To download a normal webpage as a PDF on an iPhone, open it in Safari, tap the Page Menu and Share (or Share directly, depending on your tab layout), choose Markup, then tap More → Done → Save File To. Pick a folder, name the file, and tap Save. This is built into iOS, costs nothing, and lets you annotate the page before creating the PDF.
Save a webpage as a PDF in Safari
These steps apply when you are viewing a regular HTML webpage, not a PDF that is already open in Safari. Apple documents the workflow in its Safari Markup and PDF guide.
- Open the page in Safari. Load the article, form, recipe, receipt, or other page you want to keep. Wait for the content you need to finish loading.
- Open Safari’s sharing controls. Tap the Page Menu button in the address bar, then tap Share. If your Safari tabs are set to the Top or Bottom layout, Apple may show Share directly; use that button instead of looking for a separate Page Menu.
- Choose Markup. In the share sheet, tap Markup. Safari prepares a PDF preview of the webpage.
- Add optional notes. Use Markup’s pen, highlighter, text, shape, signature, or eraser tools if you want to mark the page. Your annotations will be included in the PDF you save.
- Open the save command. Tap More, tap Done, and choose Save File To.
- Name and save the file. Enter a filename, select a destination, and tap Save.
If a label or button is not where you expect it, check the alternate Page Menu/Share route first. Safari’s tab layout changes which control is displayed, but the Markup and Save File To workflow is the same.
Choose where the PDF is saved
The Save File To dialog determines the destination for the PDF you just created. Common choices include:

- iCloud Drive: Stores the file in iCloud so it can be opened on Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account.
- On My iPhone: Keeps the file in local iPhone storage. It is available without an internet connection, subject to free device space.
- Other: Lets you select another configured location, such as a third-party Files provider.
Safari’s download settings describe where Safari downloads are stored, including iCloud Drive, On My iPhone, and Other. That setting is separate from the destination picker shown while saving the newly created PDF. For Apple’s settings details, see Customize your Safari settings on iPhone.
Find the file later
Open the Files app and browse to the folder you selected. Use the search field if you remember part of the filename but not the folder. In iCloud Drive, the PDF will also appear on your other Apple devices using the same Apple Account after synchronization completes.
What the Safari PDF contains
Safari creates a PDF representation of the webpage at the time you use Markup. The result is a portable file you can read, send, print, or annotate in a PDF app. Dynamic elements may not behave like they did on the live site: videos, interactive forms, login sessions, and scripts are captured as a document rather than preserved as working webpage controls.

For a cleaner result, wait until images and expandable sections you need are visible before opening Share. If a page uses a reader view, you can enable it first when available; this can reduce navigation clutter, but it may also remove page elements you wanted to preserve.

An already-open PDF follows a different route. You are downloading the PDF file itself, not converting a normal webpage.
- Open the PDF in Safari.
- Tap the Page Menu or Share control.
- Tap Save to Files.
- Choose a folder, enter a filename if prompted, and tap Save.
Apple describes this separate procedure in Download a PDF from Safari to your iPhone. If you see Markup, you are likely in the webpage-conversion workflow; if you see Save to Files for the open document, you are saving an existing PDF.

Troubleshooting Safari PDF saves
Markup is missing
Confirm that you opened the share sheet for a regular webpage. Scroll through the share-sheet actions if necessary. If the page is already a PDF, use Save to Files instead. Also check that you are using Safari’s current Page Menu or Share control for your selected tab layout.
The page is cut off or looks incomplete
Return to the page, wait for lazy-loaded images or other content to appear, then create the PDF again. Expand sections you need before sharing. A webpage’s responsive layout can differ from its desktop layout, so rotate the iPhone or adjust the page before opening Markup if the mobile rendering is unsuitable.

The PDF did not appear in Files
Reopen Files and check the exact location selected in Save File To. Look in both iCloud Drive and On My iPhone if you are unsure which was chosen. Search by the filename. If iCloud Drive is still synchronizing, give it a moment and check again.

There is not enough storage
Choose iCloud Drive or another available Files location instead of local storage, or remove unneeded local files. A very long page with many images can produce a larger PDF than a short article.
The share sheet does not respond
Wait for the page to finish loading, close a stalled tab, and try again. If the site requires a login, make sure the session is still active. For a page blocked by a network, content filter, or bot check, Safari may not have a complete document to render.
Links, videos, or forms do not work in the PDF
That is expected for many webpage-to-PDF conversions. The PDF is a captured document, not a live browser session. Keep the original URL as a bookmark when you need interactive behavior.

- Open the saved file in Files and skim every page.
- Confirm that required images, headings, and annotations are present.
- Check the filename and folder so recipients can locate it.
- For sensitive pages, remember that the PDF is a separate copy that may remain in backups or shared locations.
- Keep the original webpage link when the reader may need current information or interactive controls.
