Yes. To show different video files during one continuing YouTube Live event, send a continuous feed from an encoder such as OBS and switch the media shown in that feed. For a sequence of local files, OBS’s VLC Video Source can play a playlist. A YouTube playlist is for viewer playback; it does not make a live broadcast cycle through its items.
Why a YouTube playlist does not change the live broadcast
A YouTube playlist and a YouTube Live encoder feed do different jobs. YouTube’s Loop control repeats a video or playlist for someone watching in the YouTube player. It does not send playlist items into an existing live broadcast. The live event displays what your encoder is currently sending.
That distinction is why you can change the video without ending the event: put the media in your encoder output, then change the source or scene while continuing to send the feed.
Set up multiple videos in OBS
- Create or open a YouTube Live event. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, set up the event and connect OBS using the stream URL and stream key provided for the event. Keep the key private.
- Make an OBS scene for the live output. In OBS, add a VLC Video Source to the scene, then add the local media files you want to play to its playlist. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source to be available.
- Choose playlist behavior. Set the order or enable shuffle. Turn on Loop Playlist only if you want the sequence to repeat. OBS also provides visibility behavior for whether the source stops, pauses, or continues when hidden; choose the behavior that fits how you plan to switch scenes or sources.
- Start sending the feed and change its content. Start the encoder output to YouTube. To show another video, advance the VLC playlist or switch to a scene/source containing the next video. Leave the encoder output running. This is an implementation based on the documented encoder workflow and OBS source controls; neither guarantees every handoff will be interruption-free.
- Preview and monitor the broadcast. Before relying on the setup, test with a private or unlisted stream and check the Live Control Room preview. During the event, monitor stream health, picture, and sound.
Choose the OBS source for your playback pattern

These are media files fed into OBS. The documented setup does not establish that pasting a YouTube playlist link into VLC Video Source is a supported or reliable way to rebroadcast those videos.

What to expect when switching videos
Keep the encoder feed running while OBS changes the content it sends. YouTube’s encoder instructions distinguish stopping the encoder feed from ending the event: YouTube Help says, “To end the stream, click End Stream and stop sending content from your encoder.” Changing a media source is not the same as ending the live event.
Do not assume a switch will be seamless. YouTube defines latency as the delay between capture by the encoder or camera and playback for viewers; lower latency can mean more buffering. Its guidance does not quantify how an OBS media-source change affects a particular broadcast. Test transitions, including picture and audio, before a public stream.

Troubleshooting common problems
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, then check OBS’s source options again.
- The broadcast keeps showing the same video: Confirm that the intended VLC playlist is loaded and that you are advancing it, or switch to the scene/source containing the next clip. A YouTube player playlist will not change the encoder feed.
- The next item does not start as expected: Review the playlist order, shuffle, Loop Playlist, and visibility settings in the VLC Video Source. Test the sequence in a private or unlisted event.
- The live event ends when you change content: Check that OBS is still sending its output and that you have not selected End Stream in the Live Control Room. Changing the OBS scene or media source should be done without stopping the encoder feed.
- Viewers report a gap, buffering, or missing audio: Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and verify audio and video during a test. The available guidance does not promise gap-free transitions.
