You can create a continuous YouTube podcast stream with a scrolling episode list by combining a looping video or playlist with a text ticker in OBS, then sending the scene to YouTube Live. The result is an encoder live stream with an on-screen episode list—not a native YouTube podcast feed or a built-in scrolling-list feature.
What you need
- A YouTube channel that is enabled for live streaming. First-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- OBS Studio and the video file or files you have the right to stream.
- A stable internet connection and enough upload capacity for the stream bitrate. YouTube recommends keeping 20% headroom above the total streaming bitrate; see its streaming tips.
Set up YouTube Live and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide if live streaming is not enabled or you need the exact current controls.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it in the scene, share it, or leave it visible in a recording. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio before streaming again.
- Keep the YouTube preview available while setting up the scene so you can check what viewers will receive before making the stream public.
Build the video or episode playlist
Loop one episode or background video
- In OBS, add a Media Source and select the local video file.
- Enable the source’s Loop setting if that single file should repeat continuously. OBS documents Media Source behavior in its Media Sources guide.
Play separate episodes in sequence
- Add a VLC Video source and choose the episode files in the order you want them to play.
- Enable Loop Playlist if the ordered set should repeat after the final episode. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for this source to work; consult the Media Sources guide.
A single looping file and a sequential playlist are different viewing experiences. Choose deliberately: a loop repeats the same video, while a playlist advances through the selected files. Check the playlist order and transitions in OBS before streaming.
Add and animate the scrolling episode list
- Add a text source containing episode titles. Episode numbers or brief descriptors can help viewers understand the list. Keep the text concise enough to remain readable on a phone-sized player.
- In the Sources list, place the text source above the video source. OBS renders higher sources on top; see the OBS Sources Guide.
- Apply the Scroll filter to the text source. Set its direction and speed, then constrain the visible width or height as needed so the ticker occupies the intended part of the scene. The OBS Project describes the filter as making a source image scroll in any direction; see its Scroll Filter documentation.
- Preview the movement at the size and position you plan to use. If titles move too quickly to read, slow the scroll or shorten the text.
The text source is a manually maintained list unless you separately build an update mechanism. Scrolling alone does not make the list track the episode currently playing or update automatically.
Test before going public
- Start OBS and check the stream preview in YouTube Live Control Room before starting a public broadcast. YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring stream quality; see its live-streaming tips.
- Confirm the episode sequence, ticker direction and speed, text legibility, and audio levels. Make sure no source covers the titles and that the stream key is not visible.
- Check your connection’s available upload capacity against the total streaming bitrate, leaving YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. A connection with insufficient capacity can cause a poor or unstable stream.
- Use videos and audio you have permission to stream, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for your situation. The OBS setup does not grant rights to the media or determine whether a channel is eligible for monetization.
Plan for stream continuity and archiving
A local OBS broadcast depends on the computer, OBS process, and internet connection staying available. If any of them stops, the stream can stop too; monitor the encoder and network during the broadcast and have a restart plan.

YouTube’s encoder setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If one continuous broadcast is intended to run longer, check YouTube’s current behavior and plan for archive and restart handling rather than assuming an indefinitely available recording. The 12-hour guidance is not a promise that every stream will have a permanent archive.
