You can put a YouTube live stream on your own webpage by copying the event’s embed code from its watch page and pasting it into your site’s HTML or embed block. Publish the page and test it in the same context viewers will use; an embedded player may fail if opened directly without its webpage’s referrer information.
Choose what the page should show
Decide whether visitors need one scheduled or live event, a playlist, or the video alongside live chat. A single-video embed suits a page dedicated to one broadcast. A playlist suits a page meant to present a collection. YouTube provides embed options for videos and playlists.
- Video only: The simplest layout, with fewer elements to configure.
- Video and chat: Adds a separate chat embed and a hostname setting to match your website.
Embed the YouTube live stream
- Schedule or open the broadcast. In YouTube, go to the event’s watch page. Confirm that you have the right event before copying its embed code.
- Copy the embed code. On the watch page, select Share → Embed, then copy the generated HTML.
- Paste it into your webpage. In your site editor, use an HTML or embed block and insert YouTube’s iframe code. If you edit the page’s HTML directly, paste the code where the player should appear. The video remains hosted and played by YouTube; your page displays its player.
- Set a usable player size. Google requires an embedded-player viewport of at least 200 × 200 pixels. For a 16:9 player, Google recommends at least 480 × 270 pixels. Use a responsive layout or adjust the iframe dimensions so the player fits the page without being squeezed below those dimensions.
- Publish and test the public page. Test the page on desktop and mobile, and check playback in the scheduled or live state. Test the actual webpage, not the iframe URL by itself.
Customize playback and privacy
YouTube documents iframe parameters for options such as autoplay, captions, controls, and playlist behavior. Use the current parameter documentation when changing the generated code: older options such as modestbranding are deprecated and have no effect.
For a website’s privacy-enhanced embed, change the player hostname from youtube.com to youtube-nocookie.com. YouTube says this mode prevents embedded views from influencing personalization of the viewer’s YouTube browsing experience and serves non-personalized ads. It does not mean the site hosting the player cannot track visitors under its own policies, including after they leave the embed.

Add live chat if viewers need it
Live chat is a separate iframe from the video player. Ecamm’s April 1, 2026 instructions describe constructing a chat embed URL with the video ID and an embed_domain value. Set that value to the exact hostname visitors use, including whether it is www or another subdomain. For example, if the public page uses www.example.com, a different hostname such as example.com may not match the required setting.
Test chat on the published page and plan who will moderate messages during the event. Chat configuration adds another component to check and maintain; if it is not needed, a video-only embed keeps the page simpler.

Check access, policy, and page behavior
- Referrer context: YouTube identifies missing referrer information as a cause of error 153. An embedded player is intended to be accessed within its enclosing webpage, so do not use a direct address-bar visit to the raw embed URL as your playback test.
- Age restrictions: Age-restricted videos generally cannot be watched on most third-party websites and may redirect viewers to YouTube.
- Child-directed websites: YouTube’s stated requirements call for child-directed sites to self-designate accordingly.
- Terms and policies: YouTube’s embedded-player Terms of Service and developer policies apply to use of its player.
For an event that matters, test the complete setup privately before the broadcast, schedule the stream, put its URL on the webpage, and make sure the title and description are accessible and useful to viewers.
