Do not enter the sewer exit until you have finished searching Napoleon’s Prison. Chapter 10: Shackled is a one-way area in the City of Orphans: once William escapes through the sewers, you cannot return. Before leaving, collect both Prison Warden’s Journal parts, the Armoury Key, William’s confiscated equipment, the Chapel Key, and the deceased-prisoners letter. After the escape, post that letter on the city notice board beside the Lantern to complete The Choir and receive a Remnant’s Return.
The route below follows the prison in a safe order, identifies what is required for the side quest, and separates optional loot from evidence that can be permanently missed.
What can be missed in Chapter 10: Shackled?
Chapter 10: Shackled takes place in Napoleon’s Prison, a temporary jail section reached during the City of Orphans chapter. PowerPyx describes the quest as optional and warns that you cannot return to the area after leaving it. In practical terms, the sewer passage is the prison’s point of no return. You can ignore the evidence and make a quick escape, but any journal, key, letter, or prison chest left behind will be inaccessible after the transition to the city.

Death is less final than leaving. The Chapter 10 walkthrough reports that dying inside the jail returns William to his cell, allowing another attempt. That makes death a reset within the prison; crossing the sewer exit is the irreversible decision.
Prison collectible checklist
Use this checklist before entering the sewer. The first five entries are gathered inside the prison; the final action occurs after the escape.

The prison also contains optional pickups. They are not part of the required evidence chain, but they matter if your goal is a complete sweep rather than a fast escape.

Complete route through Napoleon’s Prison
1. Leave the cell and take the first journal
Begin by following the linear path from William’s cell. The early route is deliberately constrained, so keep moving forward until you reach a room with a horn on the left. Enter that room rather than continuing past it. Prison Warden’s Journal – Part One is there.
This is the first easily missed evidence item because it sits in a side room along an otherwise straightforward opening. Pick it up before advancing toward the upper floor. If you are checking your inventory manually, verify the full name, including “Part One”; it is separate from the second journal.
2. Reach the upper patrol room
Continue along the main route to the upper hallway and interact with the door at its end. The door leads to a large patrol room. This room is the navigation hub for the prison’s upper-level collectibles.
Look for the combination of stairs, crates, and scaffolding. Use those objects to climb toward the wooden rafters. The intended route is vertical: the Armoury Key is not on the lower floor, and searching the downstairs rooms first will not reveal it.
3. Cross the rafters to the kitchen
Follow the rafters toward the center of the patrol room. From the rafters, drop into the upper-floor kitchen. The kitchen is the landmark for two separate pickups, so do not leave immediately after taking the first one.

On a table in the kitchen, collect the Armoury Key. This key is the item that lets you reclaim William’s equipment. Its position is easy to misunderstand because the Armoury itself is downstairs while the key is upstairs.
4. Recover William’s weapons and equipment
With the Armoury Key in your inventory, return to the lower level and locate the Armoury door. Use the key, then open the red chest inside. The chest contains William’s confiscated weapons and equipment.
Recovering the gear is not one of The Choir’s evidence interactions, but it is the practical reason to make the upper-floor detour before escaping. A player who follows only the shortest route can leave the prison without it and cannot come back to retrieve it.
5. Take Prison Warden’s Journal – Part Two
Return to the upper-floor kitchen area and search the small room beside the kitchen key pickup. Collect Prison Warden’s Journal – Part Two there.
The two journal parts are in different rooms: Part One is in the horn room on the opening route, while Part Two is beside the kitchen after the rafters traversal. Treat them as separate checklist entries rather than assuming one pickup completes the journal evidence.
6. Find the Chapel Key in the memory room
From the kitchen side of the upper floor, cross to the opposite side. Enter the room containing a memory and take the Key to the Chapel from the table.
The key is not in the chapel itself and is not downstairs. If you reach the chapel door without it, return to the upper floor and search the memory room before attempting to continue through the sewer route.
7. Unlock the chapel and take the prisoner list
Use the Chapel Key at the chapel door. Inside, move behind the bodies and search the counter. The evidence item is Letter to Headquarters – A List of Deceased Prisoners.

