Start with Pocket Gamer’s current 12th Pocket Gamer Awards highlights page, then copy the game’s exact title and the publisher shown beside it. Search that title and publisher in Google Play on Android or Apple’s App Store on iPhone. Before installing, match the publisher, screenshots, age rating, device requirements, price and in-app purchases, country availability, and recent update information. A missing result is not automatically a worldwide delisting: store catalogues and release support can differ by country and device.
Use the 12th Pocket Gamer Awards page as your starting list
The Pocket Gamer Awards are fan-voted mobile-game awards. Pocket Gamer describes them as a celebration of mobile games, organised by industry experts but voted on by fans. The programme has been running within Pocket Gamer’s wider mobile and handheld coverage since 2006. The awards page, rather than a general web search, is the safest way to establish which games were nominated or shortlisted for the cycle you mean.
The current cycle is the 12th Pocket Gamer Awards. Its new-release eligibility window is 1 October 2024 through 30 September 2025. That date range applies to categories that require a new release; categories that recognise an established game can draw on a wider back catalogue. A title can therefore appear in the awards material even when it was not first released during that window.
Open the 12th-awards highlights page, select a title, and copy its spelling exactly. Pocket Gamer’s page includes repeated category entries and, in at least one case, two different renderings of the same game name. Treat the page’s title as the search string rather than silently “correcting” punctuation, numbers or a subtitle.

Titles and publisher labels shown for the current cycle
The highlights page names the following games or game entries. Publisher labels are reproduced only where the page identifies one; a blank or unassigned label is not evidence that the game has no publisher.

The highlights page also contains standalone publisher or category entries such as Scopely and Supercell. Those labels are not themselves game titles. Do not search for a publisher name and assume that every result is a Pocket Gamer nominee; use the specific game entry and its publisher together.
Find a nominated game on Android
- Open the 12th-awards highlights page. Select the category or highlight containing the game you want.
- Copy the exact title and publisher. Preserve punctuation, subtitles, numerals and capitalization. For example, keep “Grand Mountain Adventure 2” distinct from “Grand Mountain Adventure”.
- Open Google Play. Search for the exact title, then add the publisher name if several results look similar. Searching the publisher as a second term is a practical way to reduce clone and fan-app results.
- Open the candidate listing rather than installing from the results page. Read the developer or publisher field, screenshots, description, age rating, current version, update date, price and in-app-purchase disclosure.
- Check compatibility. Google Play can show whether the app is available for the signed-in device. Review the Android version requirement, supported architecture or device notes when supplied, and the amount of storage needed for the download and any additional in-game data.
- Check country availability. If the listing says it is unavailable in your country, do not infer that the game has been removed everywhere. Availability can be limited by territory, rollout timing, licensing or account region.
- Install from the official Google Play listing only. Avoid APK mirrors and listings whose developer, screenshots or package description do not match the Pocket Gamer entry. A sideloaded copy can be modified, out of date or unsafe.
- After installation, allow the game to update. Some mobile games require a large first-run download, a publisher account or a persistent internet connection. Check the game’s own notices before assuming that it can be played offline.
Find a nominated game on iPhone
- Return to the Pocket Gamer entry. Copy the exact title and the publisher displayed for that category.
- Open Apple’s App Store. Paste the title into search and add the publisher when the result set includes older games, similarly named apps or unofficial companions.
- Inspect the App Store product page. Match the developer name, icon, screenshots, age rating, supported iOS version, current version, update date, price and in-app-purchase information.
- Read the compatibility section. The page may identify a minimum iOS version, supported iPhone or iPad models, language support and the app’s size. Your device must meet those requirements even if the app appears in search.
- Confirm the storefront region. App Store catalogues are tied to the Apple Account’s country or region. A title may be visible in one storefront and absent in another, or may arrive at different times.
- Download from the official App Store page. Do not use a third-party download site or an enterprise installation profile for a consumer game. If the page is unavailable, use the publisher’s official site or the Pocket Gamer page to look for a platform note.
- Check the first launch requirements. A free download can still require an account, online authentication, a large data pack or optional purchases. These conditions are normally described in the listing or during setup.
How to authenticate the right listing before you install
Match the publisher or developer
The title is the first filter, not the final proof. Compare the store’s developer field with the publisher shown on Pocket Gamer. A mismatch can be legitimate when a parent company, regional distributor or platform partner publishes the mobile version, but it deserves an explanation in the listing. If the name, icon and screenshots point to a different product, stop and investigate.

Compare screenshots and the description
Look for the same interface, characters, logo and gameplay shown in the awards material or the publisher’s own description. A listing that uses a familiar name but unrelated screenshots is not the game you are trying to find. Read the description for platform-specific wording, launch-region restrictions and whether the app is a companion, test build or full game.
Read ratings and age guidance
Age ratings are assigned by the storefront and can vary by region. Check the stated content descriptors as well as the headline age number, particularly for games with chat, online interaction, simulated gambling mechanics or user-generated content. Ratings do not establish quality or awards status; they are a suitability and compliance check.
Check price, subscriptions and in-app purchases
A free download may monetise through consumable purchases, permanent unlocks, a subscription, advertising or a combination. A paid download may still offer optional purchases. Read the store’s price and purchase disclosures for your account region, because currency and tax-inclusive totals can differ. Do not infer a game’s business model from its appearance on an awards list.

