calls it a rear corner. These are not different locations. The room’s orientation changes as you turn, so use the back-of-bar landmark and the group of seated patrons instead of a fixed compass instruction.

Ambient dialogue can obscure the interaction
When several characters are talking, the brief exchange may be easy to overlook. Subtitles let you follow the nearby Japanese dialogue and make it clearer when Oshima’s conversation is active.
If you walked straight to the elevator
If you advanced without entering the bar, the cameo will not appear in the route you just took. The practical way to see it is to load an earlier save from the lobby or experience The Heist again and make the detour before using the elevator. The key timing is the lobby visit: reach the bar before progressing upstairs.
When checking an earlier save, do not rely on the mission marker to lead you to Oshima. Stop when Jackie moves ahead, enter the bar manually, and search the rear seating. The NPC’s name and the interaction prompt are the final confirmation that you found him.
A reliable checklist
- You have reached the main-story mission The Heist.
- You entered Konpeki Plaza with Jackie and passed reception or security.
- You paused in the lobby instead of immediately taking the elevator.
- You entered the hotel bar.
- You walked beyond the main counter toward the rear booth or couch.
- You found a seated group of patrons.
- The NPC’s interaction name is Oshima.
- You spoke with him and saw the brief conversation, using subtitles if needed.
- You returned to the elevator objective to continue the mission.
