In Dia for macOS, change supported keyboard bindings at Dia → Settings → Shortcuts. Dia’s built-in Ctrl+Tab switcher moves among recently used tabs; it is not documented as sequential movement through every tab in strip order. If you want next/previous-in-order behavior, a community-reported macOS App Shortcuts workaround may help, but it is not official Dia guidance.

Change a shortcut in Dia

  1. Open Dia → Settings → Shortcuts.
  2. Find the action you want to change in the shortcut list and assign a key combination that suits you. Dia says the list contains its shortcut inventory and allows combinations to be changed; inspect your installed version for the actions it exposes.
  3. To check a shortcut while browsing, right-click or Ctrl-click a tab. Its context menu shows the shortcut beside each listed action, including custom bindings.

Dia describes the setting plainly: “If a combination doesn’t feel natural, you can change it.” The Shortcuts settings location is documented in Dia’s macOS v1.3.1 notes from October 30, 2025, and the context-menu hint is described in Dia’s shortcut guide.

Know what Ctrl+Tab does

Dia’s official shortcut article lists Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab for switching tabs. Dia describes this as quick switching among recent tabs, rather than guaranteed movement in the left-to-right order of the tab strip. Its May 2026 tab update also documents ⌘⇧A to search tabs in the current profile.

As of Dia for macOS 1.51.0, dated October 1, 2026, the Ctrl+Tab switcher displays 5 tabs instead of 10. That is the number shown in the recent-tabs switcher, not a limit on how many tabs can be open. See the 1.51.0 release note.

If you want next and previous tabs in strip order

A Dia community member reports using macOS App Shortcuts to bind the menu commands “Select Next Tab” and “Select Previous Tab.” This is an unofficial workaround, not a behavior confirmed by Dia’s documentation. Menu labels and results may vary by installed version.

  1. Open System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → App Shortcuts.
  2. Add an app shortcut for Dia using the exact menu command label shown in your installed version, such as “Select Next Tab” or “Select Previous Tab,” and assign the desired key combination.
  3. Test both bindings with several tabs. If the commands are absent or the result is not the order you want, remove or restore the app shortcuts and use Dia’s own recent-tabs switcher instead.

The route is based on a user report in the Dia community discussion; neither the labels nor universal compatibility are established as official Dia support.

Platform and version limits

The documented settings path and release details here are for Dia on macOS. Do not assume Windows has the same controls. Dia’s sources do not establish that every action can be remapped or that custom bindings cannot conflict, so check the Shortcuts pane and test the binding in your installed version. The official Dia macOS changelog is the place to check for later changes.
