You cannot enable an official dark-mode setting on Pinterest Web or Pinterest’s desktop site. Pinterest’s Help Center states, “Dark mode is not currently available on the desktop version of Pinterest.” The supported dark-mode control is in the Android and iOS apps, where Pinterest follows your phone or tablet’s system appearance setting. If you are using a computer, you can only use an unofficial browser-based workaround, not a Pinterest setting.
Is dark mode available on Pinterest Web?
No. As of the Pinterest Help Center page accessed September 29, 2026, Pinterest does not provide a dark-mode switch on its desktop website. There is no documented setting under your account, profile, accessibility, appearance, or preferences that changes Pinterest Web to a dark theme. The official wording is explicit: “Dark mode is not currently available on the desktop version of Pinterest.” See the Pinterest Help article on dark mode for the current availability statement.
This applies whether you open Pinterest in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, or another desktop browser. Turning on Windows, macOS, or Linux dark mode also does not create a Pinterest Web toggle. Your operating system can darken menus and browser controls while the Pinterest page itself remains in its normal theme.

How to turn on dark mode in the Pinterest mobile app
These steps change the appearance of the Pinterest app, not the desktop website. Pinterest says the app follows the dark-mode choice made in your device’s operating system.

Android 10 and newer
- Open your Android device’s Settings app.
- Tap Display (the exact wording can vary slightly by manufacturer).
- Select Dark under the device theme or appearance options.
- Reopen Pinterest if it was already running. The app should follow the new system setting.
If Pinterest still looks light, confirm that you changed the system theme rather than an individual app theme, then force-close and reopen Pinterest. Manufacturer-specific themes, scheduled appearance changes, or an outdated app can affect when the new setting appears.
Android 9 and older
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open quick settings.
- Tap Battery Saver.
- Open Pinterest and check its appearance.
Pinterest’s help instructions identify Battery Saver as the route for Android 9 and older. Android manufacturers implement this mode differently, so the visual result can vary. If your device does not change Pinterest’s appearance, its software may not expose the behavior described by Pinterest’s older-device instructions.
iOS 13 or newer
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display & Brightness.
- Under Appearance, choose Dark.
- Return to Pinterest. If the app was open during the change, close and reopen it.
Pinterest documents dark mode for iOS 13 and newer. The setting is controlled by iOS, so Pinterest does not need a separate in-app switch for the supported behavior.
What you can do on Pinterest Web instead
Use a browser dark-theme or page-filter extension
A browser extension that applies a dark stylesheet, color filter, or forced-dark rendering can make Pinterest Web appear darker. This is a third-party workaround, not a Pinterest feature. Pinterest’s official help page does not recommend a particular extension or document its security, privacy, compatibility, or continued availability.

If you choose this route, reduce the risk of an unpleasant surprise:
- Install only from your browser’s official extension store and check the publisher, permissions, update history, and privacy policy.
- Prefer an extension that can be limited to
pinterest.cominstead of reading every site you visit. - Review whether it can read page contents, browsing history, or data entered into websites. Those permissions are broader than a simple color adjustment requires.
- Test Pinterest’s home feed, pin detail pages, boards, messages, menus, and the image viewer. Dark filters can make text, icons, product colors, and image previews inaccurate.
- Disable the extension temporarily when a pin looks wrong, a button becomes unreadable, or Pinterest reports a display problem.
- Keep a backup of any custom rules before uninstalling or changing the extension. Browser updates and Pinterest redesigns can invalidate site-specific styling.
Because Pinterest does not publish a desktop dark-mode API or setting, an extension can stop working without notice. Treat it as a convenience layer that changes what your browser renders, not as a supported Pinterest account preference.
Use your operating system’s contrast or color tools
Windows, macOS, and Linux provide accessibility tools such as high contrast, color filters, and screen inversion. These can reduce brightness across the whole desktop, but they are not Pinterest dark mode and may alter photos, videos, and other applications. Use them when you need system-wide contrast assistance rather than a Pinterest-specific theme.
Troubleshooting
“I cannot find a Dark mode option in Pinterest Web”
That is expected. Pinterest’s official desktop documentation says the feature is unavailable, so there is no menu path to follow. Do not keep searching account settings for a switch that Pinterest does not currently provide.

“My phone is in dark mode, but Pinterest is still light”
- Verify that you are using the Pinterest app, not a mobile browser tab.
- Check your platform version: Pinterest specifies Android behavior for Android 10 and newer and iOS behavior for iOS 13 or newer; its older-Android instruction uses Battery Saver.
- Close and reopen Pinterest after changing the system appearance.
- Turn off a battery-saving, display, or accessibility app that may be overriding the system theme.
- Update Pinterest from your device’s app store. If the issue continues, switch the system theme to Light, restart the device, then select Dark again.
“A dark-mode extension makes Pinterest unreadable”
Open the extension’s site controls and exclude Pinterest, or disable it for the current page. Forced-dark algorithms can invert pin artwork and interfere with CSS that Pinterest changes over time. If the extension requests new permissions after an update, review them before accepting.
“Pinterest looks dark in one browser but not another”
That difference normally comes from extensions, experimental browser flags, cached styles, or accessibility filters. Compare the page in a private window with extensions disabled. If the normal page returns, re-enable tools one at a time to identify the cause.
