QSSR (Quick Spectral Super Resolution) is a game-level graphics option on standard PS5—not a console-wide switch. To try it, install the latest update for a confirmed supported game, then check that game’s graphics or display settings for QSSR. Sony’s initial confirmed titles are Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei; Sony has not published one universal menu path or said whether QSSR is on by default in either game.

How to check for and enable QSSR

  1. Update the game. From the PS5 home screen, highlight the game, press the options button, and choose Check for Update. Install an available update when prompted. Sony says the initial QSSR titles received game patches, so an older build may not show the option. See Sony’s PS5 game-update instructions.
  2. Look in the game’s settings. Start the updated game and inspect its graphics or display options for QSSR. Sony describes QSSR as an additional graphics option, but has not documented exact menu labels for both games or a system-wide path. The in-game steps may therefore differ by title.
  3. Confirm support from an official source. A current patch or a graphics menu by itself does not establish QSSR compatibility. Check the game’s official patch notes or developer/publisher announcements. Sony’s currently named initial titles are listed below.

A PS5 system update is separate from the game patch. If the console needs one, Sony’s manual path is Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software. Sony’s QSSR announcement says the initial games were patched; it does not say a console system update is the QSSR switch. See Sony’s system software instructions.

Games Sony has confirmed for QSSR

Game What Sony confirms What to check
Marvel’s Wolverine Sony named it as an initial QSSR title and said its PS5 version was patched to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option. Install the game update and inspect its own graphics or display options. Sony has not specified a universal menu sequence or default setting.
Ghost of Yōtei Sony named it as an initial QSSR title and said its PS5 version was patched to offer QSSR as an additional graphics option. Install the game update and inspect its own graphics or display options. Sony has not specified a universal menu sequence or default setting.

This is the initial list Sony named on October 1, 2026, not a statement that only these two games will ever support QSSR. Sony says it plans to offer QSSR broadly to PlayStation developers, but its announcement names no further games or release dates. Check official game updates for new compatibility information. What QSSR does—and what Sony has not measured

Sony describes Quick Spectral Super Resolution as a new performance tier of AI upscaling developed through Project Amethyst, its AI graphics collaboration with AMD. Sony cites a streamlined neural-network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation for PS5, and says QSSR can improve image detail and stability. The announcement provides no resolution, frame-rate, or benchmark figures, so there is no published numeric basis for comparing its performance across games.

Developer comments are descriptions, not independent test results. Mike Fitzgerald, Head of Technology at Insomniac Games, said QSSR adds “more pixel-level clarity and stability” to environments in Marvel’s Wolverine. Jasmin Patry, Lead Rendering Engineer at Sucker Punch Productions, said QSSR will let Ghost of Yōtei players experience the game world with “even more clarity and detail.” Both comments appear in Sony’s announcement.

QSSR is not the PS5 Pro PSSR setting

Do not look for QSSR under the PS5 Pro’s Enhance PSSR Image Quality system setting. Sony documents that control for certain PSSR-compatible games and says it is available only on consoles in the CFI-7000 model group. QSSR, by contrast, is described as an option added through game patches on PS5. Sony’s PS5 resolution guide covers the PSSR setting; the QSSR announcement describes the separate game-level option.
