Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesShort answer: social platforms generally do not offer a universal “send comments to Google Docs” command. Export comments with a platform-compatible tool as Google Sheets, CSV, or JSON, check what was actually retrieved, and then copy the selected rows into a Google Doc. Keep the original export unchanged and clearly label any edited copy.
What you can and cannot export directly
Google’s own Drive export controls apply to data already stored in Google products. A Drive export can include Google Docs text plus open and resolved comments and suggestions, although work or school accounts may restrict downloads and very large files can fail. That is different from importing comments from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or X. For social comments, extraction happens first, and Google Docs is usually the final presentation layer.
Your result depends on the platform, whether you manage the account, the visibility of each comment, sign-in state, rate limits, deleted or restricted content, and the exporter’s limits. Do not promise “all comments” until you inspect the export report and compare counts.
Choose the right route
| Route | Best fit | Output | Important checks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sudota Google Workspace Marketplace add-on | A Facebook Page, Instagram business profile, or YouTube channel that you manage | Google Sheets | Sign in for the most complete set; check daily quota, paid refresh availability, and platform-specific support for streams or replies. |
| Downthread Chrome extension | Comments and replies on one Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or X post | Local CSV or JSON | The listing states a free limit of 200 comments per post; a subscription removes that limit. Review its report for platform-claimed counts, exported counts, and shortfall reasons. |
| ZocialComment web service | Vendor-described exports from supported social URLs | CSV, Excel, or JSON | Verify current platform support, access requirements, fees, and privacy terms. Its feature, performance, pricing, and displayed metrics are vendor claims. |
Use a managed-account Sheets workflow when you own the page or channel and want a collaborative spreadsheet. Choose a local CSV/JSON exporter when you need a file for archiving or another data pipeline. JSON preserves structure but normally needs transformation before it reads well in a document.

Before you export
- Identify the exact source. Record the platform, post or video URL, publication date, and whether you need top-level comments, replies, or both.
- Confirm access. For a managed-account add-on, you must manage the relevant Facebook Page, Instagram business profile, or YouTube channel. A browser extension can only read what your signed-in session can see.
- Define the fields. Decide whether the document needs author name, comment text, timestamp, like count, reply relationship, profile link, moderation status, or post metadata.
- Plan privacy. Remove usernames, profile links, or other personal details that are not necessary. Set the Google Doc’s sharing to the smallest audience that needs it.
Method 1: Export managed comments to Google Sheets, then Docs
Sudota’s Marketplace listing describes a Sheets add-on for Facebook Pages, Instagram business profiles, and YouTube channels. It limits retrieval to pages or channels you manage and lets you identify posts by link or select published or advertising posts.
- Open Google Sheets and install the Sudota add-on from Google Workspace Marketplace.
- Authorize the add-on and sign in to the relevant social account. The listing says signing in provides the most complete set available to the tool.
- Select the managed page or channel, then choose a post or paste its link.
- Run the import and wait for the sheet to populate. Treat refresh as a separate capability: the listing describes comment refreshing as paid and a free daily quota.
- Inspect rows for missing replies, duplicate entries, timestamps, author fields, and any warning or quota message.
- Keep the original sheet as your source record. Duplicate it before sorting, filtering, redacting, or deduplicating.
- In the cleaned sheet, select the required range, copy it, open a Google Doc, and paste. Choose “Paste unlinked” when the document should not change with later sheet edits; choose a linked paste only when a maintained connection is useful.
- Add a heading containing the platform, post URL, export date, and notes about filters or redactions.
Sudota’s listing also describes replies from Sheets for Facebook and Instagram and streams for Facebook Pages and Instagram business profiles. These are platform-specific capabilities, not a guarantee that every feature applies to every network.
Method 2: Download CSV or JSON with a browser exporter
Downthread’s Chrome Web Store listing describes local exports for Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and X. It says the extension runs locally and displays an export report showing platform-claimed counts, exported counts, and reasons for shortfalls.
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store and review its requested permissions before enabling it.
- Sign in to the social platform in the same browser profile.
- Open the exact post or video and load comments and replies as far as the platform allows. Lazy-loaded or collapsed threads may not be visible until expanded.
- Start the extension’s export and select CSV for spreadsheet review or JSON for structured processing.
- Save the untouched file with a date and source identifier, such as youtube-video-2026-09-29-original.json.
- Read the export report. If exported counts are lower than platform-claimed counts, record the stated reason instead of describing the file as complete.
- For CSV, open or import the file in Google Sheets, check columns and encoding, then copy the chosen rows into Docs. For JSON, convert or flatten the fields first; pasting raw JSON usually produces a poor reader-facing document.
The listing states a free limit of 200 comments per post, with a subscription removing that limit. Limits and store details can change, so verify the current listing before planning a large collection.

