Skulkers are ambush-focused ARC machines introduced in the Frozen Trail update. The dependable method is to hunt them on Pendola Pass, keep a wall, rock, or building corner between you and the tail rifle, wait for the red laser warning to end, shoot the exposed spherical legs, and then finish the immobilized machine. Do not pursue a retreating Skulker around an unseen corner; its advantage is controlling the next firing angle.
What a Skulker is and why the fight feels different
The Skulker arrived with ARC Raiders’ Frozen Trail update on October 8, 2026, alongside the Bully and Hydra. The official Steam description characterizes it as the opposite of a straightforward attacker: it lies in wait, skirts the edge of your vision, and tries to get the first strike with a rapid burst. That behavior explains why a normal looting route can suddenly become dangerous even when you have not heard a large machine approaching.
ARC Raiders is a multiplayer extraction adventure set in a lethal future Earth dominated by the mechanized ARC threat. A Skulker encounter is therefore not just a damage check. You must manage line of sight, locate a small target in cluttered terrain, preserve healing and ammunition, and still watch for Raiders or another ARC machine while you are focused on the kill.
The machine’s strongest advantage is mobility and concealment. Its legs are vulnerable from the beginning of the encounter, so there is no reason to wait for an armor phase or a special animation. Remove that mobility first, then deal with the body from a controlled position. If the tail rifle continues firing after the legs are damaged, make the tail component your next target.

Where Skulkers spawn on Pendola Pass
Pendola Pass, the snowy map added in Frozen Trail, is the core Skulker hunting area. The guide for the enemy states that Pendola Pass unlocks after you have played 25 rounds. Once the map is available, search the edges of points of interest rather than only their centers. Skulkers commonly wait just outside buildings and shelters, where a player moving between cover and an objective presents an easy side angle.

Repeated sightings have also been reported in the ravine route, near the Gondola exfil, and along the northern tracks. These are useful patrol loops, not guaranteed spawn points. Spawn patterns and map conditions can change with a patch, so treat every location as a place to check rather than a promise that a Skulker will be present.
A safe search pattern
- Start each route from a position with a wall, large rock, or building corner within one or two steps.
- Scan the outside edge of the next structure before entering an open lane.
- Pause long enough to identify the characteristic beeping; do not rely on sight alone in snow or a storm.
- Check corners and the space behind you before opening containers or starting an interaction.
- If a Skulker withdraws, mark its last direction and reposition instead of sprinting after it.
Recognize the ambush before it becomes damage
The most important warning is the red laser painting your position. It is the telegraph for the Skulker’s burst. The correct response is not to trade shots. Break line of sight completely by stepping behind a wall, rock, or substantial building corner and remain hidden until the burst ends. Partial cover that leaves your head or torso visible can still allow the rifle to connect.

A beeping sound can reveal a Skulker that is outside your current view, especially during a blizzard or around turbine machinery. When you hear it, stop advancing, turn your camera through nearby corners, and identify a retreat route before firing. A small machine that disappears from view may simply be moving to another angle.
After the burst, peek from cover rather than walking into the open. The short exposure window is enough to place accurate shots into the spherical legs. If you cannot see the legs, return to cover and change your angle; spraying at the body while exposed gives up the advantage the encounter is designed to reward.
Preparation: weapons, shields, and inventory
Accuracy matters more than maximum armor penetration because the opening objective is to hit small, exposed leg spheres consistently. Choose by precision between bursts, damage per shot, effective range, ammunition availability, and whether you can reliably hit a spherical leg. A technically stronger weapon is a poor choice if its recoil causes you to miss the immobilization shots.

Shield and medical preparation
- Light Shield: 40 charge and 40% damage reduction, according to the same guide.
- Medium Shield: 70 charge and 42.5% damage reduction.
- Ammunition: Carry enough for the legs, the body, and a possible second machine; do not enter with only the magazine already loaded.
- Healing: Bring a heal before you start a route that crosses a known sighting area. The goal is to survive a mistake without abandoning the extraction plan.
- Cover plan: Before looting a container, identify the nearest hard cover and the direction you will move if the laser appears.
The reliable solo kill sequence
1. Establish hard cover before firing
Do not begin by shooting from the middle of a path. Move to a wall, building corner, or large rock that blocks the tail rifle. Your cover should let you lean or peek far enough to see the legs while keeping your entire character hidden when you retreat. If the only available cover is a thin object or a low snowbank, relocate before committing.
2. Let the red laser finish its warning
When the laser paints your position, hide completely. Do not peek to confirm the machine’s exact location and do not attempt to finish a reload in the open. Wait for the burst to end, then use the pause to decide whether the current angle is still safe. If the Skulker has moved, listen for the beeping and check a second piece of cover before exposing yourself.
3. Break both spherical legs
Use short, aimed peeks to shoot the spherical legs. They are exposed from the start, so no armor animation needs to be triggered. The legs are the priority because removing mobility takes away the machine’s ability to circle, retreat into a new angle, or keep you pinned while you search for it. Fire only as many rounds as you can place accurately, then return behind cover.
4. Deal with the tail rifle if it remains active
If the tail rifle continues firing after the legs are damaged, target that component before committing to body shots. Keeping the rifle active allows the Skulker to punish every peek, even when it can no longer move effectively. Use the same cover rhythm: expose the smallest practical portion of your character, fire, and retreat before the next burst.
5. Finish the body after immobilization
Once mobility is gone and the tail rifle is no longer the immediate threat, place shots into the body. Maintain cover until the machine is visibly destroyed; an immobilized target is safer, not harmless. Avoid wasting ammunition on nearby armor plates unless they are the part your current angle actually exposes.

