The reliable way to find paths and landmarks in Hillthorn is to treat each Clue card as a lead, not a collectible. First inventory what you can actually see, then choose the action that tests the most specific connection, record every change, and carry unresolved relationships into a later day. This matters because actions advance the clock and the game deliberately offers more threads than one run can comfortably follow.
Hillthorn is a wordless, card-based investigation of a disappearance in a secluded mountain community. Its official preview names the village, manor, lonely house, inn, inn room and closed school, but no authoritative source publishes a complete landmark checklist or a guaranteed route order. The method below will help you uncover every route available in your build without treating an unverified community sequence as universal.
What “every path” and “every landmark” mean in Hillthorn
Hillthorn does not present a conventional open-world map with pins waiting to be collected. The story is revealed through visual Clue cards. A card can show a person, object, terrain feature, trace, barrier, weather detail or recurring symbol. Depending on what the card represents, it may offer Investigate, Explore or Talk.

It is a route hypothesis supported by one or more cards: a trail leading away from a damaged gate, a track associated with a person, or a blocked entrance that becomes meaningful after another relationship is established. A landmark is a named place or a location that organizes several clues. Finding a landmark does not automatically mean you have exhausted its evidence; the important question is which people, objects and traces connect to it.

The available official material establishes several locations, but it does not establish a complete list of all paths, a definitive order for visiting them, or a guaranteed solution for every lock and entrance. Use the documented places as anchors and let your current cards determine the next test.
How Hillthorn’s clue and time systems work
Cards replace spoken exposition
The Steam description explains that eerie details are revealed entirely through Clue cards. There is no conventional dialogue tree that tells you where to go next. A visual detail that looks incidental can be the link between two locations, while a seemingly important landscape card may remain unproductive until you know who or what belongs there.
Every action spends part of the clock
The game warns that “the clock is ticking” and that there are too many threads to follow with too little time. In practical terms, clicking every available option is a poor mapping strategy. A detour can consume the opportunity to test a more informative lead on the same day. Choose actions for the question they answer, not because they are visible.
Knowledge can outlast a single attempt
Developer material describes knowledge persisting across days. Some items may fade, while shortcuts or insights can remain. A first run is therefore useful even when it does not reach every place: you are learning which people, objects and routes belong together. Revisit an ambiguous card after a new relationship is known instead of assuming that an earlier dead end was permanent.
The lead–test–record cycle
Use this cycle for every new card. It prevents two common mistakes: confusing an interpretation with an observation and repeating the same unproductive branch on a later day.
1. Inventory before interpreting
Write down only what is visible before deciding what it means. Separate the two columns in your notes:

This distinction matters because a hypothesis can be wrong without making the underlying observation useless. Record people, objects, terrain, weather, marks, traces, barriers and repeated motifs. Note whether a detail is displaced, damaged, unusually placed or repeated elsewhere.

2. Choose the connection with the highest information value
Prioritize a lead that can connect two cards or a card to a named location. The strongest candidates are usually:
- A distinctive person whose presence could identify a route or building.
- A damaged or displaced object that differs from the surrounding scene.
- A trace that crosses or follows a route.
- A barrier associated with an unusual item, mark or person.
- A repeated symbol that appears in more than one context.
A generic mountain view can wait until another clue gives it context. The goal is not to inspect the prettiest card first; it is to gain the most usable information per action.
3. Match the action to the question
- Investigate: choose this for a concrete object, mark, trace or other detail that can be examined closely.
- Explore: choose this when terrain, a visible route or an entrance may reveal another location.
- Talk: choose this when a character can test a specific question or clarify a relationship.
The available action is itself a signal about what the game considers testable. Do not use Talk as a general-purpose hint request or Explore simply because a trail is on screen; tie the action to a written question.
4. Record every state change
After an action, update your notes immediately. Record new cards, newly available actions, opened or blocked routes, changed descriptions and relationships that became stronger or weaker. A compact ledger can look like this:

Mark a lead as unresolved, tested or closed for now. “Closed for now” is different from “solved”: it tells you to carry the thread into a later day rather than spend another action repeating it.
5. Revisit ambiguous cards on a later day
When a card produces no useful result, preserve its observations and the exact action you tried. Once a new person, object or location is known, return to that card. Persistent knowledge and shortcuts can change the value of an old scene even when the physical item that first drew your attention is no longer available.
6. Treat wrong paths as route information
Winding Trails has feedback for wrong paths in the Steam update notes. A wrong turn is therefore evidence about the route network, not necessarily a permanent failure. Record which clue led you there, what feedback appeared and which branch remains untested. This keeps you from re-entering the same branch without a new reason.

Documented landmarks and how to work them into your map
The following places are named in official preview or update material. They are documented anchors, not a promise that this is the complete location list in the final game.

