To keep a true crime podcast playing continuously on YouTube, prepare a playlist of episodes and visuals you have rights to use, send it through a software or hardware encoder to a YouTube Live stream, and monitor the broadcast in Live Control Room. YouTube does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast, and a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all. If preserving every episode matters, divide the program into shorter blocks and make a separate local recording.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming: YouTube says it must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check your current eligibility in YouTube Studio before scheduling a launch. YouTube live-streaming setup
- A prepared sequence of podcast episodes and accompanying visuals, plus the rights needed to stream every component.
- A software encoder or professional hardware encoder, and a reliable internet connection for the device sending the stream.
- A recording plan if you need a complete archive, since YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours.
How to create the continuous stream
1. Prepare a rights-cleared program
Arrange completed episodes in the order you want them to play, and decide what viewers will see: episode artwork, a cover image, or other visuals. Check the rights for the podcast audio, guest interviews, archival news audio, music, photographs, court recordings, and video clips. Having a copy of an item or having published it in a podcast feed does not establish that you may stream it on YouTube.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects copyrighted material that remains in the stream, it may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. If you have a license, check whether the rights owner needs to allowlist your channel; a license alone may not prevent an automated interruption. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and its copyright guidance for live streams before broadcasting.
2. Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Open the Stream tab and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key provided by YouTube into your encoder’s corresponding fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a public screenshot. If it is exposed, replace it in Studio.

3. Configure playback and audio
Set the encoder to send the prepared episode sequence and visuals to the stream URL using the stream key. Configure your playlist or playback software to repeat or restart the sequence when it reaches the end. Test the transition between episodes and the loop before relying on it; continuity depends on the encoder, playback setup, and connection, not on a YouTube promise of uninterrupted operation.
A microphone, preamp, or audio interface is optional for prerecorded episode playback. You need that equipment only if you plan to add live narration or commentary. YouTube describes both software and professional hardware encoders, but its guidance does not establish that one option guarantees better 24/7 uptime. Choose based on whether it can repeat your program, recover from interruptions, support monitoring, and make a separate local recording.

4. Test, preview, and go live
- Run a test with representative episode audio and visuals before your scheduled broadcast.
- Start the encoder and wait for the stream preview in Live Control Room.
- Check the preview and watch page for sound, image, and playback issues, then select the go-live control in Live Control Room when ready.
- While live, monitor stream health and audio/video quality. Plan and test how the encoder will restart or move to another block if the application, device, or network fails.
- When ending a broadcast, stop the event on YouTube and then stop the encoder, following YouTube’s event guidance.

Can I stream podcast episodes on YouTube 24/7?
You can set up a prepared sequence to play continuously through an encoder, but YouTube’s official guidance does not promise a truly uninterrupted 24/7 stream. The playback application, computer or encoder, internet connection, and YouTube’s handling of the live stream are all potential points of interruption. Test the complete sequence, including loop transitions and recovery after a connection or application interruption, before treating it as a dependable channel schedule.

Will YouTube archive a continuous live stream?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The guidance does not guarantee an archive for every stream under that threshold. Common problems and fixes
- No preview appears: Check that the encoder is using the stream URL and the current stream key from the correct YouTube Studio stream. Confirm the encoder is sending a signal, then wait for Live Control Room to receive it.
- The stream stops when an episode ends: Check the playback software’s repeat or playlist behavior and test the transition. A playlist that ends is not a continuous program unless the encoder or playback setup starts it again.
- The stream drops unexpectedly: Check the internet connection, encoder status, and stream health. Restart the encoder if needed and confirm the preview returns before going live again. Test this recovery path in advance; YouTube does not document an uninterrupted 24/7 guarantee.
- Audio or visuals are missing or wrong: Test with the same episode files and visual sources intended for broadcast. Check the encoder’s selected playback and audio inputs and confirm the result in Live Control Room before launching.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: Review whether the stream contains third-party material and confirm your streaming rights. If the material is licensed, ask the rights owner whether your channel needs to be allowlisted.
- The archive is incomplete or missing: Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use shorter blocks and maintain a separate local recording when preservation is important.

A DIY setup uses encoder software or hardware and requires someone or something to keep the playback, connection, monitoring, recovery, and any local recording working. The official YouTube guidance cited here does not compare encoder products or establish their prices.
