Use YouTube Shopping tags for the clickable catalog, but treat your connected store and product feed—not the live-stream panel—as the source of the current price. Update the store and its Merchant Center data together, and if a price changes during a broadcast, say or show the new price clearly. YouTube warns that edits made while live may not reach viewers who are already watching.
How changing prices appear in a YouTube Live catalog
Viewers can open the Shopping control to browse products tagged in eligible live content; some eligible streams may also show product shelves. A product listing can lead to a preview or redirect to the retailer’s store. YouTube Help notes that “Product information is determined by the retailer and may change.” The retailer’s page controls the purchase details, including the current price and conditions. YouTube’s live tagging guidance explains how creators tag products; availability depends on Shopping support and whether an item can be shipped to the viewer.
Creators can arrange tagged products and feature one by pinning it. The exact capability and controls vary by interface: YouTube’s documented Android flow describes pinning one item, while computer guidance describes pinning items. Do not assume every viewer sees the same catalog state or that a change made during the stream refreshes an already-open panel.
Set up prices before going live
- Update the retailer’s product page first. Set the offered price and applicable currency and conditions in the store. The landing page is where viewers complete or investigate the purchase.
- Sync the product data source. Send the matching price to Google Merchant Center through the connected store integration, a scheduled product upload, or Merchant API, as applicable. Google Merchant Center’s price guidance requires submitted price data to match the landing page and structured data; mismatches can lead to product disapproval.
- Check the landing page and feed together. Verify that the price and currency shown on the page and in its structured data match the submitted product data. A store edit alone does not guarantee that the connected catalog has already updated.
- Tag and arrange products in YouTube Studio. Select the products for the live content, put them in a useful order, and pin the featured item using the controls available on your device. YouTube recommends completing product tagging at least 30 minutes before the broadcast.
- Confirm the viewer-facing result before the event. Check that the tagged products and displayed product information are correct in the supported region and viewing context. Shopping visibility can depend on viewer location, shipping availability, and device.
What to do if a price changes during the broadcast
- Change the price in the retailer’s store, then send the corresponding update to the connected Merchant Center data source using its normal sync, upload, or API process.
- Check the product page and structured data against the submitted price and currency.
- State the revised price clearly on screen or aloud, including material conditions such as eligibility or offer limits. Keep the callout consistent with the retailer’s page.
- Do not promise that a live catalog edit has instantly refreshed every viewer’s panel. YouTube says some edits made during a live broadcast may not be visible to people already watching; allow for propagation and direct viewers to the retailer page for current purchase details.
The on-screen or spoken callout is a practical way to inform viewers, not a YouTube synchronization feature. It cannot correct a stale merchant feed or guarantee that the catalog itself has updated.

Price drops, promotions, and sales annotations
YouTube documents several deal presentations: merchant promotions, a sales-price annotation, and a price-drop badge. A price-drop badge compares the current listing with the lowest listed price during the preceding 30 days; updating the store price can trigger the badge. Promotions and annotations use supported Shopify or Google Merchant Center workflows, depending on the deal type. YouTube’s deal-display guidance says availability depends on retailer eligibility, region, and viewer device; the described deal displays are for viewers on mobile devices in supported regions.
These displays depend on retailer data and eligibility, so do not call a price “live” or promise an instant badge or annotation unless the specific merchant integration and viewer-side result have been confirmed. Verify the current setup in the store and YouTube Studio.

Why a YouTube catalog can show an old price
- The store changed but the feed did not. Check the connected platform’s sync status, scheduled upload, or Merchant API update path.
- The page and product data disagree. Compare the landing page, structured data, and submitted Merchant Center price and currency. Google may disapprove products when these values do not match.
- The edit has not reached viewers already watching. A live catalog change may not appear to existing viewers immediately. State the updated price directly and allow time for propagation.
- Automatic item updates are being treated as the update process. Google describes them as a way to correct some mismatches, not a replacement for routine product-data updates. They may not work for products whose prices change more than once per day, and Google can disapprove an item if it detects a mismatch.
- The viewer cannot see the tag or deal display. Check Shopping availability, viewer region, shipping eligibility, device, and retailer eligibility; these can affect what appears.
Affiliate commission is separate from the displayed price
Eligible creators in YouTube’s Shopping affiliate program may earn commissions on purchases of tagged products. The rate shown in Studio is an estimate, and the payout reflects the rate on the purchase date; merchant rates may change between tagging and purchase. Check current product and account details rather than stating a fixed commission. YouTube’s Shopping affiliate guidance describes the program and connected merchant workflows; it does not establish that every store or software has a general affiliate program.
