To run a rotating mantra playlist on YouTube, install OBS Studio and VLC, add your files as an OBS VLC Video source, enable Loop Playlist, and send OBS to YouTube with your stream URL and stream key. Your computer and internet connection must stay on for this do-it-yourself setup to keep broadcasting. Before going live, confirm you have the rights to every recording, composition, image, and video in the stream.
Prepare the playlist and check your rights
Gather and organize your media
Collect the mantra audio and any accompanying video or artwork you plan to broadcast. Check that the files play correctly and decide whether you want the same sequence every time or a different order on each pass.
Confirm permission for every component
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the creator to have all rights needed to use live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights. Permission for a recording alone may not cover the underlying composition, artwork, or background footage.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image, and may interrupt or terminate the stream if the material remains. If you have licensed the material, YouTube advises asking the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license by itself does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming. Build a looping playlist in OBS
Install OBS Studio and VLC
Install OBS Studio and VLC on the computer that will run the broadcast. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC, and OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS documents this source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Check the OBS media sources documentation if the source is missing or media does not load.
Add the files and choose playlist behavior
- Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the stream.
- In the Sources panel, select +, then add a VLC Video source.
- Open the source properties and add the media files to its playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback restarts after the final item.
- Optionally enable Shuffle Playlist if you want the item order randomized rather than predictable.
- Preview playback in OBS. Confirm that video fits the scene and that the audio is audible at a suitable level before streaming.

OBS documents both Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist in its VLC Video source guidance. Shuffle is optional; looping alone is enough to repeat the playlist.

Connect OBS to YouTube and go live
Check that your channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Review YouTube’s livestream eligibility guidance before planning a continuous broadcast.
Create the stream and enter its details in OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and schedule a stream or create one.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key provided in YouTube Studio.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream details using the available connection method. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions explain the workflow.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview and status before sharing the broadcast.
Scheduling in advance lets you promote the event and gives viewers an option to set reminders. Keep the streaming computer and network connection running for the entire time you want the playlist on air; if either stops, this local-encoder method cannot keep sending the feed.

Plan for archives, rights checks, and monetization
Do not rely on YouTube to save a full 24-hour stream
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the full broadcast matters, make a local recording as well. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
A loop is not a monetization guarantee
Technical ability to repeat a playlist does not establish eligibility for monetization. YouTube’s policy, updated July 15, 2025, classifies repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content,” which is ineligible for monetization. Consider what original value your channel adds, and review the current YouTube channel monetization policies; a looping stream should not be assumed to qualify.

Troubleshoot common problems
- VLC Video is unavailable in OBS: Install VLC, then confirm the VLC and OBS architectures match. OBS specifically notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- The playlist stops at the last file: Reopen the VLC Video source properties and enable Loop Playlist.
- The order changes unexpectedly: Disable Shuffle Playlist if you need a consistent sequence.
- YouTube does not accept the broadcast: Check the stream URL and key in OBS, and verify that the channel meets YouTube’s verification and recent-restriction requirements.
- The feed is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder: Check the Live Control Room for a copyright match. If you have a license, contact the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
- The computer or connection drops: The local setup depends on both remaining available. Restore OBS and the connection, then check the YouTube dashboard to confirm the stream is live again.
- The complete stream is missing from archives: A broadcast over 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use a local recording when retaining the full program is important.
