InVideo AI is a prompt-first video maker: describe the video, choose production details, generate a draft, then revise scenes, narration, media, captions, music and formatting with the Magic Box or Edit panels. It is excellent for getting a structured explainer, social post, lesson or promotion quickly, but it is not a substitute for fact-checking, rights review or frame-accurate post-production.
The interface and available models change frequently. The menu paths below reflect InVideo’s documented workflow as of August 18, 2026; labels, plans and generation options may differ by account.
What InVideo AI can—and cannot—do
A generated project can combine a script, scene structure, stock or generated visuals, voiceover, subtitles, background music, transitions, overlays and effects. You can edit those components with natural-language instructions or conventional controls in the editor. See InVideo’s AI video generator and AI video editor for the current product description.
Think of the result as an editable first draft. AI may select an irrelevant shot, mispronounce a name, invent a fact, mistime a caption or change neighboring scenes after a seemingly small command. Watch and check the whole video before publishing.

InVideo AI, the older online video maker, the newer Agent experience and other connected products may not share the same controls. This guide focuses on the prompt-based InVideo AI workflow and Magic Box. For intricate finishing, export usable assets and complete the work in a conventional editor such as DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro.
Prepare before opening InVideo
Decide these items first; they make the initial generation substantially easier to correct:
- One-sentence objective and a clear call to action.
- Audience, platform and target length.
- Landscape (16:9) or portrait (9:16) format.
- Hook, key points and ending structure.
- Approved script or factual outline for technical subjects.
- Tone, visual style, narration language, accent and voice character.
- Logo, colors, typeface, product images, screen recordings, approved footage and legal disclaimers.
- Restrictions such as “do not invent statistics” or “use only the supplied script.”
For sensitive or brand-controlled videos, start with your own script rather than asking the model to invent wording. Uploading an asset does not prove that you have the copyright, releases or commercial permissions needed to publish it.
Choose a starting route
Route A: Start with an idea
Use this for explainers, educational videos, listicles, promotions and short-form posts. InVideo can structure or write the script and assemble scenes, voice, visuals, music and captions from your brief.
Route B: Start with a script or assets
Use this for training, product demonstrations, webinar repurposing and any video requiring exact wording. Provide the approved script and upload relevant files during creation or in the editor.
InVideo documents PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, MP4, MOV and WebM uploads, with a stated limit of up to 2 GB per file. Confirm current limits at the upload help page.
How to create a video from scratch
- Sign in and start a project. Open InVideo, choose the relevant AI video workflow and begin with an idea, script or files. Avoid relying on one fixed button name because the interface changes.
- Write a specific prompt. Include subject, audience, purpose, platform, duration, structure, visual direction, voice, subtitles, music, format and restrictions.
- Set production details. Select or describe audience, platform, style, duration, voice language/accent, landscape or portrait format, stock versus generative media, subtitle preference, music mood and brand assets.
- Add files if needed. Choose Add files during creation, or plan to upload them later through Edit > Media.
- Choose generation quality. InVideo’s help documentation lists the following snapshot as of August 18, 2026:
| Mode | Documented media | Listed cost | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | Stock media only | 2 credits per minute | Ordinary B-roll and low-cost drafts |
| Pro | Generative model | 80 credits per minute | Shots that need generated visuals |
| Ultra | Higher-end generative mode | 160 credits per minute | Selective high-quality generated shots |
Rates are a dated product snapshot, not a permanent specification. Check the generation-quality help page and the in-product estimate before creating variants.
- Generate the draft. Watch the complete result, not only the script or thumbnails. Check the hook, sequence, relevance of every visual, pronunciation, captions, platform fit, repeated clips, supported claims and call to action.
A copy-and-paste prompt
Use this as a starting point, then replace every bracketed item:
Create a [length] [platform] video about [subject] for [audience]. Use a [tone] tone and a [visual style] look. Structure it with [hook], [number] main points, and a [call to action]. Use [voice/language/accent]. Add [subtitle style], [music mood], and [aspect ratio]. Use my uploaded media where relevant. Avoid [visual or factual restrictions].
