A delisted Final Fantasy game is not automatically gone forever. Delisting usually removes a specific edition from a specific storefront; an official release may still exist on another store, on disc or cartridge, or in an account that already owns it. The safest approach is to identify the exact game and edition, confirm its platform and region on Square Enix’s catalog, then check authorized digital stores, physical releases, and any account or server requirements.
This guide explains how to buy or access delisted entries legally, what ownership means on older PlayStation hardware, why online titles such as FINAL FANTASY XIV work differently, and how to avoid paying for an edition that will not run on your console.

What “delisted” means for a Final Fantasy game
“Delisted” describes a store listing, not necessarily the game itself. A title can disappear from one regional storefront while remaining available in another region, on a different platform, in a bundle, or as a physical release. Editions are separate products too: a base game, remaster, remake, expansion, and console generation may each have different licensing and availability.
Do not infer that a game is unavailable everywhere from a missing search result. First record the exact title, subtitle, edition, platform, region, language, and whether you want a digital or physical copy. Availability, stock and resale prices can change quickly, so verify those details immediately before paying.
#1 Best Overall
- Adventure awaits you beyond the horizon in FINAL FANTASY XIV.
- This product is a digital 60-Day Game Time Card for FINAL FANTASY XIV Online. It serves as a payment option that allows players to add 60 days of game time to their FFXIV account at the Standard subscription rate, subject to account limits. Both the game and game time are required to play.
- This product can be redeemed on service accounts registered with the Windows, Mac, PlayStation, or Steam versions of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online. However, it cannot be redeemed on service accounts that have only the XBOX or Nintendo Switch 2 versions registered.
Begin with Square Enix’s official catalog
Square Enix’s current game catalog and product pages are the reference point for identifying an official edition. Search for the title there before checking marketplaces or resale listings.
- Identify the exact product. Note whether the listing is the original release, a remaster, a remake, an expansion, or a bundle. Similar names can hide different software and licenses.
- Confirm the platform. Record the listed console or PC version. A PS4, PS5, PC, Switch, or older-console edition may be sold separately.
- Check the region. Store catalogs, language support, age ratings, discs and account licenses can vary by country.
- Separate digital and physical editions. The FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE purchase page, for example, visibly separates digital and physical editions, and lists a physical standard edition.
- Read edition notes. Look for included expansions, upgrade rights, bonus content, language options, accessibility features and online requirements.
If the catalog shows an official product page but your usual store does not, treat that as evidence of a storefront-specific delisting rather than proof that the game has vanished.
Check authorized digital storefronts
After checking Square Enix, look at other authorized stores that officially list the game for your operating system and region. Storefront availability is title- and edition-specific; a platform carrying one classic does not imply that it carries every Final Fantasy release.
Four classic PC releases on GOG
In a January 29, 2026 press release, GOG announced these four available PC releases:
| Release | Edition or version | Availability described by GOG | What to verify before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| FINAL FANTASY III | 3D Remake | Available PC release | Operating-system requirements, language list and regional visibility |
| FINAL FANTASY IV | 3D Remake | Available PC release | Operating-system requirements, language list and regional visibility |
| FINAL FANTASY VIII | REMASTERED | Available PC release | Operating-system requirements, language list and regional visibility |
| FINAL FANTASY IX | PC release | Available PC release | Operating-system requirements, language list and regional visibility |
GOG says: “With their arrival on GOG, these classics can be enjoyed DRM-free, preserved and as a part of the GOG Preservation Program.” “DRM-free” describes the store’s stated distribution model; it does not make a game compatible with every operating system or guarantee that every language or accessibility option is included. Read the individual product page for those details.
Do not assume that a delisted console version is replaced by a PC version. Saves, controls, trophies, downloadable content and licensing are normally tied to the platform and edition you buy.
Use physical media when an official edition exists
A genuine disc or cartridge can be the most durable legal fallback for a single-player release that is no longer sold digitally. It gives you the original licensed software and can reduce dependence on a storefront account, but it is not a universal solution.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →What to check on a disc or cartridge
- Console generation: confirm that the disc or cartridge runs on your exact hardware. Backward compatibility differs by model and region.
- Region: verify the release’s country or territory, especially for language, downloadable content and account-store compatibility.
- Required patches: some products need a download for bug fixes, performance improvements or content that was not placed on the disc.
- Server dependence: a physical copy does not restore a discontinued online service, authentication server or multiplayer function.
- Edition content: standard, deluxe, intergrade and expansion editions can contain different software and bonuses.
- Condition and completeness: inspect the disc or cartridge, case, included codes and seller’s return policy.
For a physical-product search, the clearest query is Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade PS5. Before buying, verify the retailer’s region, edition, platform, stock and whether the listing is actually a disc rather than a download code. Stock and second-hand prices are volatile; no reliable series-wide average resale price has been established.

Know the difference between owning a game and buying it again
Storefront purchasing and existing ownership are separate questions, particularly on older PlayStation hardware. PlayStation’s current notice explains: “This change is happening because, after nearly two decades, the PS3 and PS Vita can no longer support the updated commerce, payment, and security needed to keep PlayStation Store operating reliably on those devices.”
The same notice says that content you already own can continue to be played, subject to each game’s existing online features and service availability. In practice, check these points:
- Sign in with the account that originally purchased or redeemed the game.
- Open your download list or library rather than searching the store for a new purchase.
- Confirm that the game’s servers and online features still operate.
- Keep any required system software, patches and compatible hardware available.
- Do not assume that ownership on one platform grants a license on another.
An old purchase may remain playable even when a new sale is no longer possible. Conversely, a physical copy may run while a required online feature no longer does. Treat the game license, the storefront listing and the service as three different checks.

