Disconnecting a crypto wallet from a decentralized app (dapp) removes its connection permission, but it does not revoke token allowances you previously approved. Do both checks separately: disconnect the dapp in your wallet, then inspect and revoke any on-chain approvals you no longer want.
What disconnecting a wallet does—and does not do
A wallet connection lets a dapp see your public address. Since blockchain activity is public, the dapp can also view activity associated with that address. Depending on the permissions you grant, it may be able to suggest transactions for you to review.
A token approval, also called an allowance, is different: it is an on-chain permission for a smart contract to access a specified token, sometimes up to a specified amount. Some approvals are effectively unlimited. MetaMask explains that a dapp needs an approval to access and move tokens; disconnecting the dapp does not erase an approval already granted. The allowance remains until a separate transaction changes it. MetaMask’s explanation of token approvals

MetaMask Extension
- Open the account menu.
- Select Dapp connections.
- Choose the dapp you want to disconnect, then select Disconnect.
MetaMask Mobile
- Open Explore and visit the dapp.
- Tap the account icon.
- Choose Disconnect all.
To clear all dapp connections for the selected account, MetaMask documents the path Settings > Security & Privacy > Clear privacy data. This removes connection permissions; it is not a token-allowance revocation. See MetaMask’s connection and allowance guidance.
Check token approvals on each relevant network
Approval records are specific to a network. Check every network on which you used the wallet or approved a transaction; disconnecting a dapp does not consolidate or clear approvals across chains.

You can use an approval checker provided by the relevant network’s block explorer, a wallet feature with documented network coverage, or a third-party checker. MetaMask’s guide gives Etherscan, BscScan and Polygonscan as block-explorer examples and also names Revoke, Unrekt, approved.zone, beefy.finance and EverRevoke. Availability and network coverage differ, so confirm the checker supports the chain you need. MetaMask’s guide to checking and revoking allowances
MetaMask Portfolio documents spending-cap review for Ethereum Mainnet, Polygon, BNB Chain, Optimism and Base. For networks outside that documented list, use a checker that explicitly supports the network. MetaMask’s Portfolio and allowance guidance

Before connecting a wallet to any checker, verify the site address and ensure the tool is on the intended account and chain. A checker’s interface and coverage may differ from another’s.
Review an allowance before revoking it
For each approval you are considering, check the network, token, spender or contract address, and permitted amount. If you do not recognize a spender or an approval was unexpected, do not sign further requests until you have verified the contract address through a trusted block explorer.

Use a revocation only for a permission you intend to remove. Revoking is an on-chain transaction and may require network gas. If you still use a dapp, removing its allowance may mean it asks for a new approval the next time you use a feature that needs the token.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Limit future token approvals
When a wallet asks you to approve token spending, review the spender and amount before signing. Where available, a custom spending cap lets you approve a smaller amount instead of an effectively unlimited allowance. This limits the amount covered by that approval, but it does not replace checking the contract and request itself.

Choosing an approval checker
Compare tools by the factors that affect whether you can safely inspect and act on the right permission:
- Network coverage: Does the checker support the chain where the allowance was granted?
- Action supported: Does it only display approvals, or can it also submit revocations?
- Approval details: Does it clearly show the token, spender and permitted amount?
- Wallet and chain selection: Can you confirm you are interacting with the intended account and network?
These are different kinds of tools, not interchangeable interfaces: network explorers, wallet-native controls and third-party services may support different chains and actions.
