World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PDT. Access is included with an active World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time. To play with specific people, coordinate your ruleset and faction before creating a character, then use friends, a guild, a community, or in-game chat to form a questing or dungeon party. Forever’s realmless design removes traditional realm selection, but it does not remove the same-ruleset and same-faction requirements for grouping.
What you need before creating a character
Forever is a permanent World of Warcraft environment built alongside modern and Classic WoW. Blizzard describes it as a version where the world, community, and journey are central rather than disposable seasonal features. The most important preparation is social and compatibility planning, not choosing a traditional server.
Access is part of a subscription or Game Time
Ordinary launch access is included with an active World of Warcraft Subscription or World of Warcraft Game Time. Blizzard has announced optional upgrade editions, but an upgrade is not required to enter the game. If you are preparing before launch, check that the Battle.net account you intend to use has the correct subscription or game-time status.

Choose people before choosing a character
Ask your intended group, guild, or community four questions before character creation:
#1 Best Overall
- Azeroth Awaits! Join millions of players and enter a world of myth, magic, and endless adventure.
- With a single game time purchase you can access World of Warcraft and WoW Classic, including 20th Anniversary Edition, Cataclysm Classic, Season of Discovery, and Hardcore Realms.
- Embark on your epic adventure in Azeroth for 60 days with this pre-paid game timecard.
- Simply enter your code at battle.net/code then assign this game time to any new or existing World of Warcraft account to keep the adventures going. No game purchase required.
- Includes access to World of Warcraft and WOW Classic. The most recent modern WOW expansion is sold separately.
- Which ruleset are you playing: Normal, PvP, or Roleplaying?
- Are you playing Horde or Alliance?
- What language and region do you use for chat and scheduling?
- When will you normally be online, and are you leveling, running dungeons, or planning raids?
The realmless structure lowers the risk of selecting the wrong traditional realm, but it does not make every character compatible. A character on one ruleset cannot simply join a group on another, and Horde and Alliance characters cannot group together.
Understand Forever’s rulesets
Your ruleset determines the environment in which you level and the pool of players available for group content. Pick the one that matches your friends or the community you want to join rather than treating it as a cosmetic preference.
| Ruleset | Best fit | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Normal | Cooperative leveling, dungeons, and raids without a permanently PvP-focused world. | This is the baseline choice for a first character or a group that wants predictable cooperative play. |
| PvP | Players who want open-world danger and the possibility of hostile player encounters. | Travel and questing can be interrupted by opposing players. Make sure your group is comfortable with that risk. |
| Roleplaying | Players looking for an established roleplay community and shared in-character conventions. | Read a guild or community’s roleplay expectations before joining and use the communication channels it specifies. |
| Hardcore | Players interested in a separate high-consequence ecosystem. | Hardcore is planned as a separate ecosystem after launch, so do not assume it is available in the initial launch environment. |
Group, dungeon, and raid play is limited to characters on the same ruleset. Ruleset choice is therefore the first compatibility check whenever someone invites you to a group.
Faction compatibility: Horde and Alliance cannot group
Forever still uses the two major factions for grouping. Horde and Alliance characters cannot form a group together, even when they are otherwise similar in level or playing the same activity. Decide on a faction with your friends before you make characters.
| Situation | Can you group? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Same ruleset, same faction | Yes, subject to the normal level, activity, and group logistics. | Exchange character or Battle.net names and schedule your first activity. |
| Different rulesets | No. | Recreate or use a character on the ruleset your group selected. |
| Horde and Alliance | No. | Choose one faction together before investing time in separate characters. |
| Same faction and ruleset, different traditional realms | Traditional realm selection is not the issue in Forever’s realmless design. | Confirm the ruleset and faction instead of trying to coordinate a conventional realm name. |
Install and enter the game
The documented beta installation flow is the clearest way to become familiar with the client before launch. Labels can change between testing and release, so use the current Battle.net wording if it differs from the beta interface.
Rank #2
- A pre paid, 60 day subscription to world of warcraft
- Requires world of warcraft standard game box contains game card only
- Open the Battle.net desktop app and sign in to the account with your World of Warcraft access.
- Select World of Warcraft in the game list.
- Open the version selector and choose World of Warcraft: Forever Beta under In Development.
- Select Install and allow the client to finish downloading and updating.
- Choose a test realm when the beta client presents that option.
- Select Create a Test Character and make a character using the ruleset and faction agreed with your group.
Beta access and launch access are separate practical steps: installing the beta does not replace the subscription or Game Time requirement for ordinary access, and beta characters are for testing rather than a guarantee of launch progress.
How to find your first group
The fastest reliable route is to start with people who can see your schedule and preferences. Use a small, specific request rather than a general message such as “anyone want to play?”
Start with friends
- Exchange Battle.net or in-game names.
- Confirm the ruleset and faction in writing before anyone creates a character.
- Choose a short first session, such as one quest chain or one dungeon attempt.
- Agree on a meeting point and a rough starting time.
- Decide whether the goal is relaxed leveling, efficient completion, exploration, or learning the game.
A short first session gives everyone a chance to test communication and pace without turning a first meeting into a long-term commitment.
Join a guild or community
Look for a guild or community advertisement that states its ruleset, faction, language, region, usual play hours, and attitude toward new players. A useful first message includes your level or intended starting level, preferred activity, available times, and whether you are looking for a one-time run or a long-term home.
For example, a clear request is: “New Alliance player on Normal, available 19:00–22:00 UTC, looking for a beginner-friendly leveling group and occasional dungeons.” That wording lets a recruiter decide quickly whether the group is compatible.

