In YouTube Studio, go to Earn > Supers > Get started, complete the prompts and any Commerce Product Module step, then switch on Super Chat. YouTube documents no separate setting for looped streams.
Check eligibility before changing settings
Super Chat is a paid, highlighted message in live chat. YouTube requires the channel to be in the YouTube Partner Program, the creator to be at least 18, and the channel to be in a location where Super Chat is available. You must also accept and comply with the applicable Commerce Product Module (CPM), or the earlier Commerce Product Addendum if that applies to your channel. Availability and Studio wording can change, so check YouTube’s current Super Chat and Super Stickers eligibility requirements.
The Supers area appears in Studio only when YouTube considers the channel eligible. If it is missing, first check YPP status, age, location and the applicable commerce terms; there is no loop-specific control that makes an ineligible channel eligible.
Turn on Super Chat in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio with the channel that will host the stream.
- In the left menu, select Earn, then open Supers.
- Select Get started and complete the on-screen prompts.
- Review and accept the CPM if Studio asks you to do so.
- Switch on Super Chat. Super Stickers have a separate switch and do not need to be enabled for Super Chat to work.
YouTube’s documented setup applies to live streams generally; its guidance does not specify an additional step for a stream that repeats prerecorded video.

Make sure the individual stream can accept messages
Channel eligibility is not enough: settings on the particular stream or video can prevent Super Chat. YouTube lists these exclusions:
- The stream or video is private or unlisted.
- It is age-restricted or marked Made for Kids.
- It is associated with a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- Live chat or comments are unavailable or turned off.
Review the stream’s visibility, audience designation and chat settings in YouTube Studio before going live. Super Chat depends on live chat, so it will not work when chat is unavailable. YouTube also says chat is not available on embedded players; viewers who cannot see chat in an embed should open the stream’s YouTube watch page. Send the looping stream to YouTube
Enabling Super Chat and sending video are separate tasks. If you use an encoder for the prerecorded loop, follow YouTube’s normal live-stream setup: obtain the YouTube Live server URL and stream key, enter them in the encoder, and start sending the stream. YouTube supports multiple streaming methods and does not require a particular encoder to activate Super Chat. Keep the stream key private; anyone with it may be able to send video to your live stream. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Keep a loop eligible for monetization
A loop is not automatically disqualified, but it is not automatically compliant either. YouTube says monetized content should be original and authentic, and says repetitive or mass-produced content with little variation or viewer value may be ineligible. Its channel monetization policies apply to live streams; reviewers may consider the channel’s main theme, popular and recent uploads, watch-time share and metadata. A repeated video that adds little value can therefore pose a monetization risk even if the stream is technically live.

Use material you created or have the necessary rights to use, including music and other audio. YouTube’s livestream terms make the content provider responsible for obtaining necessary rights, including music licensing rights. Read YouTube channel monetization policies and the YouTube Terms of Service; a Super Chat switch is not approval of a stream’s content or a guarantee of monetization.
Understand the 12-hour archive limitation
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is a replay-preservation issue: YouTube’s archive guidance does not say that crossing 12 hours disables Super Chat during a live broadcast. If keeping the full recording matters, make a local recording rather than relying on the YouTube archive. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
