To keep the current game clear while rerunning VODs on YouTube Live, update two separate things when the game changes: the stream’s title in YouTube Studio and, if you want the game name visible in the video itself, an on-screen text label in OBS. The YouTube title is stream metadata; the OBS label is part of the broadcast image and will appear in the replay.

Choose where viewers should see the game title

Display method Where it appears How to change it Appears in replay?
YouTube stream title As the title on the YouTube live event Edit the stream metadata in YouTube Studio It identifies the live event; edit the finished replay separately if needed
OBS text overlay Inside the video image Edit the OBS Text Source or the file it reads Yes. The text is rendered into the broadcast image

Use both if you want the game name in the live page title and visibly over the rerun. Changing one does not automatically change the other.

Set up VOD playback and an optional overlay in OBS

  1. Open the scene used for the rerun. Add the VOD as a Media Source. OBS Media Source supports local video files and includes a Loop option for repeating a file. If you want to play a playlist, OBS also supports a VLC Video source, which requires VLC to be installed. See OBS Media Sources.
  2. Add the game label if you want it inside the video. In the scene’s Sources panel, add a Text Source above the VOD source. OBS provides Text (GDI+) for Windows and Text (Freetype 2) for macOS and Linux. Enter the game name directly, or enable “Read from file” to use an external text file as the label’s source. See OBS Text Sources.
  3. Position and check the text. Place it where it remains readable without covering important gameplay or other essential content. Preview the scene before going live.
  4. Start the rerun using your usual YouTube encoder workflow. These OBS playback steps do not establish that you have permission to rebroadcast a VOD. Confirm that the video and any included audio are cleared for your intended use.

Change the YouTube title when the game changes

For an encoder or mobile stream, YouTube lets you set metadata when creating the stream or edit it from the stream’s settings in Live Control Room. The precise controls depend on the selected stream; open the active stream or scheduled stream and use its visible Edit or stream-settings control. YouTube’s encoder/mobile guidance does not cover webcam streams. See Manage live stream settings.

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and select the active or scheduled stream.
  2. Open its Edit or stream-settings controls.
  3. Update the title to identify the game currently being rerun. Choose the Gaming stream type where appropriate.
  4. Save the metadata changes. If you use an OBS overlay too, update that separately.

YouTube says tags have minimal impact on discovery except where they help with commonly misspelled terms. Use an accurate title and the appropriate stream type rather than relying on tags to carry the game identification. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.

Keep the overlay and metadata in sync

When the rerun moves to a different game, update the YouTube title and OBS label independently. If the Text Source reads from a file, change the text in that file; if the text was entered directly, edit the source. Then update the stream metadata in YouTube Studio. The OBS label changes the encoded picture, not YouTube’s title field; the documented workflow does not establish automatic synchronization between the two.

Edit the archived replay after the broadcast

YouTube archives live streams by default, and a finished replay appears as a video. You can edit its title or category separately in YouTube Studio under Content and the video’s details. YouTube documents a 100-character limit for video titles. See Edit video settings and YouTube live stream archives.

If you streamed with a webcam rather than an encoder or mobile workflow, YouTube has separate webcam controls; it says webcam stream settings can be changed while live or when not live, and streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. See Create a live stream with a webcam.

Common problems and fixes

  • The live page shows the old game, but the video label is right. The OBS overlay and YouTube metadata are separate. Edit the stream’s title in YouTube Studio.
  • The video label is stale, but the YouTube title is right. Edit the OBS Text Source, or update its text file if it reads from one.
  • The title edit controls described here are missing. The encoder/mobile help path is not the webcam path. Check which streaming method is selected and use the corresponding Live Control Room or webcam controls.
  • The replay still has the old title. Treat the finished archive as a video: open it in YouTube Studio and edit its details separately.
  • A playlist does not appear as expected in OBS. VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. For a local single-file rerun, use Media Source and enable Loop if you want that file repeated.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube rerun that should continue without leaving a computer or home connection on, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. You can still manage the YouTube stream title in Live Control Room; an in-video label is a separate visual element. StreamNeo streams your uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. It can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card.
