You can run a 24/7 YouTube music stream from MP3 files by sending them through a software encoder on a computer that can access the folder. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream, copy its stream URL and key into the encoder, configure a looping audio playlist and a video source, then preview and start the broadcast. Before you begin, confirm you have the rights to stream both each recording and its underlying composition: owning or downloading an MP3 does not by itself grant livestreaming permission.
Before you start: channel access, music rights and a continuous-running setup
Make sure your channel can livestream
YouTube says livestreaming requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. If livestreaming has never been enabled on the channel, activation can take up to 24 hours. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before preparing a long-running broadcast. YouTube’s livestreaming help
Confirm rights to both the recording and the composition
For each track, identify who controls the sound recording and who controls the musical composition. Use music you created and control, or obtain permissions that cover YouTube livestreaming and the territories where you intend to make it available. A purchased MP3, a download, or a “royalty-free” label alone does not establish that you have those rights.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A Content ID match can interrupt or terminate a live broadcast; if you have a licence for detected music, the rights holder may need to allowlist your channel. Do not wait for an archived-video claim to discover a problem. See YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance.

YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put the responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights. They state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.” Local licensing obligations can vary by territory.
Decide what will keep the broadcast running
A computer-based encoder needs ongoing access to the MP3 folder, power, and a reliable internet connection. A desktop or mini PC can be dedicated to the task if you do not want to use your everyday computer, but dedicated hardware is optional; YouTube does not prescribe a particular computer model for this workflow. YouTube’s encoder guidance describes software encoders as one way to stream. YouTube encoder help

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- Open the live controls. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab to start an immediate event, or open Manage to schedule one. A scheduled event can provide a watch page and reminder option. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions
- Set the event details. Enter a clear title, visibility and other metadata. Make sure the title describes the music accurately and does not imply rights, artists or content you cannot substantiate.
- Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a stream to your event. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. YouTube stream-key guidance
- Wait for the incoming preview. Do not start the public broadcast until Live Control Room shows the encoder feed and you have checked its picture, sound and stream health.
Configure the MP3 playlist, video and encoder output
Build a playlist that can loop
In the encoder or media application you choose, add the files from your music folder to an audio playlist and enable repeat or loop playback. Add a video source as well: a still image you have permission to use, original artwork, or a visualizer. YouTube receives a video livestream, not an audio-only MP3 playlist.
YouTube documents how to connect an encoder, but it does not prescribe one MP3 playlist application or guarantee that a particular encoder’s loop controls will run unattended. Check the current controls in your chosen software and test a full playlist cycle before relying on it for a continuous stream. Confirm that the playlist handles track transitions, missing files, and repeat behavior as expected.

Use YouTube’s recommended output settings as a starting point
For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as video codecs, and AAC or MP3 as audio codecs. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. These are platform recommendations; they do not mean every source MP3 should be converted to an identical format. Check what your encoder actually outputs and use Live Control Room’s stream health to catch problems. YouTube’s live encoder settings
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Select it if your encoder and connection details support it. Avoid changing several output settings at once: if the preview or stream health deteriorates, revert the last change and test again.

Test, go live and monitor the stream
- Check upload capacity. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the stream bitrate. Use a stable connection and avoid saturating the upload link with other traffic; disruptions can break the stream. Encoder settings and YouTube connection guidance
- Verify audio and video in preview. Listen for silence, clipping, unexpected track order and gaps. Confirm the video source is visible and does not cover or contradict the audio.
- Check the watch page on more than one device. View it on a phone and a desktop, and check that the title and visibility are correct.
- Start the broadcast and keep monitoring. Watch Live Control Room for stream-health alerts, and periodically confirm the encoder has not stopped, the playlist is advancing, and audio remains audible. A loop can fail even if the stream connection itself is still active.
- End the event deliberately if you need to stop. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived when ended. That archive guidance is not a promise that one broadcast can run uninterrupted indefinitely or that YouTube provides a continuous-service guarantee. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance
Understand copyright and monetization separately
Having permission to stream every song addresses music rights; it does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program approval or monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to livestreams and expects original, authentic content rather than generic, repetitive or mass-produced material. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered. A continuous loop of otherwise authorized tracks can still raise a separate monetization-policy issue. No stream duration, looping tool or added visual element guarantees acceptance. | Existing computer with software encoder | A creator who already has a computer and local MP3 files | Direct control and no dedicated hardware purchase, but the computer, file access, power and internet connection must remain available. Test the selected encoder’s playlist looping. |

Common problems and fixes
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Recheck that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current key, that it is connected to the intended event, and that the computer has internet access. Reset the key in Live Control Room if it may have been exposed.
- The preview appears, but there is no sound: Check the encoder’s audio source, playlist playback, output device and mute controls. Confirm the MP3 files play locally, then verify that the encoder is sending audio to YouTube.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: Check upload stability and restore the recommended 20% bitrate headroom. Reduce competing network traffic and review YouTube’s stream-health warnings before changing encoder settings.
- The playlist stops or does not repeat: Confirm repeat is enabled in the correct playlist or media source, test beyond the end of the playlist, and check for moved, renamed or unreadable files. The software’s loop behavior is specific to its current version and setup.
- YouTube interrupts the live stream for a music match: Stop and investigate the detected material. Confirm rights for the recording and composition; where you hold a licence, ask the rights holder about allowlisting your channel. A later archive check will not prevent a live interruption.
- The stream runs, but monetization is unavailable or rejected: Review YouTube’s current monetization policy. Music permissions and monetization eligibility are separate questions, and a loop is not a promise of acceptance.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want to keep a home computer and connection running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos.
