To play a finished podcast WAV file in a YouTube live stream, use OBS Studio: add the WAV as a Media Source, add cover art or another visual to the scene, connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream with its server URL and stream key, then test and start the broadcast. The steps below cover a single episode, intentional looping, and a playlist of episodes.
Before you set up the stream
Check that your channel can go live before preparing the scene. YouTube’s general live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions during the prior 90 days, and be operated by a creator at least 16 years old. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.
Decide whether the WAV should play once or repeat, what viewers will see, and whether the event should be public, private, unlisted, or scheduled. Scheduling gives you a shareable stream URL and lets viewers set reminders; choose it if you want to promote the event ahead of time. Visibility controls who can access it, so set it deliberately in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go live, and open the Stream tab to create an encoder stream. To schedule a future broadcast, use Manage and schedule it.
- Set the title, description, visibility, and any other event details. If you schedule the stream, copy its shareable URL for promotion.
- In the Live Control Room, locate the server URL and stream key. You will enter these in OBS. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP. Use it where available in the encoder’s connection settings. Details are in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
#1 Best Overall

- [XLR Connection Upgrade-Ability] To use XLR connection, connect the podcast microphone to an audio interface (or mixer) using a separate XLR cable (NOT Included) . Well-connected and smooth operation improves audio flexibility to make you explore various types of music recording singing. The streaming mic isolates the pristine and accurate sound from ambient noise with greater no interference and fidelity. (RGB and function key on mic are INACTIVE when using XLR connection.)
- [USB Connection with Handy Mute] Skip the hassle of setting something up and plug the cable to play the dynamic USB microphone directly, which suits for beginner creators or daily podcast. You can quickly control the gamer mic with tap-to-mute that is independent of computer/Macbook programs to keep privacy when live streaming. LED mute reminder helps you get rid of forgetting to cancel the mute. (RGB and function key are only available for USB connection, but NOT for XLR connection)

Get the desired level via monitoring volume control when gaming recording. Smooth mic gain knob on the PC microphone gaming has some resistance to the point, easily for audio attenuation or boost presence to less post-production audio. (Only available for USB connection)
Build the podcast scene in OBS
- Create a scene. In OBS, add a scene for the podcast broadcast. A scene is the arrangement of the audio and visual sources viewers will receive.
- Add the WAV. Add a Media Source, select the local WAV file, and enable Loop only if you want the episode to restart automatically at the end. OBS documents WAV support and the Media Source loop setting in its Media Sources guide.
- Add a visual. Add an Image Source and choose local cover art, then position and size it in the scene. OBS explains the source in its Image Sources guide. A still image is enough to provide a visual for an audio-only episode; a moving visualizer or animation needs its own setup.
- Arrange and check the scene. Confirm the image is visible and the WAV source is included. Play the source in OBS and listen for the intended audio. OBS’s Sources guide covers arranging scene sources.
One WAV or several episodes
For one episode, use a Media Source and decide whether it should end or repeat. For multiple files that should advance as a playlist, OBS documents a VLC Video source that requires VLC to be installed. Use it as an optional playlist approach rather than adding multiple files when a single WAV is all you need. After changing files or sources, check the scene preview again.
Still cover art or a more involved scene
A still cover image is the simpler choice and can keep the broadcast visually consistent with the episode artwork. Text, animation, or a visualizer can make the scene more elaborate, but requires configuring those visual elements separately; OBS’s cited documentation does not promise a podcast-specific visualizer or preset.

Connect OBS and choose output settings
- Open OBS stream settings and select YouTube or a custom streaming service as appropriate for the installed OBS version.
- Enter the server URL and stream key from the YouTube Live Control Room. Keep the key private.
- Choose an output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your computer and upload connection can sustain. For a static podcast cover, a high frame rate may be unnecessary; YouTube does not publish a podcast-specific preset.
- Use a supported video codec (H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1) and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube lists constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe frequency as recommendations; keyframes should not be more than four seconds apart. Its stereo-audio guidance lists 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps.
YouTube’s published encoder table recommends H.264 video bitrate of 4 Mbps at 720p30, 10 Mbps at 1080p30, and 14 Mbps at 1080p60. It lists minimums of 3 Mbps at 720p30 and 5 Mbps at 1080p30. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not guarantees that a particular computer or internet connection will sustain the stream. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table.
Check your upload speed before choosing a bitrate. YouTube advises leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; its network guidance explains connection considerations. For example, if your planned stream uses 10 Mbps video bitrate, available upload capacity should exceed that bitrate rather than merely match it.

Test, start, and end the broadcast
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming signal and preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room.
- Check that the preview shows the intended image and that the WAV audio is audible and not clipped or unexpectedly silent. YouTube advises testing audio and video movement similar to what you will stream; see its live-streaming tips.
- When the preview and stream health look right, select Go live in YouTube. Monitor the audio, video, stream health, and chat while the episode plays.
- When finished, end the event in the Live Control Room and stop the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; see its encoder setup guidance.
Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| No incoming signal in YouTube | OBS is not sending to the right server, or the stream key is wrong. | Compare the server URL and key in OBS with the values in the current YouTube Live Control Room. Check that OBS is streaming and that the channel is eligible to go live. |
| Video appears, but the WAV is silent | The Media Source may reference the wrong file, be stopped, or not be reaching the scene’s audio output. | Confirm the selected file and playback in OBS, then listen to the YouTube preview before going live. |
| The audio ends before the event should | The file has reached its end and Loop is off. | Enable Loop on the Media Source only if repeating the episode is intended. If it should play once, ending at the file’s duration is expected. |
| The wrong image or no image appears | The Image Source may point to another file, be hidden, or be obscured by another scene source. | Check the selected local image and source visibility and order in OBS, then verify the preview. |
| The stream drops or looks unstable | The chosen bitrate may exceed what the upload connection can reliably sustain. | Check upload capacity, reduce output demands if needed, and leave the bandwidth headroom YouTube recommends. Test again before the event. |
