Before GTA VI releases, no verified route or complete list of hidden areas is available. The most reliable way to prepare is to use Rockstar’s six named Leonida destinations as a region-by-region log, then mark landmarks, side activities, and hidden places only after confirming them in the released game. Rockstar’s official destination page introduces the regions; it is not an exhaustive map or a checklist of everything to find.

What is confirmed about GTA VI’s map

Rockstar describes GTA VI as set in Vice City, USA, with its story extending across the state of Leonida. Its official GTA VI page and Only in Leonida page establish the destination names, but do not provide a complete navigable map, detailed boundaries, verified hidden-area inventory, or instructions for clearing each region.

Rockstar’s six destination labels give you a useful top-level outline. Treat their descriptions as broad setting cues rather than exact geographic boundaries:

Official destination Broad cue from Rockstar’s presentation What that does—and does not—tell you
Vice City Urban A city-focused region to log; no full neighborhood or interior checklist is established.
Leonida Keys Island destination An island area to track separately; no confirmed route or access requirements are published.
Grassrivers Wetlands A wetland setting that may guide where you look, not evidence of a particular secret or marker.
Port Gellhorn Coastline A coastal destination; its full boundaries and points of interest are not specified.
Ambrosia Inland An inland destination; Rockstar’s broad label does not define its borders.
Mount Kalaga Beyond the city lights A destination outside the urban setting. Use Rockstar’s spelling; a TechRadar report uses the variant “Mount Kalaha National Park” when summarizing Game Informer coverage.

The six official names and geographic cues come from Rockstar’s Only in Leonida page. Its presentation helps organize exploration, but it should not be mistaken for a complete map.

How to build a region-by-region exploration log

Until the game is available, this is a player-organizing method—not a confirmed GTA VI tracker, completion system, or in-game mechanic. Create a separate log for each official region and maintain a source or screenshot reference for every entry. A spreadsheet or notes app works; the important part is separating confirmed discoveries from guesses.

  1. Create six region sections. Use Rockstar’s exact names: Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga.
  2. Record access information only when verified in-game. Note whether a location is reachable and whether story progress, a particular route, or another requirement is involved. Do not assume every region is accessible from the start.
  3. Log confirmed locations by type. Keep landmarks, side activities, collectibles, interiors, and other discoveries in distinct entries so you can see what kind of coverage is still uncertain.
  4. Attach evidence to each entry. Record the in-game map reference, a screenshot, or another clear way to relocate the discovery. If a location comes from a fan map or prediction, label it as unverified until you check it in the game.
  5. Keep an unresolved list. Note spaces that look unexplored or lead to an unverified entrance, but do not count them as confirmed hidden areas until you find evidence.
  6. Revisit gaps after your first sweep. A region log can help you notice missing-looking areas, but it cannot prove that you have found every secret unless the released game provides a reliable completion indicator.

What to look for—and what not to assume

Rockstar’s reported world details can help you decide what to observe, but they do not identify secrets or explain how exploration contributes to completion. TechRadar’s October 1, 2026 account of Game Informer coverage attributes a figure of 170 animal species to Rockstar, including more than 60 bird types and more than 30 land mammals. Those figures describe world variety; they are not a count of hidden areas or a promise that wildlife sightings unlock map locations.

The same TechRadar report says Game Informer described the map as twice the size of GTA V’s world and quotes Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut calling it Rockstar’s largest world “by some degree.” These are reported pre-release comparisons, not published area measurements or a basis for estimating how long a full exploration will take. Garbut also described attention to rooftops, alleys, interiors, and the spaces between them, but that design remark does not establish an inventory of enterable buildings.

TechRadar’s report quotes Rockstar VP of art for lighting and rendering Owen Shepherd saying the weather system was re-engineered to be more localized and persistent. Weather and regional wildlife may make areas feel distinct, but no cited source establishes that they reveal hidden-area markers or count toward a completion percentage. Likewise, Rob Nelson’s scale remark, reported by GamesRadar from an IGN interview, that he did not know whether anyone on the team knew all of the game, is a comment about scale—not confirmation of particular secrets.

What remains unknown before release

Rockstar’s public destination page and the cited pre-release reporting do not establish the details needed for a verified all-areas walkthrough. In particular, they do not confirm:

  • A complete map with exact region boundaries or every landmark.
  • The number of hidden areas, collectibles, or discoverable sites.
  • Whether story progress gates any destinations or individual locations.
  • Whether explored terrain, interiors, caves, or vertical spaces appear in an official tracker.
  • An official exploration checklist, completion percentage, or expected time to clear the map.
  • A tested vehicle, tool, ability, map layer, or route for finding every area.

Do not infer an access rule or completion requirement from a region’s name, environment, or a fan reconstruction. Once the game is released, verify whether story progress affects access, how the map records explored ground, whether interiors and caves count, and whether the game offers an official counter before relying on any guide’s method.

How to use community maps responsibly

Independent checklists can help organize discoveries, but they are not Rockstar data. Vice Atlas describes itself as an independent fan guide and says it is not affiliated with Rockstar. If you use a community map after launch, keep predicted or community-submitted pins separate from locations you have personally confirmed in-game. A fan map is useful for finding leads; it cannot by itself prove that its coverage is complete.