Ask a prospective guild for one low-pressure activity before committing to a raid schedule. Pay attention to how members explain mechanics, handle mistakes, distribute loot, and welcome questions. Those behaviors matter more to a new player than a large membership count.
Use in-game social channels
Local, general, guild, and party channels can all help, but each message should identify the activity and the people you need. Include:
- Activity: questing, a specific dungeon, PvP, or a raid.
- Level range: the level of your character or the range you are seeking.
- Roles: whether you need a tank, healer, damage dealer, or any combination.
- Ruleset and faction: so incompatible players do not waste time responding.
- Meeting point: where the group will assemble.
- Timing: when you will start and how long you expect to play.
For a questing group, describe the zone or quest chain. For a dungeon group, name the dungeon and state whether you are learning it or expecting a fast clear. For a guild search, say that explicitly instead of presenting a one-run request as a recruitment post.
Plan the first session around Forever’s slower world design
Forever keeps leveling and preparation meaningful. Blizzard has announced no flying mounts and no level scaling, so travel, route planning, and the level of nearby enemies remain relevant to group decisions. Do not assume that a high-level character can instantly remove every travel or difficulty constraint.
Set expectations before the first pull
- Pace: decide whether the group waits for everyone or moves quickly between objectives.
- Loot: agree on the group’s loot expectations before valuable items appear.
- Roles: identify who is leading, healing, controlling enemies, or marking targets.
- Travel: confirm the route and whether everyone knows the meeting location.
- Breaks: state when players may need to step away.
- Communication: choose party chat, guild chat, community chat, or a voice channel.
These agreements prevent common first-run problems: one player racing ahead, a healer running out of resources, the group splitting during travel, or an item dispute ending an otherwise successful session.

Use a small first objective
One quest chain or one dungeon is enough for the first meeting. Afterward, decide whether the group’s pace, communication style, and availability fit. If they do, schedule the next session; if they do not, you can leave without having tied yourself to a long raid commitment.
What you can do during the launch journey
Forever’s launch content supports several ways to meet people, from shared leveling to organized endgame groups. The following figures come from Blizzard’s 2026 launch information and describe the planned launch experience.
| Content | Launch information | How it helps you find players |
|---|---|---|
| Questing | More than 1,000 new quests across levels 1–60. | Quest chains provide repeatable meeting points for leveling partners and guild recruitment. |
| Dungeons | Nine new dungeons. | A dungeon group is a focused way to test roles, communication, and loot expectations. |
| Raids | Two launch raids. | Raids require more dependable schedules and role coverage than a casual leveling party. |
| Battleground | One 15-versus-15 battleground. | PvP-minded players can use battleground groups to find regular teammates. |
| Progression | Level cap 60; no flying; no level scaling. | Groups need to coordinate travel, level range, and preparation rather than relying on automatic scaling. |
The Skyborne starting experience
The Skyborne race begins on Zephras Isle and has a level 1–12 starting experience. Faction choice affects its available class options, so Skyborne players should coordinate faction before character creation just as other players do. If your group wants to start together, confirm that everyone is choosing the same faction and ruleset before entering the starting zone.
Legacy Points and alternate characters
Legacy Points are shared across alternate characters. At launch, each character can spend up to 16 points, while up to 65 points can be earned toward the wider reward track. This makes an alt-friendly social plan practical: players can experiment with another character without treating every character’s progression as entirely isolated. It does not remove the need to coordinate ruleset and faction for group play.

