To turn off voice chat in Marvel Rivals, open Settings → Audio → Voice Chat and switch it off. To remove text chat, open Settings → Keyboard and Controller → Communications, scroll to the chat controls, and enable Hide Chat. These are separate controls: disabling voice does not hide text chat or pings.
Quick answer: use two separate controls
Marvel Rivals treats voice, text, and ping communication as different systems. You must change each setting that you want disabled.

Open the Settings menu on PC, Xbox, or PS5
You can reach the controls from a match or from the home screen. Use the platform-specific input below:

- PC: press Esc to open the pause menu.
- Xbox: press the controller’s menu button.
- PlayStation 5: press Options.
- Any platform from the home screen: select the gear icon.
If a button does not open the menu, check whether another overlay currently has focus. Close that overlay, return to the game, and try the platform’s pause control again.
How to disable voice chat
Step 1: open Audio settings
From Settings, select Audio. Look for the control labeled Voice Chat. This is the master in-game voice-chat setting described in the communications guide.
Step 2: switch Voice Chat off
Toggle Voice Chat to the off position. The change is intended to stop the game’s voice-chat feature, so you should no longer hear or transmit voice through Marvel Rivals.
Step 3: test before leaving the menu
Return to the match or a practice area and check whether teammate audio is still audible. If it is, use the troubleshooting checks later in this guide rather than repeatedly changing unrelated volume sliders. A microphone volume control changes loudness; it does not necessarily disable the voice system.
Turning off voice does not hide written messages or stop pings. Those channels require their own settings.

How to hide text chat
Step 1: open Communications under Keyboard and Controller
In Settings, select Keyboard and Controller, then open Communications. Scroll down to the chat controls. On some versions, the controls are near the bottom of the page rather than near the movement or combat bindings.
Step 2: use Hide Chat
Choose Hide Chat. The documented PC example binding is Ctrl+Shift+C. If that combination is assigned on your installation, pressing it activates the same command during play. Bindings can differ after customization, on another platform, or in another localization, so use the key shown in your own controls screen as the authoritative value.

Step 3: understand what the command does
When Hide Chat is active, the guide says incoming chat is hidden and you cannot send messages. It is therefore broader than merely closing a chat window: you lose access to useful teammate text communication as well as unwanted messages.
If you can still see text after using the command, return to Communications and verify that Hide Chat is enabled rather than only rebinding the shortcut. A shortcut may have changed without changing the underlying setting.
Disable voice and text together
For a no-chat setup, perform both procedures:
- Open Settings → Audio and turn Voice Chat off.
- Open Settings → Keyboard and Controller → Communications.
- Scroll to the chat controls and enable Hide Chat.
- Review any separate ping or communication controls if you also want to remove nonverbal signals.
- Play a short test and confirm that neither teammate speech nor text appears.
There is no established official, platform-independent switch that permanently disables every chat channel at once. The available evidence documents separate controls, and a January 2025 Steam Community answer describes additional Social boxes; that community report is user experience, not official documentation. Treat the in-game controls as the reliable procedure.

Choose between hiding all text and filtering specific words
Use Hide Chat when you want no text communication
Hide Chat is appropriate when you do not want to read or send match text at all. It also removes potentially useful strategic messages from teammates, so it is a strong privacy or comfort setting rather than a targeted moderation tool.
Use Custom Muted Words when you want selective filtering
If you want to keep ordinary team messages while filtering recurring insults or phrases, use Custom Muted Words instead. NetEase’s Season 3.5 patch notes state that messages containing player-selected muted words are filtered. Add the terms you do not want to see, then leave normal chat available.
Word filtering is narrower than Hide Chat. It does not create a universal voice mute, and it may not catch variations, misspellings, or abusive content that does not contain one of your selected terms. Review the resulting chat behavior in a match and add or remove words as needed.
What happens to pings and other communication
Pings are separate from both voice and text. Turning Voice Chat off leaves pings available, and enabling Hide Chat does not automatically prove that pings are disabled. If your goal is to eliminate every teammate signal, inspect the communication and ping controls individually on your platform.
This separation can be useful when you want a quiet audio channel but still need objective or location alerts. Conversely, players seeking a completely distraction-free match should not assume that a silent headset or hidden chat window has removed pings.

