For the fastest reliable early-game supply, clear the Scavenger camp at Rookmore in the Springlands, loot every enemy, destroy the camp’s metal clutter, and collect the visible pickups before leaving. Metal Scraps are not mined ore: they come from Scavengers, destroyed metal objects, and physical pickups. Wescott and other ruined Springlands settlements are useful alternatives when they are closer to your base or safer to repeat.
A logout-and-rejoin reset is reported to refresh containers, searched junk, and Scavengers in a solo private world, but that behavior comes from a secondary guide and can change after a patch. - Scavenger enemies and their variants.
- Metal objects and other destructible clutter in settlements.
- Loose scraps that can be picked up in the world.
The material appears in recipes for arrows, weapons, armor, tools, crafting stations, furniture, and decorations. That makes scraps a progression resource as well as a building resource: combat upgrades can consume the same stock you planned to use for a workshop or decorated base. Farming a little extra during each Springlands visit prevents a later crafting trip when you are already short.

Rookmore is the strongest early-game location supported by the available location guidance. What to clear at Rookmore
- Scavengers: defeat every hostile in the camp and loot each body.
- Metal clutter: break metal objects, boxes, and other destructible pieces of the settlement.
- Searchable furniture: check tables, benches, junk piles, and containers after the fight.
- Loose pickups: walk the camp once more and collect scraps lying on the ground or beside structures.
Rookmore’s value is density rather than a published numeric yield. No source establishes an exact number of scraps per run or per minute, so treat the camp as the best-supported route, not as a guaranteed quota.
Step-by-step Rookmore farming loop
- Start from your nearest convenient base or travel point. The best route is the one you can repeat without spending excessive time reaching the settlement. Before leaving, make enough inventory room for enemy drops and environmental pickups.
- Enter the settlement and identify the Scavenger group. Avoid running past enemies into the middle of the camp if doing so creates unnecessary combat risk. Pull or fight groups in a position where you can safely return to dropped loot.
- Defeat all Scavengers in the camp. The official item listing names several possible drop sources: Hollow Reapers, Hollow Soldiers, Berserkers, Scalpers, Scrapgunners, and Wolves. Not every visit must contain every variant; the list identifies eligible Scavenger sources, not a guaranteed spawn roster.
- Loot every defeated enemy immediately or after the area is safe. A partial loot pass leaves the most direct source of scraps behind. If the camp is still dangerous, finish the clear first, then make a deliberate body-by-body sweep.
- Search the camp’s containers and furniture. Check tables, benches, junk piles, and containers. A secondary guide specifically highlights Scavenger-camp objects as productive, so do not leave after combat without checking the settlement itself.
- Destroy the metal clutter. Break metal objects, boxes, and linen containers that can be destroyed. These actions are separate from looting enemy bodies and can add material to the same run.
- Make a final pickup circuit. Follow the edges of the camp, then cross its center, looking for visible scraps that were easy to miss during combat. Pickups beside walls, benches, and wreckage are particularly easy to overlook when you are focused on enemies.
- Leave only after the camp is fully checked. If your inventory is full, decide which lower-priority items to abandon before departing; returning solely for one missed pickup usually costs more time than collecting it during the first pass.

Use the following order when you want a repeatable sweep rather than random searching.

When Wescott is the better choice
Wescott can beat Rookmore for convenience when it is substantially closer to your base or when your current build can clear it more safely. It is also a sensible fallback if Rookmore’s enemies are slowing the run or if you are already traveling through Wescott for another objective. Apply the same full-clear procedure: Scavengers first, then containers, destructible clutter, and loose pickups.

A secondary guide reports that, in a solo private world, logging out and rejoining can reset containers, searched junk, and Scavengers. If the behavior works in your current version, it allows you to test a repeat loop without waiting for a naturally occurring refresh.
How to test the reported reset
- Complete the Rookmore clear and record what you collected. Do not assume the first run’s result represents a fixed rate.
- Leave the area and log out of the solo private world.
- Rejoin the same world and return to Rookmore.
- Check whether Scavengers have returned and whether containers or searched junk can be interacted with again.
- If the camp has refreshed, repeat the same route and compare the time and effort required with a normal travel loop.
This is guide-reported behavior, not a guaranteed universal reset rule. It may differ by game version, world type, multiplayer state, or later patches. If containers remain empty or enemies do not return, stop treating logout/rejoin as part of your route and use another settlement or a later visit instead. Never build a farming plan around an assumed reset until you have confirmed it in your own current world.
How to make each run more efficient
Use a fixed sweep order
Efficiency comes from consistency. A repeatable order prevents backtracking: clear the approach, defeat the Scavengers, loot bodies, search furniture and containers, destroy metal clutter, then collect visible scraps. Changing the order every run makes it harder to notice which part of the route is actually slowing you down.
Separate combat time from search time
Searching while enemies are active creates avoidable interruptions and can cause missed bodies or pickups. Finish the dangerous portion first, then perform one uninterrupted loot-and-destruction pass. If a group is spread across the settlement, clear it in sections and search each section while its enemies are down.

Compare complete routes, not isolated drops
A settlement that produces more scraps but takes much longer to reach may be worse for your play session than a smaller camp nearby. Compare the entire loop: travel, combat, searching, destruction, inventory management, and return. Because no verified scraps-per-minute statistic exists, your own timed comparisons are more useful than an unsupported promise of a specific yield.
Track what you actually need
Metal Scraps feed both combat and construction recipes. If you are preparing arrows, weapons, armor, or tools, leave enough room for those materials before spending the remainder on crafting stations, furniture, or decoration. A simple written target—such as “one full Rookmore sweep before building”—keeps a construction project from consuming the stock needed for equipment.
What Metal Scraps are used for
The official recipe list places Metal Scraps in several groups of recipes. The exact amount required varies by recipe, so plan around the item you intend to make rather than a universal reserve.

Leaving after killing the enemies
Symptom: Your haul is smaller than expected even though the camp is clear.
Fix: Search tables, benches, junk piles, and containers; destroy metal objects, boxes, and linen containers; then make a final pickup circuit.
Assuming every Scavenger drops scraps
Symptom: A particular enemy or visit produces less than expected.
Fix: Treat the named variants as eligible drop sources, not a guaranteed number of drops per enemy or a promise that every listed variant appears on every visit.
Relying on an exact yield claim
Symptom: Your run does not match a claimed scraps-per-minute number.
Fix: Disregard unverified quotas. The available guidance is qualitative; measure your own complete route if you need a personal benchmark.
Assuming logout/rejoin always works
Symptom: Containers remain searched or Scavengers are absent after reconnecting.
Fix: Treat the reset as version-sensitive, guide-reported behavior. Verify it in your own solo private world and switch to normal travel between settlements if it fails.

Early combat progression
Run Rookmore before crafting a new batch of arrows, weapons, armor, or tools. Complete the entire enemy-and-clutter sweep so one trip supports several crafting decisions. Keep the material for the equipment that advances your current objective before using leftovers on optional base projects.

Use the settlement route when you are ready to add or upgrade a station. Because stations compete with weapons, armor, and tools for scraps, decide the station’s priority first, then farm enough for that project and leave a reserve for immediate repairs or equipment needs.