6. Secure the scene before touching the loot
Skulker fights attract attention. Scan for other ARC machines, inspect likely Raider approaches, and listen for movement before opening the machine’s drops. If your shield or healing is depleted, move to a safer shelter and reassess the extraction route instead of standing over the body.
Skulker part health and targeting priorities
The following figures are named values from AllThingsHow’s guide, updated October 17, 2026. Official Frozen Trail material establishes the enemy’s role but does not publish a complete Skulker stat table, and a later balance patch could change these numbers.

Groups, Bully pairings, and squad roles
Skulkers can appear in groups or alongside a Bully. In a group, focus one Skulker until it is destroyed rather than spreading damage across several machines. Removing one source of the ambush pressure gives the squad a predictable angle and reduces the number of lasers you must read.

One player should watch the Bully when it is present, while the others maintain the Skulker engagement. The callout should identify a landmark and direction, such as “north side of the ravine, behind the turbine,” not merely “Skulker here.” This lets teammates hold cover and prevents a second ambush while they rotate.
Suggested squad jobs
- Spotter: Tracks the beeping, laser, and last known movement without overextending.
- Leg shooter: Takes the cleanest angle on the spherical legs and calls when mobility is gone.
- Rifle shooter: Switches to the tail if it remains active, then helps finish the body.
- Security player: Watches Raider approaches and the Bully instead of joining every peek.
Loot: the Skulker Targeter and other drops
Check the tail after the kill because it can contain a Skulker Targeter. The Targeter is distinct from the Skulker Driver. It is reported as an Uncommon deployable that fires at ARC machines and Raiders within 25 meters, deals 9 damage, and tracks targets within a narrow cone. It can be recycled or used in Mobile-Fire Grip Fittings and Canto Blueprint crafting.
Other reported drops include the Skulker Driver, Heavy Ammo, Advanced ARC Powercell, ARC Thermo Lining, ARC Coolant, ARC Data Module, and a chance at ARC Alloy. These are reported loot possibilities rather than guaranteed contents. Search the area before extracting, but only after checking for a second machine or player.

Route and extraction decisions after the fight
A successful kill can still become a failed run if you cross an exposed route while carrying the loot. Before opening the machine, identify the nearest covered path to your intended exfil. Routes near the Gondola exfil north of Old Town are convenient but can also be watched by Raiders. The ravine between the Railyard and Commissary Supermarket offers terrain to work with, yet its bends can conceal a second Skulker. Northern tracks north of Almatera Station provide longer views, which are useful for scanning but dangerous if you cross without hard cover.

In a blizzard, storm, or Redirection condition, shorten the distance between cover points and avoid unnecessary fights. If your shield is empty, ammunition is low, or the tail rifle forced you to use healing, extraction is usually the correct decision once the loot is secured. There is no benefit in turning a completed machine kill into a second engagement for a container that is not required for your objective.
Common failures and precise fixes
You die during the first burst
Cause: You opened the fight in the open or treated the laser as a target marker instead of a warning.
Fix: Start every engagement from hard cover and hide completely when the red laser appears. A wall or large rock is more valuable than a few extra meters of distance.
You cannot find the Skulker after it retreats
Cause: You chased immediately and entered the next firing angle without a reference point.
Fix: Stop at the last safe position, listen for beeping, and scan corners from cover. Mark the last direction and make the machine come into a controlled sight line.

Your shots hit but the machine keeps circling
Cause: Damage was spread across the body or armor instead of concentrated on the legs.
Fix: Reserve the first accurate peeks for the spherical legs. Do not wait for an armor phase; the legs are exposed immediately.
The rifle keeps punishing every peek
Cause: The tail rifle remains active after mobility damage.

Fix: Change the target priority to the tail rifle, using the same burst-and-cover rhythm. Finish the body only after the rifle is no longer the immediate threat.
The squad is wiped by a second machine or Raider
Cause: Everyone focused on the Skulker and abandoned perimeter security.
Fix: Assign one player to watch the Bully or likely Raider approach, and use landmark-based callouts so teammates can hold cover while rotating.
You win the fight but lose the run while looting
Cause: The team treated the destroyed machine as proof that the area was safe.
Fix: Scan for ARC machines and Raiders, reload, restore your shield or healing position, then inspect the tail and body. Keep the extraction route covered while one player loots.