The village
Begin by building relationships in the village rather than racing toward a distant landmark. A resident, object or local trace can provide the context that turns a later terrain card into a meaningful route. When a village card offers Talk, write the question you need answered; broad conversations consume time without improving your map.
The manor
The manor is officially named, but no complete access sequence is established in the available material. Treat any apparent gate, path or key as a lead to test, not proof of the final solution. A useful manor entry in your ledger should identify the card that first connected the place to a person, object or trace and list every blocked or opened state you observed.
The lonely house
The lonely house is another named location whose exact card relationships can vary with the build. When you encounter it, inventory nearby traces and unusual objects before spending an action on a generic view. If a person is linked to the house, test that relationship first; it can be more informative than repeatedly exploring the same approach.
The inn and inn room
Keep the inn and inn room as separate nodes in your notes. The Steam update states that moving between them no longer consumes in-game time. That change makes an available room transition a useful place to check a newly established relationship without sacrificing a clock action, but it does not make every inn clue automatically relevant. Record which card opened the transition and what changed after you moved.
The closed school
The preview explicitly says the school requires finding a way in. That wording confirms a gating problem but not its solution. Look for a barrier, object, mark or person that can explain access. If an apparent key or entrance does not produce a new state, keep the observation and postpone the hypothesis rather than burning the day on repeated attempts. A guide that claims a universal school lock sequence without identifying the current build is overstating the evidence.
Winding Trails
For each branch, write the preceding clue and the result of the exploration. When the game reports a wrong path, label that branch as tested and preserve the feedback. A branch becomes worth retrying only when a new relationship, persistent insight or changed card supplies a different reason to do so.

A practical first-run plan
There is no official route order, so use an adaptive plan that protects the clock while maximizing connections.
- Start with a visual inventory. List people, objects, traces, barriers, terrain and repeated motifs on the opening cards.
- Pick one concrete question. Examples include “What caused this damage?”, “Who is associated with this object?” or “Does this trace continue toward a named place?”
- Test the most specific card. Prefer an unusual object, trace or person over a generic landscape.
- Update your map. Add every new card and mark routes as open, blocked, untested or wrong-path.
- Follow one connection until it yields a state change. Stop when the next action would merely repeat an observation.
- Carry unresolved threads forward. Save the card, hypothesis and failed action for a later day rather than trying random alternatives.
- Use the next run to test relationships. Persistent knowledge can make an earlier ambiguous card actionable.
This plan is intentionally not a claimed solution path. It is a way to discover the route order that your version presents while minimizing wasted actions.

When several paths are visible, score them against the same five questions:

| Information per action | Will this action reveal a new card, relationship or route state? |
| Connection strength | Does it connect a person, object and location, rather than only showing scenery? |
| Persistence | Could it open a shortcut or produce knowledge useful on a later day? |
| Clock cost | How much time does the action consume, and is the expected information worth it? |
| Landmark relevance | Does the lead plausibly address access to a named place such as the school or manor? |
This is a decision framework, not an official ranking. A lower-scoring route can become the right choice after a new clue changes its context.

No new card appears after an investigation
Check whether you investigated a generic detail instead of a distinctive one. Return to the ledger, identify the nearest unusual object, trace or person, and test the relationship that could connect two cards. If the same action has already produced the same result, mark it closed for now.
A route is visible but Explore does not advance it
Look for a prerequisite relationship. The route may need a person, object or trace to give it context. Record the blocked state, then investigate the most specific adjacent clue before exploring again.

Stop opening unrelated branches. Choose the lead with the highest information value, complete that test, and preserve all other observations for the next day. Because knowledge can persist, a deliberate early stop is better than a series of random actions.

The school or manor still appears inaccessible
Do not assume that a visible barrier is the final puzzle. List every associated person, object and mark, including clues discovered in other locations. The official material confirms the school is gated but does not publish its solution, and it gives no complete manor sequence.
You took a wrong turn in Winding Trails
Save the branch, the clue that led to it and the feedback you received. Retry only when a new card or persistent insight changes the premise. The wrong-path message is part of your map.
Demo, release timing and version caveats
The free Hillthorn Demo released on February 19, 2026. It contains a few locations, puzzles and an overview of the game loop, so a route observed in the demo should not automatically be treated as the full-game map.
The Steam listing initially showed a planned November 2026 full release. A later dated Steam Community announcement named November 10, 2026 and additional platforms including Steam, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. As of October 19, 2026, that date should still be checked against the current storefront before you rely on a release-specific route guide. Platform and build differences can change card states, wording or access conditions.
Why a complete checklist is not available yet
The official descriptions establish the card system, time pressure, persistent knowledge and several named places, but they do not publish a complete landmark count, path count or ending count. They do describe multiple endings, which is another reason not to assume that one successful route is the only valid investigation.
For a trustworthy personal checklist, create one row for every location or route card you actually encounter. Include the first clue that pointed there, actions tried, state changes, unresolved questions and the day on which you last tested it. That record will be more reliable for your build than an unverified list that claims to cover every possible branch.
The Bottom Line
To find every available path and landmark in Hillthorn, map relationships rather than scenery: inventory each card, test the most specific lead, record state changes, and revisit unresolved cards after knowledge carries into a later day. Use the village, manor, lonely house, inn, inn room, closed school and Winding Trails as documented anchors, but treat any route order or access solution not confirmed in your current build as a hypothesis.