Check version, support and storage
Record the current version and the date of the latest update before installing. A recent update is not a guarantee of continued support, but it helps distinguish an active listing from an abandoned copy. Check the initial download size and allow additional free storage for patches and downloaded assets. The exact requirement is listing- and device-specific; the Pocket Gamer highlights page does not provide a single storage figure for all nominees.

Check account and network requirements
Some titles can launch offline after installation, while others require an internet connection for login, matchmaking, cloud saves or anti-cheat services. The store description, permissions and first-run screens usually reveal this. If you need travel or airplane play, test the game once with connectivity disabled before relying on it.
What to do when a search returns no game
Repeat the search with the exact award spelling
Remove extra words such as “mobile game” and start with the title copied from Pocket Gamer. Then add the publisher. This is especially important for “Warhammer 40k Tacticus” versus “Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus”, for “Grand Mountain Adventure 2” versus the original, and for “Arknights: Endfield” versus Arknights.

Check the storefront country and age settings
Sign-in region, parental controls and device compatibility can hide a listing. Confirm that the Google Play country or Apple Account storefront is the one you intend to use and that restrictions are not filtering the result.
Look for a platform note
Use the publisher’s official site or the Pocket Gamer page to see whether the title is announced for Android, iPhone, both platforms or a limited release. Do not treat a missing search result as proof of a universal delisting: regional launches, staged rollouts and compatibility rules can all produce a blank result.

Awards pages cover a particular period, while store status changes. A game can be renamed, withdrawn in one territory, removed from older operating-system versions or replaced by a new listing. If you revisit a 2024 finalist, verify the current store page again instead of assuming its former availability still applies.

Compare nominees using facts the store can actually establish
Pocket Gamer’s nomination tells you that a title was considered in an awards category; it does not provide a universal installation specification. Build a comparison from each current Android or iPhone listing using these axes:

Understand the 12th cycle alongside the 2024 awards
The 12th cycle is not the same release pool as the 2024 cycle. The 2024 awards accepted new releases from 1 October 2023 through 30 September 2024, moved from nominations to a shortlist vote, and held a winners event on 6 December. The 12th cycle uses the later 1 October 2024 through 30 September 2025 new-release window and held voting before an online winners event in February.
That difference explains why an older title can appear on a 2024 highlights page but not on the current page, and why a game encountered in a search result may belong to a different award year. Always record the cycle name and page date when making a personal shortlist.

The 2024 highlights material includes Brawl Stars, Eggy Party, Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus, Balatro, Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom, Underground Blossom, Vampire Survivors, Potion Permit, Sea of Conquest, eFootball, Little Nightmares, Roia, Murder Mystery 2, Destiny: Rising, Marvel Contest of Champions, Stumble Guys and Bloons TD 6 among its winners and finalists. Those examples are useful for understanding the earlier cycle, but their current store availability and support still need to be checked afresh.
Do not confuse these awards with the Mobile Games Awards
Pocket Gamer explicitly distinguishes the Pocket Gamer Awards from the Mobile Games Awards run by PocketGamer.biz. They are separate programmes with different pages, categories and selection processes. If a search result points to a Mobile Games Awards page, return to the Pocket Gamer 12th-awards highlights page for a question specifically about “Pocket Gamer Awards nominated games”.
A reliable shortlist workflow
- Choose the cycle. Start with the 12th page for the current list, or the 2024 page when you are researching that earlier release window.
- Capture identity. Write down the exact Pocket Gamer title, publisher label and category. Keep both spellings when the page presents a duplicate or variant entry.
- Check both stores if you use more than one device. Search Google Play and Apple’s App Store separately; a result on one platform does not prove a result on the other.
- Authenticate. Match developer, icon, screenshots, description and age rating before you consider installing.
- Record practical constraints. Note price, in-app purchases, account and network requirements, minimum operating system, storage, region and latest update.
- Install one official listing. Use only the platform’s own install button and let the first-run update finish over a trusted connection.
- Recheck before returning later. Store status, operating-system support and regional availability can change after the award cycle.
Common mistakes and their fixes
- Searching only a shortened title: Add the subtitle, number or punctuation exactly as Pocket Gamer prints it.
- Assuming a publisher entry is a game: Scopely and Supercell appear as publisher or category labels in the highlights material; select a specific game entry before searching.
- Installing the first result: Compare the developer, screenshots and description with the award entry.
- Treating “free” as “no cost”: Read the in-app-purchase, advertising and subscription disclosures.
- Assuming Android and iPhone availability match: Verify each storefront independently.
- Using an APK or unofficial profile because the store result is missing: Check the publisher’s official site, the Pocket Gamer page and your account region instead.
- Confusing award cycles: Record whether the page is the 12th cycle or the 2024 cycle and use its corresponding release window.
- Assuming nomination guarantees current support: Inspect the live listing’s version, update date and compatibility requirements.
What you should have before pressing Install
For each game, your notes should contain the exact Pocket Gamer title, the publisher label, the award cycle, the Android and/or iPhone listing, the verified developer, your storefront region, minimum operating-system requirement, storage estimate, price and purchase model, account or connection requirements, and the listing’s latest update information. That small checklist turns an awards highlight into a safe, reproducible installation decision without relying on an unofficial copy or a stale search result.
