Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo enable live streaming on a new YouTube channel, verify the channel with a phone number, turn on live streaming in YouTube Studio, then allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. You also need to have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Streaming from a phone has extra requirements, including at least 50 subscribers; computer streaming can use a webcam or encoder.
Before you start
Make sure you can sign in to the YouTube account for the channel and receive a verification code by text message or voice call. YouTube lists a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days as requirements for live streaming. See YouTube’s computer live-streaming requirements and mobile live-streaming requirements.
Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Sign in to the channel you want to stream from.
- Choose the live-streaming option to turn it on. YouTube’s setup overview identifies enabling live streaming as the first setup step. Follow any prompt shown in Studio. YouTube’s computer setup overview.
- Verify the channel if prompted. Enter a phone number, then enter the code YouTube sends by text or provides by voice call. YouTube says phone verification enables live streaming. Verify your YouTube account.
- Wait for first-time activation. It can take up to 24 hours after enabling live streaming before you can start your first stream. YouTube Help.
Choose how to stream
From a computer
Once live streaming is activated, YouTube’s computer setup supports streaming with a webcam or encoding software. Use the webcam option if you want to stream directly from a camera connected to your computer; use an encoder if your setup relies on encoding software. The computer overview does not state a subscriber minimum for these methods. YouTube live streaming tips for computers.
From a phone or tablet
Mobile streaming has additional eligibility requirements: the channel must have at least 50 subscribers, be verified, have live streaming enabled, and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube lists Android 8.0 or later and iOS 8 or later as supported operating-system requirements. The app flow is: open the YouTube app, tap Create, tap Live, enter stream details, and tap Go live. For mobile channels with more than 50 but fewer than 1,000 subscribers, YouTube may limit the audience size, and stream archives default to private. These are mobile-specific notes; do not assume the same subscriber threshold applies to computer streaming. YouTube Help.
If live streaming is still unavailable
- Verification is incomplete: Check whether YouTube prompted you to verify the channel and complete phone verification with the text or voice-call code.
- The channel is still activating: If you enabled streaming recently, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- The channel has a restriction: YouTube requires no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. Check the channel’s status and restrictions in YouTube Studio.
- You are trying to stream from mobile: Confirm the channel has at least 50 subscribers and that your phone or tablet meets YouTube’s listed operating-system requirements. If it does not meet mobile eligibility, computer streaming is a separate option.
