To create a daily schedule for a 24/7 YouTube music stream, plan a full-day programming grid, clear the music for live use, then send the scheduled or continuous broadcast to YouTube through an encoder or cloud playout service. YouTube Studio can schedule an event and promote its watch page; it does not create the music rotation or keep an unattended feed playing by itself.
Decide what “24/7” means for your channel
There are two different ways to present music throughout the day. Choose one before building the schedule because the choice affects promotion, operation, and archives.

How do I make a daily playlist schedule for a YouTube music livestream?
Build the programming grid outside YouTube Studio. A schedule is an editorial and operations plan; Studio does not automatically choose tracks or manage their rotation.

Choose a time zone and recurring blocks
Pick one reference time zone and label it clearly. Divide the day into blocks that suit your audience—for example, morning, workday, evening, and overnight. Choose themes based on the channel’s purpose, such as mood, genre, decade, artist, or listening activity. There is no universally best set of genres or clock times; use the audience you intend to serve.
Record the details that make each block playable
Use a planning sheet with a row for each block and these columns:
- Time zone and start/end: specify the time zone and whether the end time is inclusive or marks the next block’s start.
- Block name and playlist/source: identify what should play and where it comes from.
- Approximate length: estimate the playlist duration and whether it covers the full block.
- Transition: note whether tracks play back-to-back, crossfade, or use another transition supported by your playout setup.
- Rights evidence: record who cleared the music and whether the permission covers live use and any intended replay or archive.
- Fallback: name rights-cleared backup audio or a safe action if a playlist runs out or a source fails.
- Monitoring owner: assign an operator or handoff for checking the stream and responding to problems.
For example, a channel could assign different playlists to morning, workday, evening, and overnight blocks, then repeat or vary them on a daily cycle. The times and music should reflect the channel’s listeners rather than an assumed universal formula.

Clear the music before you schedule
Make sure you have the rights needed to broadcast each recording live and, if you plan to keep or replay the stream, the rights needed for that use too. YouTube for Artists recommends coordinating with the label or distributor when using copyright-protected music in a live stream to avoid problems such as copyright strikes. Read YouTube for Artists’ guidance for music channels and confirm permissions directly with the relevant rights holders.

- Attribution alone does not establish permission to livestream a copyrighted track.
- A consumer music subscription or purchasing a recording does not, by itself, grant livestream rights.
- Check the rights for every track and for the intended archive or replay, not just the playlist as a whole.
- Keep a fallback playlist whose rights are also clear; substituting unverified tracks during an outage can create a new problem.
Enable live streaming and test before the first broadcast
YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. YouTube for Artists advises enabling it at least 24 hours before the planned event and testing with an unlisted stream. Allow that lead time rather than waiting until the day you intend to launch.
- In YouTube Studio, enable live streaming for the channel and wait for access to become available.
- Prepare a short, unlisted test using the same encoder, audio path, visuals, and stream-key workflow you plan to use.
- Check the incoming preview and listen for gaps, clipping, silence, unexpected transitions, and audio that differs from the intended program.
- Verify the title, description, thumbnail, privacy setting, schedule, and any relevant stream settings.
- Confirm that your backup playlist and monitoring handoff are usable before relying on unattended operation.
How do I schedule a YouTube music stream in Studio?
For a scheduled event, create the event in Studio and then connect an encoder feed. YouTube states that “Scheduling a stream lets you promote your stream.” Scheduling can make an upcoming event visible and allow viewers to request reminders, but it does not generate the music feed.

- Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream.
- Choose to reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new scheduled stream.
- Add the event title, description, thumbnail, privacy, start time, and other applicable settings. Use the time zone and block name that match your planning grid.
- In the scheduled stream’s settings, obtain the YouTube stream URL and stream key for the encoder workflow.
- Enter those details in your chosen encoder, keeping the stream key private. Reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- At the planned time, start the encoder and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Use Go live when the scheduled workflow prompts you.
YouTube describes encoders as either software or hardware; a dedicated hardware encoder is not required simply because the stream is live. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose a playout and encoder approach
Software encoder
A software encoder can send the feed from a computer. It can be a reasonable choice if the computer, power, and network connection can remain available for the broadcast and you can manage interruptions. Account for maintenance and what happens after a power or network failure.

YouTube also supports hardware encoders. Consider dedicated hardware only if software does not suit your continuous operation; weigh purchase and maintenance against the role the device will play in your setup. YouTube’s support for hardware encoding does not mean that hardware is necessary for every channel.

Choose horizontal or vertical presentation deliberately
YouTube’s current help documentation says vertical live streams can appear in the Shorts feed. Horizontal live supports features including live ad pre-rolls and mid-rolls and clickable links, along with other features listed by YouTube. Compare how the format fits the intended viewing experience and which platform features matter to the channel; do not assume that one orientation has the same discovery or feature behavior as the other. Automation can reduce routine playlist handling, but it does not remove the need to own rights, watch for failures, and review the schedule. Assign a person or handoff to monitor the Live Control Room and the audio, and define what to do if the encoder disconnects, the playlist ends, or the feed restarts.

- Check audio continuity and the encoder connection during the broadcast.
- Keep the Live Control Room available to check stream status and preview.
- Use a rights-cleared fallback and make clear who is responsible for switching to it.
- After a restart or interruption, confirm how Studio represents the stream and whether the planned event or archive needs attention.
- For simultaneous active broadcasts, YouTube Help states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are platform limits, not recommendations for how many events to schedule.
Will YouTube archive a 24-hour livestream?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that one 24-hour broadcast will produce one complete archived video. If a complete archive matters, decide how to divide, retain, or independently record the program before launch, and confirm the result in Studio after the stream. Troubleshoot common schedule and broadcast problems