This letter is the final required prison pickup for The Choir. Taking it does not complete the quest immediately. Keep it in your inventory while you finish the escape and reach the city notice board.
8. Escape through the sewer and post the letter
Continue through the sewer exit to the City of Orphans. Once you are back in the city, find the Lantern and interact with the notice board beside it. Post the deceased-prisoners letter there.
The notice-board interaction is the completion trigger for The Choir. The reward is a Remnant’s Return. If the quest is still listed as incomplete after reaching the city, check that you picked up the letter from the chapel and interacted with the board rather than merely walking past it.

Two optional detours are reported in the prison walkthrough and are separate from The Choir’s required evidence. They are worth collecting if you are clearing every room or need the associated resources.
Silver Lockpick and Eternal Catalyst Clot
One hanging prisoner can be burned using Fire Transmutation. Doing so reveals a Silver Lockpick. The lockpick opens a nearby cell containing an Eternal Catalyst Clot worth 5,000 Catalysts.
This sequence has two distinct actions: use Fire Transmutation on the hanging prisoner, then use the Silver Lockpick on the nearby cell. Finding the lockpick alone does not grant the Catalyst Clot, and neither item is required to post the deceased-prisoners letter.
Chests behind Nephtoglobin weak points
Additional optional chests are positioned behind Nephtoglobin weak points. The reported contents include Distilled Blade Material and a Remnant’s Return consumable.

If you are escaping under pressure, they can be skipped without blocking The Choir, but the area cannot be revisited afterward.

Escape-only route versus completionist route

Choose the completionist route before you enter the sewer, not after arriving in the city. The city notice board is available only for turning in the letter; it does not reopen Napoleon’s Prison.
How to avoid the most common mistakes
Leaving before checking the sewer
The sewer is the irreversible boundary. Make a final inventory check at the entrance. Confirm both journal parts, the Armoury Key, the equipment chest, the Chapel Key, and the deceased-prisoners letter before proceeding.
Searching downstairs for the Armoury Key
The Armoury Key is upstairs in the kitchen. Reach the upper patrol room, climb with the stairs, crates, and scaffolding, cross the wooden rafters, and drop into the kitchen. The lower-floor Armoury contains the red chest, not the key.
Assuming the chapel letter finishes The Choir
The chapel pickup is only the evidence step. The quest completes after the letter is posted on the notice board beside the Lantern in the city. Plan for that second interaction after the sewer transition.
Confusing the two journal locations
Part One is in the horn room on the initial route. Part Two is in the small room beside the kitchen key pickup. If one part is missing, revisit the corresponding landmark while you are still inside the prison.
Forgetting optional loot after moving on
The Silver Lockpick sequence and the Nephtoglobin-linked chests are not needed for The Choir, so they are easy to postpone. Postponement becomes permanent once you escape. Decide whether your run is evidence-only or a full resource clear before passing the exit.

You died before collecting everything
Death in the jail returns William to his cell. Restart from the cell and repeat the route, checking the horn room first and then using the upper patrol room as the hub for the kitchen, second journal, and Chapel Key. Because the prison has a fixed one-way layout, keeping a written checklist prevents another missed pickup on the retry.

You reached the city without the quest reward
Verify that you collected Letter to Headquarters – A List of Deceased Prisoners from the counter behind the bodies in the chapel. Then locate the notice board beside the Lantern and interact with it. Merely arriving in the city, or carrying the letter without using the board, does not complete The Choir.

You opened the prison exit too soon
There is no reported return path after escaping through the sewers. Any missed prison collectible must be obtained on a previous save or a later playthrough. The city section can still be continued, but it cannot be used to re-enter Napoleon’s Prison.
How these collectibles fit into the wider game
The prison items are one small part of the wider completion target. iTechGuides reports PowerPyx’s broader game totals for 2026 as 11 main quests, 10 regions, 20 side quests, and 89 collectible locations. The same report breaks those collectibles into 55 Amber items, six max-level Upgrade Materials, 21 Ferrofluid Power Upgrades, and seven Ferrofluid Quantity Upgrades.
Those figures describe the whole game, not Chapter 10 or Napoleon’s Prison alone. They should not be used as a prison-specific count. The prison route above covers the evidence and pickups identified for this one-way section, including the optional Silver Lockpick, Eternal Catalyst Clot, Distilled Blade Material, and Remnant’s Return chest detours.

Can I return to Napoleon’s Prison after escaping?
No. The sewer escape is the point of no return for this section. Missed prison items require an earlier save or another playthrough.

What do I do with the deceased-prisoners letter?
