On a Galaxy phone, open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Mode. Choose One-handed keyboard to move the keys to one side, or Floating keyboard for a smaller keyboard you can reposition. You can also select a mode from Samsung Keyboard’s expanded toolbar.
Choose the layout that suits how you type

| Split | Separates the keys into two sections. Samsung lists it for landscape or wider devices such as tablets and Z Fold devices. (Samsung US) | Typing with both hands on a supported wide screen. |
Enable a mode in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap General management.
- Tap Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Tap Mode.
- Select One-handed keyboard or Floating keyboard.
Samsung documents this path for Galaxy phones. On the one-handed layout, use the keyboard’s left-arrow control to switch the keyboard from the default right-side position to the left. (Samsung US)
Switch modes from the keyboard toolbar
- Open an app with a text field and bring up Samsung Keyboard.
- Expand the keyboard toolbar. Samsung’s current US instructions show a three-horizontal-dots button.
- Tap Modes, then select the layout you want.
The toolbar route can be quicker when the keyboard is already open. Toolbar icons and available options can vary by device and software version. (Samsung Canada)
On a Galaxy tablet
Samsung’s tablet guidance lists Standard, Split, and Floating modes. It also says tablet keyboard size can be adjusted and floating-keyboard transparency can be changed. The documented tablet mode list does not include One-handed keyboard, so do not assume every phone option appears on every tablet. (Samsung US)

Keyboard one-handed mode is not system One-handed mode
Samsung Keyboard’s One-handed keyboard changes only the keyboard’s layout and position. The phone’s separate One-handed mode scales down the display, affecting the app area as well as the rest of the screen.
To configure the system feature, Samsung’s US path is Settings > Advanced features > One-handed mode. Enable its switch, then choose Gesture or Button activation. (Samsung US)

If you cannot find Mode
- Search Settings for Samsung Keyboard, then look for Mode within its settings.
- Open Samsung Keyboard in an app, expand its toolbar, and check for Modes.
- If neither route matches your screen, note that Samsung says screens and settings can differ by wireless service provider and software version. Mode availability and toolbar arrangement are not guaranteed to be identical on every Galaxy device. (Samsung Canada)
