For a YouTube livestream, a practical H.264 starting point is 1080p at 30 fps and 5 Mbps, or 1080p at 60 fps and 6 Mbps, using CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Build a playlist in OBS with VLC Video Source or a compatible playlist plugin, then test it and confirm you have permission to broadcast each exact recording.
Choose the right workflow: live playlist or uploaded file
This guide covers a livestream: OBS plays local song videos in sequence and sends the encoded output to YouTube Live. Marathi is the language of the material, not an encoding specification. Match settings to the source files and the stream you can reliably upload.
If you mean a finished file that you will upload to YouTube, use the separate upload recommendations below. Upload-file bitrates are not the values to enter in OBS for a live stream.
Build a playlist of local videos in OBS
Use VLC Video Source
- Install VLC, then restart OBS if it was already open. OBS community guidance says OBS can detect VLC and enable its VLC Video Source, which supports playlists. Detection and behavior can vary, so confirm the source appears in your installed versions.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video Source to the scene and configure the local files as a playlist. Set the scene canvas and source framing to the output aspect ratio you intend to stream; check that video fills the frame as expected and does not appear stretched or unintentionally cropped.
- Play through the sequence before broadcasting. Check that each item loads, the playlist advances, and looping behaves as you expect. Community guidance says the stream does not automatically stop when the playlist ends; verify current behavior in your OBS version rather than relying on that older forum advice.
Consider a third-party playlist plugin only if its features fit
The OBS Media Playlist Source plugin listing describes playlist editing and shuffle features and lists OBS 31 as its minimum version. Check the author’s current listing for compatibility and support with your installed OBS version before relying on it for a long broadcast. The available information does not establish seamless source replacement or dynamic edits during an active stream.

There is no universal winner: VLC Video Source depends on VLC being installed and detected, while the plugin requires installation and a compatible OBS version. Choose based on the playlist controls you need and what you can verify locally.
Set YouTube Live encoding in OBS
- In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the intended live stream and retrieve its stream URL and stream key. In OBS, select YouTube as the streaming service and enter the URL and key in the stream settings. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Choose H.264 and a live profile that matches the source material and your upload capacity. YouTube’s current live encoder guidance recommends these 1080p H.264 starting values:

These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a guarantee of identical appearance after YouTube processes the stream. Use 30 fps for 30 fps source material as a sensible starting point. Use 60 fps when the source has 60 fps motion and your connection can sustain it. Avoid upscaling a lower-resolution source just to select a larger output.

YouTube says it transcodes live streams into multiple viewer formats, so viewers may receive a rendition different from the encoded input. Check the live encoder settings at YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.
Allow upload-bandwidth headroom
YouTube’s streaming tips recommend about 20% capacity beyond the stream bitrate. For a 5 Mbps stream, that implies at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity for the stream itself; this is the arithmetic application of YouTube’s stated headroom, not a separate published benchmark. Other devices and network traffic need additional capacity. Prefer a reliable connection and check upload conditions during the time you plan to broadcast. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.

Test before going public
Run a test with similar video motion and audio, confirm the playlist advances and loops as intended, check audio levels and synchronization, and review stream health in YouTube Live Control Room before starting a public broadcast. A successful local preview alone does not establish that the internet connection or YouTube ingest is healthy.
Use different settings for a pre-rendered upload
For a finished video uploaded as a file—not an OBS livestream—YouTube’s current upload guidance recommends MP4, H.264, progressive scan, and variable bitrate (VBR). It describes AAC-LC, Opus, or Eclipsa Audio and recommends a 48 kHz audio sample rate. At 1080p, its recommended video bitrates are 8 Mbps at standard frame rates and 12 Mbps at high frame rates. These upload recommendations should not be copied into OBS’s live bitrate field. Consult YouTube’s upload encoding settings for the full specifications.

Confirm rights to every recording
The fact that a song is Marathi does not establish that you can broadcast it. Verify permission for each exact recording and any underlying music or performance rights before streaming. Rights can differ between versions of the same song; the settings and playlist steps above do not resolve whether a particular recording is cleared for your channel.

- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, reopen OBS, and check whether the source is now available. Confirm compatibility with the installed versions.
- Video is cropped, stretched, or surrounded by unexpected space: Check the scene canvas, source dimensions, and framing against the intended output aspect ratio. Avoid stretching a source to fill a mismatched frame.
- The stream buffers or YouTube reports poor health: Check available upload capacity and competing network use. Reduce the stream bitrate or frame rate if the connection cannot sustain the selected profile, then test again with the recommended headroom.
- Motion looks less smooth than the source: Check whether the source is 60 fps and whether the output is set to 60 fps. Use 60 fps only if both the material and connection support it.
- Playlist behavior differs from expectations: Test the full sequence and loop in the exact OBS/VLC or plugin versions you will use. Do not assume that the stream will stop, switch sources seamlessly, or accept playlist edits during broadcast without verifying those behaviors.
- Audio is out of sync or too loud: Listen to the test stream, inspect OBS audio levels, and adjust the source or scene before the public broadcast.