For factual or regulated subjects, append: “Use only the information in the supplied script/source material. Do not invent statistics, quotations, studies, product claims or historical details.” Specificity improves the draft but cannot guarantee accurate facts or perfect scene selection.
Edit the draft with Magic Box
Newly opened videos default to Theatre mode. Click Edit & Download to exit that view and reveal the Magic Box beneath the video, as described in InVideo’s Magic Box instructions.

Submit one clearly scoped change at a time, preview it, and use Undo if the result is wrong. Examples include:
- “Delete scene 3.”
- “Replace the media in scene 2 with a close-up of a red espresso machine.”
- “Change only the voiceover accent to Australian; do not change the script, visuals, captions or music.”
- “Add subtitles.”
- “Make the background music more upbeat and keep narration volume unchanged.”
- “Change the video to 9:16 portrait.”
- “Make the pace faster.”
- “Remove all overlays.”
Commands such as “make it better” are too broad. Name the scene, element and constraint you want preserved. The documented command reference is at Magic Box command reference.
Replace scenes and media
Use the Media panel
- Open Edit > Media.
- Select a scene or media item.
- Generate new media, browse or search stock, shuffle suggestions, or choose uploaded media.
- Select the replacement, click Proceed, then Save changes to preview it.
See how to replace media.
Generate a replacement image or clip
- Go to Edit > Media > Generative Media > + Generate new media.
- Choose Text to clip or Text to image.
- Describe the shot, select its aspect ratio, preview it and apply it.
The help page states that an image uses one generative credit and generated video duration can consume one to ten credits. Confirm the current in-product cost before making multiple versions.
Upload your own files
During creation choose Add files. During editing use Edit > Media > Uploaded media > Upload media, or use the Media Library. Your own logo, product photos, screen recordings and approved footage usually improve brand accuracy.
Edit voiceover, music and captions
Voiceover
Try “Change the narrator voice to an Australian accent,” “Mute the voiceover,” “Reduce voiceover volume” or “Change the voiceover language.” Then check names, acronyms, numbers, URLs, foreign words, pauses, emphasis and pronouns. “Human-sounding” is InVideo’s product description, not a guarantee that a voice will sound human or pronounce every term correctly.
Music and audio
Use the Music section or commands to change mood, replace or loop a track, trim its start, set fade-in/fade-out, adjust duration, mute it or change volume. InVideo documents manual volume up to 200%; louder music can still make speech unintelligible. Lower music beneath narration and test on headphones and ordinary phone speakers. Details are in the background-music guide.
Subtitles
Commands include “Add subtitles,” “Remove subtitles,” “Change subtitle position to 30% from the top” and “Change subtitle size to 70.” InVideo lists presets such as bold popping, clean, karaoke, word-by-word, all-caps and comic; documented size values range from 50 to 100. See position and size controls and subtitle styles.
Proofread every caption for homophones, names, numbers, punctuation, speaker changes and profanity filtering. Keep captions clear of logos, product labels and platform interface areas.
Transitions and overlays
Request transitions in the prompt or Magic Box, or adjust them through Edit > Media and Settings. Documented presets include Dynamic Cut and Stretch and Zoom. To remove transitions, set the preset to None; individual media properties may need to be Auto. See the transitions guide.
Overlay commands include “Add light_leaks overlay,” “Remove overlays for all chapters” and “Change overlay opacity to 0.” InVideo notes that overlays are not supported for portrait or short videos, so a control shown in a desktop tutorial may be unavailable in a vertical project. See overlay documentation.

Change landscape or portrait format
Use Magic Box commands such as “Change the aspect ratio to Landscape,” “Change the aspect ratio to Portrait,” “16:9” or “9:16.” Confirm that reframed subjects, captions and logos remain inside the platform’s safe area. The documented commands are listed at InVideo’s aspect-ratio help page.
A reliable revision and quality-control loop
- Structure: fix hook, order, length and call to action.
- Accuracy: provide the approved script and remove unsupported or duplicated claims.
- Visuals: specify close-ups, screen recordings, diagrams, B-roll or before-and-after shots rather than vague adjectives.
- Audio and captions: set voice, accent, pace, music level, subtitle style and position.
- Brand and platform: apply logo, colors, type, disclaimer, aspect ratio and safe-area changes.
