Design merchandise around what your viewers will actually want, use artwork you own or have permission to sell, and choose a store that can handle the orders you can support. If you stream on YouTube, eligible creators can connect a store and tag products in live streams; the retailer or platform—not YouTube—handles sales, fulfillment, and returns.
1. Choose merchandise your audience has a reason to buy
Start with the audience and the role your stream plays for them. A useful first product is one that feels connected to your channel and is practical for the people who watch it. Apparel is one option, not a universal best choice.
- Pick an item that suits your audience and the kind of content you make.
- Keep the first collection focused. A small set of considered options is easier to explain and manage than a large catalog.
- Before committing, check the provider’s current product cost, shipping, fees, taxes, payment terms, and return process. These determine the actual economics; there is no reliable margin or conversion figure that applies to every creator.
2. Make a design that is readable and yours to sell
Check the design on the real product
Review the artwork at the size and placement it will have on the item. A design that looks clear on a full-size screen may become hard to read when printed small or viewed from a distance. Check text legibility, contrast, and how the artwork fits the product before making it available.
Use original or properly licensed artwork
Use artwork you created or have permission to reproduce and sell. The U.S. Copyright Office explains that original visual works are protected once fixed in a tangible form, and identifies artwork for wearing apparel as a visual-arts category. Copyright can cover rights to make, sell, distribute, adapt, and publicly display copies. Changing a small detail in someone else’s artwork does not automatically make it safe to sell. 3. Choose a store and fulfillment workflow
Decide who will produce, store, ship, and support the merchandise before you promote it. A connected retailer or store platform may manage those tasks; with another setup, you may be responsible for some or all of them. Confirm that the service supports your location and the countries where you expect to sell, then read its current terms for shipping, returns, customer support, inventory, fees, and when creator payments are made.

4. Check YouTube Shopping eligibility and connect your store
YouTube Shopping can let eligible creators connect their own store and feature products in videos, Shorts, and live streams. Eligibility, supported retailers or platforms, channel settings, and countries of sale matter. Check YouTube’s current YouTube Shopping overview and eligibility details for your channel before building your launch around the feature.
For connected-store merchandise, YouTube says the retailer or platform is responsible for merchandising, warehousing, fulfillment, refunds, customer service, inventory management, and creator payment. YouTube is not the seller, so direct buyers to the store’s terms for order questions.

5. Select and arrange products for the live stream
In YouTube Studio, use the live stream’s product controls to tag and order products if your channel and content are eligible. YouTube’s current help page says creators can tag and rearrange up to 30 items for an individual live stream. A large maximum is not a reason to feature every item: choose the products that fit the stream and can be explained clearly.
- Open the live stream in YouTube Studio and go to its product controls.
- Choose products from the connected store to tag for that stream.
- Rearrange their order so the most relevant item is easiest to find.
- Check the stream preview and the actual viewer-facing surfaces available to you before you announce the products.
Product display may be unavailable for content marked Made for Kids, content with a copyright claim or certain monetization restrictions, or for viewers using unsupported devices, surfaces, or countries. The controls and visibility may therefore differ between your Studio view and a viewer’s experience. See YouTube’s Manage products from your store on YouTube guidance.

6. Make the buying route clear while you are live
- Say what the product is and where viewers can find it; do not assume everyone sees the same product shelf or tag.
- When available, use the stream’s product controls. You can also provide an appropriate store link in the description or another permitted surface.
- Be specific about known limitations, such as shipping coverage or availability.
- Only make claims about quality, fit, or durability that you have a reasonable basis to make.
7. Disclose endorsements and commercial relationships
If you recommend another company’s product and earn a commission or have another material relationship, disclose that connection clearly and close to the recommendation or link. Do not claim personal experience with a product you have not tried, and keep endorsements truthful and not misleading. The FTC’s guidance is U.S.-focused; creators should also check the rules that apply where they and their viewers are located.
