Use a design editor—not a real Facebook account—to create a fictional post mockup. Build the post as an editable frame in Canva or Figma, label invented content clearly, and export a PNG or JPG at the size your presentation needs. Canva is faster for placing the design into a phone or browser scene; Figma gives you finer control over the interface layout, selection bounds, and export settings.
Choose the right kind of mockup first
There are two useful outputs:
- Flat post image: a standalone card for a slide, article, classroom example, or design review.
- Context mockup: the card shown inside a phone, laptop, browser window, or social-feed scene.
Decide the audience and use before designing. A client approval deck may need a polished device scene, while a product specification usually benefits from a flat, easily inspected frame. In either case, treat names, profile photos, post text, reactions, comments, and share counts as fictional unless you have permission and a factual basis to show real material.
Build the fictional Facebook post in Canva
1. Create the post composition
- Open Canva and start a design with dimensions suited to the destination (for example, the pixel dimensions of your slide image or device screen).
- Create a white or very light post card with rounded corners and a subtle border or shadow.
- Add only the interface elements needed to communicate the idea: a profile image or neutral placeholder, account name, timestamp, post copy, media area, and optional reaction, comment, and share rows.
- Use invented account details. Do not copy a real person’s identity, likeness, or statement in a way that implies they published the fictional post.
- Add a small “Mockup” or “Fictional example” label outside the simulated post when viewers could mistake it for a real publication.
Keep hierarchy realistic: the account line should be easy to find, body text should have comfortable line spacing, and the media should not crowd the engagement controls. A deliberately incomplete interface is often safer and clearer than a pixel-perfect imitation that could be mistaken for an authentic post.
2. Place it in a scene
Canva documents a guided image-to-mockup workflow. Open Elements, choose Mockups, select a phone, laptop, browser, or other scene, and drag your exported design or image into the mockup. Canva advertises up to 2,500 mockups on its free tier, while some custom-template creation features are limited to specified paid, nonprofit, or education plans. Check the current plan limits before committing a production workflow.
Build the same mockup in Figma
1. Assemble an editable feed frame
- Create a frame at the intended display size. Make a separate component for the post card so you can revise copy, spacing, or imagery without rebuilding the scene.
- Use text layers for the account name, timestamp, post body, and engagement labels. Use rectangles or image fills for avatars and media until final assets are approved.
- Add a phone or browser frame only if the context helps the decision being made. Keep the fictional-status label visible in the surrounding presentation.
- Check the layout at 100% zoom and at the size it will appear in the final slide or document. Tiny text that looks acceptable while zoomed in may become unreadable after export.
2. Export the exact bounds
Select the frame you need, or create a slice around the exact area. Figma says a slice exports only the content inside its bounds and can include padding. In the right sidebar, open Export, choose the format and scale, then click Export. The official procedure is in Figma’s export documentation.
Choose PNG or JPG

These distinctions follow Figma’s description of PNG as lossless and suitable for graphics containing text, while JPG trades image information for smaller files. See Figma’s format guidance. Export at the destination’s pixel dimensions or at a higher scale if the image will be resized down; avoid repeatedly re-saving a JPG.
Use Facebook and Meta branding carefully
If the concept calls for a Facebook mark, obtain the current asset from Facebook’s official logo guidance rather than a search-image result. Do not substitute the Meta logo for Facebook: Meta’s company-brand guidance explains that the Meta logo should not represent Facebook and that its trademarks must be used according to the published guidelines or with permission (Meta brand resources).

For professional or commercial media, review Meta’s brand-request guidance. It says UI elements shown in media—such as buttons, pages, or mobile screenshots—should reflect the latest version and suggests working with a Meta contact to obtain UI assets when needed. That guidance is not a universal legal determination for every mockup, so obtain appropriate approval for your use.
Make the fictional status unambiguous
- Use a nearby caption such as “Fictional Facebook post mockup— not a real publication.”
- Use placeholder avatars or licensed stock imagery instead of a real person’s profile photo.
- Invent account names, timestamps, reactions, comments, and share counts.
- Do not present the image as evidence of a person’s words, an announcement, or engagement.
- Keep a source note for any real logo or UI asset used in the design.
This is a practical protection against confusion, not a claim that Meta’s official pages impose one disclosure format for every use. Rights involving people, accounts, photographs, and statements can depend on your jurisdiction and project; get permission when a real identity is necessary.
Common problems and fixes
The export includes extra canvas
In Figma, export the selected frame or use a slice around the intended area; a slice exports only content inside its bounds. In Canva, crop the design before downloading and verify the final pixel dimensions.
Small text is blurry
Prefer PNG, export at a larger scale, and inspect the result at its actual presentation size. Do not repeatedly recompress a JPG. Increase body-text size and line height instead of relying on a high-resolution export to rescue an overcrowded layout.

The mockup looks like a real post
Replace real names and photos, remove realistic engagement numbers, and add a visible fictional-example label. If the design still could be mistaken for an authentic post, use a deliberately simplified interface rather than copying every production detail.
The logo or interface appears outdated
Recheck the current official Facebook and Meta resources before delivery. Meta’s brand-request page specifically calls for current UI elements in media; do not assume an old screenshot or downloaded logo remains appropriate.
The device scene distorts the design
Return to the original flat post, check its aspect ratio, and reinsert it into the mockup. Leave safe margins around text and keep important labels away from curved phone edges or browser chrome.

Should I use a real Facebook URL as the source?
