To enable or disable QSSR, install the latest update for a supported PS5 game, then check that game’s graphics options for a QSSR setting. Sony identifies Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first games to add it. QSSR is an in-game graphics option, not a console-wide PS5 setting; Sony has not published a universal menu path or stated the default setting.

Enable or disable QSSR in a supported game

  1. Update the game. Install the latest patch for Marvel’s Wolverine or Ghost of Yōtei, the first games Sony announced with QSSR support.
  2. Open the game’s graphics options. Look there for a QSSR option. Sony says the patches add QSSR as an additional graphics option, but does not specify its exact menu location or displayed label.
  3. Choose the setting you want. If the game presents an on/off control, use it to enable or disable QSSR. The available official information does not establish the default state; check the current game interface.

Menu details may differ by game or patch. Do not look for a general PS5 system toggle based on PS5 Pro’s PSSR controls: Sony describes QSSR as an option within supported games.

What QSSR is—and how it differs from PSSR

QSSR stands for Quick Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as a new performance tier of AI upscaling derived from PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), developed in the context of Project Amethyst, Sony’s AI graphics collaboration with AMD. Sony says QSSR uses a streamlined neural-network architecture and a hand-tuned implementation for PS5, and is intended to improve image detail and stability.

Keep the platform distinction clear: QSSR is the technology Sony announced for PS5, while PSSR remains its higher-tier offering on PS5 Pro. QSSR is not a setting that upgrades every PS5 game; a game must add support.

Which PS5 games support QSSR?

Sony named Marvel’s Wolverine and Ghost of Yōtei as the first games using the QSSR library. Its English announcement on October 1, 2026, said both were being patched that day to add QSSR as an additional graphics option on PS5. Sony’s Japanese announcement on October 2 likewise describes patches adding QSSR to game graphics settings. Sony says the technology will be offered broadly to PlayStation developers, but those announcements do not identify further released games. Support may expand as titles receive updates.

What to expect when you change the option

Sony’s claim is qualitative: QSSR is intended to improve image detail and stability. Its announcement does not report a measured image-quality gain, frame-rate impact, latency figure, or on/off comparison. It also does not establish which graphics option is best for every player, so use the choices and descriptions provided by the individual game rather than assuming QSSR has a particular performance cost.

Sony’s announcement quotes Mike Fitzgerald, Insomniac Games’ Head of Technology, saying QSSR adds “more pixel-level clarity and stability” to environments in Marvel’s Wolverine. Jasmin Patry, Sucker Punch Productions’ Lead Rendering Engineer, said the feature would bring “even more clarity and detail” to Ghost of Yōtei. These are developer comments published by Sony, not independent benchmark results.