Online Final Fantasy games are account services
Massively multiplayer and service-based releases cannot be evaluated like a self-contained single-player cartridge. FINAL FANTASY XIV requires an active service account, platform entitlement and access to the game’s servers.
Check licenses in Mog Station
- Sign in to the FINAL FANTASY XIV Mog Station with the account you intend to use.
- Open the service-account status page.
- Review the platform and expansion licenses shown for that service account.
- If a platform or expansion is missing, a BUY link appears for the missing entitlement.
- Confirm that the platform, region and edition match the account before completing a purchase.
Square Enix’s support article states: “The game is only available as a digital download, so you do not need to register a product code.” A boxed product or second-hand code therefore cannot substitute for the required digital license and service-account setup. Server status, subscription rules and platform access remain separate from whether a box or code is advertised by a seller.
Check cross-generation licensing before buying
Do not assume that a PS5 edition includes the PS4 version, or that a PS4 purchase automatically provides every PS5 edition and bonus. Square Enix says customers who want FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE on PS4 must purchase it separately, even if they purchased FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE on PS5.
Apply that principle to every cross-generation listing:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Read the product’s “included platforms” or upgrade statement, not just the title.
- Check whether the license is for a native PS4 or PS5 application, a backward-compatible disc, or a separate download.
- Verify which edition contains the desired story content, episodes, visual upgrades and bonus items.
- Check whether an upgrade requires the original disc, the same account or an additional fee.
A lower-priced listing can be the wrong version if it lacks the platform license you need.

- Updated and reconstructed visuals to be far more realistic and richly textured vs the original game
- Upgraded models for each character, graphical updates for a more immersive environment
- Estimated gameplay hours: 40 to 50 per title
- Sound: Players will be able to choose between original sound and the new, re-arranged sound
Compare the legal routes
| Route | Legal authorization | Listing status | Offline behavior | Account or service dependence | Key limitations |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Publisher digital store | Official publisher or platform sale | Must be confirmed for the exact edition and region | Depends on the title and platform | Usually tied to the purchasing account | Can disappear from sale; cross-generation rights may differ |
| Authorized alternate PC store | Officially distributed release | Four named classics are listed by GOG as available on January 29, 2026 | GOG describes those releases as DRM-free; check each game’s requirements | Store account may still be needed for download and library access | Does not provide a console license or guarantee every language and accessibility feature |
| Physical disc or cartridge | Licensed retail or second-hand copy | Depends on stock, condition, region and edition | Often suitable for single-player play after installation; patches may still be needed | May require an account for updates, downloads or online play | Cannot restore discontinued servers and may not work on modern hardware |
| Previously purchased digital copy | Existing account license | May remain in the owner’s library after delisting | Subject to the game’s offline design and required services | Original account and service availability are required | New purchases may be blocked, and another platform may need a separate license |
| Online service entitlement | Account and platform licenses | Checked in the game’s account portal | Not a standalone offline copy | Required continuously or according to the service’s rules | Physical media or a product code may not provide access |
A purchase checklist that prevents most mistakes
- Write down the target. Include the exact game name, edition, platform, region and desired language.
- Check the publisher catalog. Confirm whether an official digital or physical edition is identified.
- Search authorized stores. Compare only listings that name the same platform and edition.
- Inspect the license terms. Look for PS4/PS5 separation, upgrade conditions, included expansions and account requirements.
- For physical media, verify hardware. Check console compatibility, region, disc or cartridge condition, patches and server dependence.
- For online games, verify the account first. Use the relevant service portal, such as Mog Station for FINAL FANTASY XIV, and look for the required platform and expansion licenses.
- Confirm language and accessibility. Store pages can list supported text, audio, subtitles, control options and accessibility features differently by region.
- Check price and stock immediately before checkout. A one-time listing, promotion or used-copy price can change without notice.
- Keep proof of purchase. Save the receipt, account used, edition name and any physical serial or product-code information.
Common failure cases and fixes
The game does not appear in the store
Recheck the region, platform and edition, then search the publisher catalog and your existing library. A missing sale listing does not remove an already-owned license. If no official digital or physical edition exists for your target platform, do not treat an unverified download as an equivalent replacement.
The disc starts but an important feature is missing
Determine whether the feature requires a patch, downloadable content or a live server. Install official updates where available, verify that the disc region matches the account region, and recognize that a discontinued service cannot be repaired by changing discs.
The PS5 purchase will not launch the PS4 version
Read the edition terms again. FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE on PS5 does not, by itself, satisfy Square Enix’s stated requirement to purchase the PS4 version separately.
A second-hand online copy asks for another purchase
Check the account portal rather than the box. For FINAL FANTASY XIV, a missing platform or expansion entitlement appears as a BUY link in Mog Station; a physical package cannot replace that digital service license.
The listing promises every language or bonus
Compare the seller’s description with the official edition page. Language, accessibility options, downloadable bonuses and region restrictions are edition-specific; if a detail is not stated, treat it as unconfirmed.
What is not known
There is no reliable, series-wide published statistic for the number of delisted Final Fantasy games, and there is no stable second-hand price average that applies across titles. Counts and prices vary by game, platform, region and date. Use the exact listing and date of purchase rather than a broad estimate.
Bottom line
Find the exact edition first, verify it against Square Enix’s catalog, then choose an authorized storefront, an official physical release or an existing account license. Treat older PlayStation ownership, cross-generation upgrades and online services as separate licensing questions. That process lets you recover many delisted games legally without confusing a missing store listing with a vanished game.
