After Awesome Screenshot captures an image, click Download beside the screenshot to save it to your computer. If you used Local capture, download it before closing the capture tab or window; an undownloaded Local capture cannot be retrieved after that window closes, according to the Awesome Screenshot Help Center.
Download a screenshot from Local or Cloud capture
Local capture
- When the capture is complete, click Download beside the screenshot.
- Wait for the browser download to finish, then open it from the browser’s downloads list or the destination folder.
Download a Local capture before closing its tab or window. If you close the window first, Awesome Screenshot says it cannot retrieve that undownloaded capture.
Cloud capture
- After capture, click Download beside the screenshot to save a local copy.
- If you did not download it then, sign in and look under My Items. Cloud captures are usually available there later if they have not been moved.
Automatically download Local captures in Chrome or Edge
The Awesome Screenshot Chrome and Edge extensions offer an Auto-download screenshots option for Local captures. It is off by default. When enabled, the extension downloads captures without requiring you to click Download each time.
- Open Awesome Screenshot’s Options.
- In the Local settings, turn on Auto-download screenshots.
- If the browser asks for permission to Manage your downloads, click Allow.
Auto-download trades convenience for fewer post-capture choices: the capture interface no longer shows the usual controls, including PDF, Copy and Print. Turn Auto-download off in the Local settings if you need those controls; then download manually from the capture screen.

Save a screenshot as a PDF
Cloud capture
Choose More beside the screenshot, then select Download as PDF. The Help Center says the PDF is saved to the computer’s default Downloads folder.
Local capture
Click PDF beside the screenshot after capture. If that control is missing, turn off Auto-download so the post-capture controls are shown. The Help Center says the default destination is Downloads and that you can choose another folder.

Find or change the downloaded file’s folder
For Local screenshots, the browser’s download location sets the base folder. Awesome Screenshot’s Options can also specify a subfolder under Downloads. In Chrome, the extension subfolder is appended to the browser’s chosen path: the Help Center’s example combines D:Test with Screenshots to produce D:TestScreenshots.
To change where files go, update the browser’s download location, or adjust the extension’s subfolder setting in Options. The exact browser settings path can vary by version, so use the browser’s Downloads settings if the labels differ.

Troubleshoot missing or unexpected downloads
- The Local capture disappeared: The capture window may have been closed before downloading. Awesome Screenshot says it cannot retrieve an undownloaded Local capture after that window closes.
- The file went to the wrong folder: Check both the browser’s download location and Awesome Screenshot’s subfolder setting. The subfolder may be appended to the browser’s base path.
- The subfolder is not being used as expected: The Help Center notes another extension may conflict. To investigate, create a new browser profile with only Awesome Screenshot installed and try again.
- The PDF button is missing: Auto-download may be enabled. Turn it off in the Local settings to restore the post-capture controls.
- The downloaded image looks lower quality than its preview: Awesome Screenshot suggests copying and pasting the screenshot before clicking Done or Capture, or downloading as JPG or PDF instead of PNG. These are the vendor’s suggestions, not independently tested fixes.
