Estimate a 24/7 stream’s ad revenue from the channel’s own historical live-stream ad revenue per view—not from a generic CPM. Multiply expected views by that rate, or divide expected views by 1,000 and multiply by the channel’s historical live ad RPM. Treat the result as a planning scenario, not a promised payout: YouTube says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads and does not guarantee earnings.
Use this formula for a first estimate
Choose a forecast period, such as a day or month, and estimate how many views the live stream and its replay will receive during that period. Then use comparable historical live-stream ad data from your channel:
Estimated live ad revenue = expected live-stream views × historical live-stream ad revenue per view
If your Analytics data is expressed as live ad RPM instead:

Estimated live ad revenue = expected live-stream views ÷ 1,000 × historical live-stream ad RPM
Use the channel’s ad revenue report and live-stream history where possible. Match the forecast to a similar audience, stream format, and time period. For example, if a comparable period produced a particular amount of live ad revenue from a known number of views, divide that ad revenue by those views to get an ad-revenue-per-view baseline, then multiply by the expected views in your forecast. The result is an estimate based on your channel’s past performance, not a guaranteed payout.
Do not mistake CPM or concurrent viewers for the inputs
CPM is not your take-home rate
CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube’s revenue share. Playback-based CPM measures advertiser cost per 1,000 video playbacks that included one or more ads. Neither is the same as creator revenue per 1,000 total views: a playback can generate multiple ad impressions, and many views do not receive an ad.

RPM is creator-focused revenue per 1,000 views after revenue share. YouTube’s RPM can combine ads with YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat, and Super Stickers. If the question is specifically how much advertising may earn, use estimated ad revenue rather than a blended total-revenue figure. Do not multiply total views by CPM as if every view were an ad impression or as if the full advertiser cost went to the creator. YouTube’s Analytics definitions explain these distinctions.

Concurrent viewers are not views
A 24/7 schedule describes how long the stream runs, not how many people watch or how many ads are served. If you forecast from average concurrent viewers, first calculate viewer-hours:
Viewer-hours = average concurrent viewers × hours streamed

To estimate views from viewer-hours, you also need an assumption for average watch duration. State that assumption; do not treat a concurrent-viewer count or viewer-hours as a view count. Even a sound view estimate still does not establish how many views will be monetized.
Check monetization eligibility and ad delivery
Confirm the channel can earn from the live stream
Ad revenue requires an eligible, monetized channel and the applicable Watch Page Monetization Module for live streams on the Watch Page. Confirm the channel’s monetization status and settings before building a revenue estimate. Views do not guarantee monetized playbacks
An ad may not be shown on every view. Ad availability, targeting, viewer status, settings, and other factors affect delivery. A monetized playback is a playback where an ad was shown; one playback may contain more than one ad impression. This is why your own historical live ad revenue per view is a more useful starting point than a generic rate. YouTube also cautions that “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance covers the available live ad formats and controls.

Build low, base, and high scenarios
There is no universal dollar-per-view or CPM figure that reliably forecasts an arbitrary 24/7 stream. Use your channel’s historical live ad rate and vary the view assumption rather than importing an unsupported industry average.
- Set a period. Forecast a day, week, or month, and use the same period for expected views and historical data.
- Choose comparable history. Use live streams and replays with a similar audience, content format, and schedule. Prefer the ad revenue report when estimating ad-only income.
- Set view scenarios. Use a conservative, expected, and optimistic view estimate grounded in your channel’s traffic pattern. If estimating views from concurrent viewers, document the average watch-duration assumption.
- Apply the historical live ad rate. Calculate expected views × historical ad revenue per view, or expected views ÷ 1,000 × historical live ad RPM.
- Label the output clearly. Call each result an estimate or scenario. Do not describe it as a payout commitment or guaranteed income.
For example, if you have a historical live ad RPM and a forecast for views in the same period, the RPM formula gives a straightforward baseline. A lower-view scenario and higher-view scenario show how sensitive the result is to audience size. Avoid adding an assumed CPM-based adjustment unless you have a clearly identified, defensible basis for it.

When live monetization is enabled, YouTube says pre-roll and display ads are automatically on. Mid-roll ads can be automatic, scheduled, or manually inserted. Automatic mid-rolls target natural breakpoints and offer low, medium, and high frequency options; documented scheduled breaks can be set at intervals from 6 to 30 minutes. These are opportunities to serve ads, not guarantees that every slot will fill. See YouTube’s live monetization guidance for the controls and current details.

Automatic mid-rolls
Automatic placement reduces the need to insert each break yourself and targets natural pauses. YouTube recommends automatic mid-rolls and reported that creators who chose them saw an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not. That was a YouTube-reported historical average across 207 countries, measured in January 2024; it is not a forecast multiplier or a promise for an individual channel.
Scheduled or manual mid-rolls
Scheduled and manual placements provide more control over timing, but require decisions about when an interruption fits the content. Compare actual live ad revenue and audience response on your own channel rather than assuming one insertion approach will earn more in every format.
YouTube says automatic controls can limit disruption for members, pause mid-rolls for viewers sending certain fan-funding messages, and snooze ads during high-engagement moments. Use the controls available to your channel and weigh ad opportunity against interruptions for viewers.
Verify and refine the estimate in YouTube Analytics
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Analytics, then the Revenue tab.
- Select the live filter to inspect ad revenue from live streams and live replays.
- Compare periods and formats that resemble the stream you plan to run.
- Use the ad revenue figure for an ad-only estimate; do not substitute total estimated revenue if it includes other sources.
- Recalculate your baseline as more comparable live data becomes available.
Estimated revenue can change after it first appears. YouTube says monthly estimates may be adjusted for invalid traffic, Content ID claims or disputes, and certain ad campaign types, with an initial adjustment after one week and another in the middle of the following month.
