To download a picture saved in your Google Photos library, open it, choose More, then Download. On a computer, do this at photos.google.com; on a phone or tablet, use the Google Photos app. If you want your whole library, use Google Takeout instead. Saving an image from Google Search Images is a different task, and downloading a file does not grant permission to reuse it.
Download one picture from Google Photos
Google’s download action makes a local copy of a photo or video on your device. The exact steps depend on whether you are using a computer or the mobile app.
On a computer
- Go to photos.google.com and sign in to the Google Account that contains the item.
- Select the photo or video.
- Choose More, then Download.
Google’s computer instructions describe this as copying photos and videos to your device.
On Android
- Open the Google Photos app and select the photo or video.
- Tap More, then Download.
If the item is already stored on that Android device, Google says the Download option will not appear. See Google’s Android instructions.

On iPhone or iPad
- Open Google Photos and select the photo or video.
- Tap More, then Download.
If the item is already in the device’s camera roll, Google says it cannot be downloaded from Photos again using this action. See Google’s iPhone and iPad instructions.
Download your whole Google Photos library
For a large collection, use Google Takeout rather than downloading items one by one. Sign in, select Google Photos data, continue through the export options, choose a delivery method and archive format, then create the export. Depending on how much account information is included, Google says archive creation may take from a few minutes to a few days. The archive may not reflect changes made after the request and before it is created.

Google offers an email download link and delivery to certain cloud storage services. Its guidance recommends downloading and viewing Takeout exports on a desktop computer. Choose a destination with enough free space for the export and that you can store safely; for a large archive, an additional local drive is one possible destination, but estimate the needed capacity from your actual export.

If you mean an image in Google Search
Google Photos instructions apply to pictures in your own Photos library, not to saving an image displayed in Google Search Images. The Google help pages linked here do not document that browser workflow. Also, downloading an image—whether from Search or Photos—does not establish that you may republish or otherwise reuse it. Check the owner’s terms or obtain permission through an appropriate route before using someone else’s image publicly.

Troubleshooting
Download is missing on Android
Google says the option is not shown when the photo or video is already on the device. Check the device’s local photos and videos before trying another export.
The item is already in the iPhone or iPad camera roll
Google says the Photos download action cannot download that item again when it is already in the camera roll.

The Takeout export is too large or fails
Google’s Takeout guidance suggests trying a smaller export or selecting fewer product files. If you are downloading to a device, confirm that the destination has room for the archive.
A downloaded video will not work in another app
Google notes that a sharing app may not accept the downloaded video’s format. Convert it to a format that app supports, or share a Google Photos link instead.