Blizzard’s official material reviewed for launch does not definitively specify whether an automated, retail-style dungeon finder or a summoning system ships at launch. Do not plan around automatic matchmaking, teleporting to a dungeon, or a particular interface until Blizzard publishes a direct feature specification.

Prepare for both possibilities. If an automated tool is present, read its current role and ruleset requirements carefully. If it is not present, use guild, community, party, and general channels to assemble a group manually, then arrange travel to the dungeon. In either case, state the dungeon, level range, roles, ruleset, faction, and start time so the group is usable rather than merely large.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing between questing, dungeons, PvP, and raids
| Your priority | Start with | Questions to ask prospective teammates |
|---|---|---|
| Learn the world and meet people gradually | Shared questing on Normal. | What pace do you prefer, and how long is the session? |
| Practice a role in a contained activity | A beginner-friendly dungeon group. | Is this a learning run, and which roles are still needed? |
| Accept open-world danger | PvP ruleset questing or battleground play. | Are you comfortable with hostile-player encounters during travel? |
| Play in character | Roleplaying ruleset guild or community. | What in-character and out-of-character communication conventions do you use? |
| Build a regular organized schedule | A guild that runs dungeons or raids consistently. | What are the attendance expectations, start times, and role requirements? |
Do not choose a raid-focused guild solely because it has the most members. A smaller group with compatible hours and a beginner-friendly culture is more likely to produce a dependable first experience.
Common problems and practical fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot see or join a friend’s group. | Different rulesets or factions. | Compare both character selections and create compatible characters before trying again. |
| Your group forms but keeps splitting up. | Unclear pace, travel plan, or meeting point. | Choose one leader, state the route, and wait at agreed checkpoints. |
| A dungeon run becomes tense over loot. | No loot expectations were set. | Pause and agree on the group’s loot approach before continuing. |
| Recruiters do not respond to your guild request. | The request lacks ruleset, faction, schedule, or activity. | Rewrite it with those details and specify whether you want a run or long-term membership. |
| You expect to arrive instantly at a dungeon. | Assumption about an automated finder or summoning system. | Check the current official feature information and prepare a manual travel plan. |
| A new player feels overwhelmed in a large group. | The first activity is too ambitious. | Start with one quest chain or one dungeon and expand only after the group communicates well. |
A repeatable first-week plan
- Before launch or beta entry: choose a ruleset and faction with the people you want to play with.
- Install the client: use the Battle.net path for the Forever Beta if you have access to testing.
- Create a character: verify the ruleset and faction on the character-selection screen before confirming.
- Build your contact list: add friends, join a suitable guild or community, and note its normal play hours.
- Post a precise request: include activity, level range, roles, meeting point, ruleset, faction, and start time.
- Run one small activity: complete a quest chain or one dungeon rather than committing immediately to a full schedule.
- Review the fit: keep groups whose pace and communication work for you, and look for a different community if they do not.
- Expand gradually: add dungeons, PvP, or raid planning after you know which activity and schedule suit the group.
What to verify at launch
Forever’s launch date and access model are established, but some interface details remain unspecified in the published material. When the live client is available, verify the labels and tools actually shown in-game rather than relying on assumptions from another World of Warcraft version.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Whether an automated dungeon-matching feature is available.
- Whether a summoning feature is available and what requirements it has.
- Which channels and community tools are enabled for your selected ruleset.
- Whether any launch-day maintenance changes the stated access or character-creation flow.
The stable decisions you can make now are your subscription or Game Time access, ruleset, faction, social group, language, and schedule. Those choices determine whether you can actually play together; a specific finder button or teleport feature should be treated as a live-client detail until Blizzard confirms it.
Bottom line
To get started in WoW: Forever, secure subscription or Game Time access, coordinate the same ruleset and faction with your friends, and begin with a small questing or dungeon group found through friends, a guild, a community, or focused in-game chat. Normal is the safest default for cooperative newcomers, PvP is for players who accept open-world danger, Roleplaying is for an established roleplay community, and Hardcore is planned separately after launch. Forever’s realmless design makes social coordination easier, but it does not allow cross-ruleset or Horde–Alliance grouping, and Blizzard has not yet confirmed a retail-style automated dungeon finder or summoning system.