Troubleshoot voice that remains audible
Use these checks only after confirming that Settings → Audio → Voice Chat is off. They address audio paths outside the game’s master setting.
Check the headset’s physical mute and volume controls
- Move the headset’s physical mute switch to the intended position.
- Check the headset’s own volume wheel or buttons.
- If the headset has separate game and chat mixes, lower or mute the chat side.
A physical control can mute your microphone without muting incoming teammate audio, or mute a console party channel while leaving game chat active. Confirm which side of the conversation the control affects.
Check the operating system or platform mute state
On PC, inspect the active output device and system mixer. Make sure the game is not routed to a second output that remains audible. On Xbox, check the console’s communication and headset settings. On PS5, review the system option Mute Game Voice Chat in addition to the in-game Voice Chat toggle.
Check for party chat versus game chat
Console party chat and the game’s team voice channel are different paths. Muting a party member or leaving a party does not necessarily disable Marvel Rivals game chat, and disabling game chat does not necessarily mute a separate party channel. Test while outside the party channel if you need to identify the source.

Restart after changing a setting that appears stuck
If the menu shows Voice Chat off but audio continues, leave the match, close and relaunch the game, and test again. A restart can clear a stale audio session, but it does not replace checking the headset, operating-system, and platform controls.

When the issue is a device or driver fault
If the game cannot detect the selected headset or microphone, the problem may be outside chat preferences. Verify the device in the operating system, reconnect it, and update or reinstall the manufacturer’s driver using the manufacturer’s support instructions. Do not expect a driver repair to hide text chat; device troubleshooting only addresses audio or input failures.

The documented controls show how to disable voice and hide text, but the available evidence does not establish one permanent, platform-independent setting for every channel on every account. Menu labels, bindings, and behavior can vary by platform and localization.

Do not infer persistence from a single session. Confirm the toggles after an update or when you first play on another platform.
Why players disable chat
NetEase’s moderation policy says Marvel Rivals uses automated detection, player reports, and manual review for text and voice chat. The policy identifies insults, threats, harassment, discrimination, hate speech, doxing, violent threats, spam, and other prohibited content.
Disabling chat can reduce exposure to unwanted communication, but it also removes legitimate coordination. If you keep chat enabled, use the game’s reporting and moderation features for prohibited behavior rather than responding in kind. If you hide chat, remember that you may miss objective calls, regroup instructions, or warnings from teammates.
Platform checklist
PC
- Press Esc or select the home-screen gear.
- Open Audio → Voice Chat and switch it off.
- Open Keyboard and Controller → Communications.
- Enable Hide Chat; the documented example is Ctrl+Shift+C.
- Check Windows output, headset mute, and any separate party or overlay chat if audio persists.
Xbox
- Press the controller’s menu button or select the gear from the home screen.
- Use Audio → Voice Chat for voice.
- Use Keyboard and Controller → Communications → Hide Chat for text.
- Check Xbox communication and headset controls if teammate audio remains.
PlayStation 5
- Press Options or select the gear from the home screen.
- Turn off Voice Chat under Audio.
- Enable Hide Chat under Keyboard and Controller → Communications.
- If voice is still audible, check the PS5 system option Mute Game Voice Chat, the headset mute, and any party-chat channel.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Turning off only voice: text chat and pings remain separate.
- Closing the chat panel: a hidden window is not necessarily the same as enabling Hide Chat.
- Changing microphone volume: this can affect what others hear from you without stopping incoming voice.
- Muting a console party: party controls do not always control the game’s team channel.
- Assuming a binding is universal: Ctrl+Shift+C is the documented PC example, not a guarantee for every installation.
- Expecting filtering to remove all abuse: Custom Muted Words filters selected terms; Hide Chat is the complete text-removal option described here.

The Bottom Line
Use Settings → Audio → Voice Chat to disable voice, and Settings → Keyboard and Controller → Communications → Hide Chat to remove text chat. Check pings separately, and remember that hiding chat also removes useful teammate communication.