- Final playback: watch the entire regenerated video; a small command can alter neighboring timing or wording.
Fix common problems
The footage is wrong
Specify the scene and subject: “Replace the media in scene 2 with a close-up of a mechanic inspecting a red bicycle.” If that fails, use Media search, shuffle, generative media or an uploaded approved clip.
The AI changed too much
Use a narrower command that lists what must remain unchanged, then Undo if necessary.
The script contains invented facts
Replace it with an approved script, instruct InVideo not to add information and manually fact-check the final narration and on-screen text.
Recommended Free Tools
Captions or pronunciation are wrong
Regenerate or restyle captions, then inspect every line. Spell out unusual names or acronyms in the script and listen for numbers, URLs and foreign words.
Generation is consuming too many credits
Use Basic stock generation for ordinary B-roll, reserve Pro or Ultra for shots that need it, correct one scene instead of regenerating the project and preview before requesting variants. InVideo says credits are platform currency, monthly unused credits do not roll over, model costs can change and on-demand top-ups are available; check current pricing.
A feature is missing
Check whether the project is portrait or short-form, whether your account or plan includes the feature, and whether you are in a different InVideo product or workflow. Consult the current Help Center rather than assuming every menu is universal.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Watermarks, credits and exporting
Free or limited-use access may produce watermarked output. Paid plans can affect watermark removal and premium-asset access, but eligibility depends on the plan, media source and export path. A preview watermark may appear even when an eligible final export will not. InVideo says a file exported before upgrading remains watermarked; reopen the original project and export it again after upgrading. See watermark guidance.
Distinguish InVideo branding, a stock-provider watermark, an account or brand overlay and a watermark embedded in an already exported file. Review current plan terms, stock licenses and applicable rights before commercial publication. InVideo says generated project media remains accessible after cancellation, but access is not the same as universal copyright ownership or unrestricted commercial rights; read its media-use guidance.
Before exporting, verify:
- Full playback, including the opening and final call to action.
- Factual claims, names, captions and pronunciation.
- Music and voice intelligibility on multiple devices.
- Aspect ratio, safe areas and platform length.
- Logo, colors, disclaimers and rights for every uploaded or stock asset.
- Whether an upgrade requires a fresh export.
Is InVideo AI enough for professional editing?
For rapid idea-to-video production and semantic changes such as replacing a scene, changing a narrator or adding captions, often yes. It is less appropriate when the project depends on exact frames, complex compositing, detailed color or audio work, predictable regeneration costs, strict legal wording or local-only processing. In those cases, use InVideo for a draft or asset collection and finish in the timeline editor you already know.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is InVideo AI free?
A free or limited-use entry point exists, but restrictions, credits, available models and watermarks depend on the current plan. Check the live pricing page before committing to a workflow.
Can I use my own footage?
Yes. Add files during creation, or use Edit > Media > Uploaded media > Upload media. Supported formats and the stated 2 GB per-file limit are listed at the upload help page. You remain responsible for permissions and releases.

Yes. Use a scoped Magic Box command such as “Replace the media in scene 2,” or replace it through Edit > Media, then preview and save the change.
Can I change the voice or accent?
Use Magic Box commands to change the narrator voice, language or accent, then verify names, numbers, acronyms and pronunciation.
Can I add subtitles?
Yes. Use “Add subtitles,” then proofread the transcription and adjust style, size and position with the documented subtitle controls.
Can I make a vertical video?
Yes. Request portrait or 9:16 through Magic Box and inspect reframed visuals, captions and safe areas. Some overlay features are unavailable in portrait or short videos.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →How many credits does generation use?
The dated help documentation lists Basic at 2 credits per minute, Pro at 80 and Ultra at 160. Credit costs and models can change, so confirm the current estimate in your account.
Why is there still a watermark after upgrading?
A preview may show one, or the file may have been exported before the upgrade. Re-export the original project after upgrading where the plan is eligible; an already exported watermarked file is not automatically repaired.
Can I finish the video in another editor?
Yes. Download usable assets or the rendered video and finish in a conventional editor when you need frame-level timing, advanced audio, color grading or compositing.