Method 3: Use a web export service
ZocialComment describes CSV, Excel, and JSON exports for multiple platforms. Because its support, pricing, performance descriptions, and displayed usage metrics are vendor claims, verify the current terms and privacy policy before uploading account data or relying on a completeness promise.
- Confirm that the service supports your platform, URL type, and required comment/reply fields.
- Check whether the URL is public or whether account sign-in is required.
- Run a small export first and compare several known comments manually.
- Download the file, preserve the original, and import or transform it before copying selected content to Docs.
Make the Google Doc useful
Recommended structure
- Title: platform and post or video name.
- Source: clickable post URL, account/page name, and publication date.
- Export record: tool, export date and time, file name, and account used.
- Coverage note: whether replies were included, filters applied, and any reported shortfall.
- Comments table: author, timestamp, text, reply-to identifier, reactions, and moderation note only when available.
Cleaning without losing evidence
Never overwrite the source file. Make a working copy, preserve the original comment text, and put edits in separate columns or brackets. Deduplicate only when you can explain the rule—for example, identical text from the same author and timestamp. Keep a note when usernames were removed for privacy.
Completeness, privacy, and compliance checks
- Count comparison: compare the platform’s visible count, exporter-reported count, and rows in your file.
- Thread coverage: confirm whether replies are separate rows and retain a parent-comment ID when supplied.
- Visibility: private, deleted, moderated, age-restricted, region-limited, or login-only comments may not be retrievable.
- Rate limits: repeated requests can produce partial results or temporary blocks; slow down and follow the tool’s limits.
- Sharing: restrict the Doc, remove unnecessary personal data, and avoid publishing profile links unless there is a clear reason.
Troubleshooting
The export is empty
Confirm the URL is the actual post or video, not a profile or shortened redirect. Sign in again, check that the content is visible to your account, and verify that the tool supports that platform and post type.
Only some comments appear
Expand replies and scroll or load more comments before starting a browser export. Then compare counts and read the tool’s shortfall explanation. Private, deleted, restricted, or rate-limited comments cannot be recovered merely by copying the file.

Replies are mixed with top-level comments
Use the parent ID, indentation, or reply-to field if provided. If the export has no relationship field, preserve the original order and add a manual “reply to” note rather than guessing.
CSV text is garbled
Import the file into Google Sheets instead of opening it directly, and select UTF-8 when an encoding choice is offered. Check commas, quotation marks, line breaks, and emoji before copying to Docs.
Google Sheets quota or refresh fails
Check the add-on’s daily allowance and whether refresh is a paid feature. Export a smaller selection, wait for the quota window, or use a compatible CSV/JSON route.
The Google Doc layout breaks
Paste a limited range, use a Docs table for short exports, or create one heading per source and place long comment text in paragraphs. Keep the data file linked or attached separately when the document would become unwieldy.

If your goal is a clean image or PDF of a public comments page rather than a row-by-row dataset, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; those steps can be disabled. Only clean shots are billed: bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and each response reports the page verdict and billing status in headers.
One GET request returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. The API supports full-page capture, selectors, device and retina settings, waiting rules, custom CSS or JavaScript, cookies and headers, blocking, resizing, caching, signed links, asynchronous webhooks, bulk capture, and PDF options. Its MCP tools—take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf—work with Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options. Example:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com/comments -o comments.webp
ScreenshotNeo’s free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. This captures what is rendered on the page, not a structured export of every hidden comment, so use an exporter when you need searchable rows. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

For a managed account and collaborative review, a Sheets add-on is usually the shortest path. For a local archive, CSV or JSON avoids putting the raw export into another service. For a visual record, an API screenshot or PDF is simpler but cannot replace structured comment data. In every case, run a small, known sample first, preserve the original, document the coverage, and only then produce the shareable Doc.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download Instagram comments directly into Google Docs?
Not as a universal native command. Export them with a compatible tool, review the result in Sheets or a downloaded file, and copy the selected content into Docs.
Is CSV better than JSON for a Google Doc?
CSV is easier to inspect in Sheets. JSON is better for structured processing, but it normally needs flattening or conversion before it is document-friendly.
How do I prove that an export contains every comment?
You cannot assume completeness. Compare visible and exporter-reported counts, inspect replies and warnings, and record inaccessible or missing categories.
