To put a scrolling episode schedule on a YouTube podcast livestream, schedule the event in YouTube Studio, send your show through OBS Studio, and add the schedule as an OBS text or browser source with the Scroll filter. YouTube’s pinned chat message can share a schedule in chat, but it does not overlay text on the video.
What you need
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream. YouTube says enabling a channel for its first live stream may take up to 24 hours; check its current encoder streaming instructions for eligibility and restrictions.
- OBS Studio to encode and send the show.
- The show’s audio source, such as a microphone, plus any camera, artwork, or other visuals you want in the scene. You do not need to buy a new microphone if you already have suitable audio equipment.
- A concise, checked schedule: the episode title, current segment, and a few upcoming segments or timestamps are usually easier to read than a long rundown.
Schedule the YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go Live.
- Open Manage and schedule a stream. Add the event details and choose the intended privacy setting.
- Copy the watch-page URL if you want to promote the event ahead of time. Scheduling creates the event; OBS will send the actual audio and video feed later.
Check YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions for current account requirements and restrictions. A first live stream may take up to 24 hours to become available.
Build the podcast scene in OBS
- Create or select a scene for the show.
- Add the microphone or other audio input the podcast will use. OBS’s Sources Guide covers microphone/audio sources and visual sources.
- Add optional camera footage, artwork, or other scene elements. Arrange and size them so the episode schedule will have a clear, unobstructed place on screen.
Add the episode schedule
Option 1: OBS Text source
Add a Text source and enter the schedule, or configure it to read from a text file. OBS documents text rendering and text-file input in its Text Sources guide. Keep the copy compact and use separators consistently so viewers can distinguish items as they pass.
Option 2: OBS Browser source
Add a Browser source if you want styled typography or a schedule laid out as a web page. OBS’s Browser Source guide explains that the source can load a local file or web page and render a custom layout. Position and size the source within the scene before applying motion.

Make the schedule scroll
- Select the text or browser source in OBS, open its Filters, and add the Scroll filter.
- Choose the horizontal or vertical direction and set the speed. The right speed depends on your text, output size, and audience; there is no universal ideal setting. Preview it and slow it down if viewers cannot comfortably read each item.
- Choose whether the content loops and whether to limit its width or height. OBS describes the filter as scrolling a source in any direction and identifies marquee text as one of its uses in the Scroll Filter documentation.
For a schedule that changes during the episode, keep the text concise and update its source as needed. Preview the transition after any change so the schedule remains readable and does not cover faces, titles, or captions.
Preview, connect, and go live
- Preview the complete OBS scene at the intended output size. Check contrast, spelling, names, times, placement, and whether the scrolling text loops or stops as intended. OBS recommends testing scenes and settings before a first stream in its Quick Start Guide.
- In OBS’s stream settings, connect to YouTube by selecting the service when offered or by entering the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Use the key for the scheduled event you intend to broadcast.
- Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the incoming stream preview in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then click Go live when the scheduled event is ready.
- When the show ends, end the broadcast through the Live Control Room and encoder workflow. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; check its current instructions because platform behavior can change.
Choose the right way to show the schedule

Troubleshooting
The schedule is not visible in the video
Confirm the text or browser source is enabled and visible in the active OBS scene, and that it is positioned within the canvas. A pinned chat message will not appear as an on-video overlay; use an OBS source for that.

The text is too fast or hard to read
Reduce the Scroll filter speed, shorten the copy, or use a static panel instead. Preview at the intended output size and make sure the schedule does not compete with other essential visuals.
The scheduled event has no incoming preview
Check that OBS is sending to the correct YouTube service or stream URL and that the stream key matches the event. Start the encoder and wait for the Live Control Room preview before selecting Go live.

You cannot start a first livestream
Check the channel’s eligibility and any live restrictions in YouTube’s encoder instructions. YouTube notes that first-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become enabled.
